Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

According to ISW Ukraine took as much territory in 1 week as the RF took over all of 2024.

It's words. The real test is how well they hold it. Good signs but nothing is for sure yet.

Doesn't even have to be that much territory. Good optics to liberate Russians from Putin's oppressive regime.

I get the impression that Ukraine are aware of the risks of over extending their supply line/logistics.

So far they have only been up against conscripts and the tiktok brigade. I think they could have penetrated deeper, but doing so would leave them more vulnerable. I think there was a report somewhere where they bought in heavy equipment to dig in defensive line of the territory they have gained. My guess they will try to move further as the logistics are secured by the defensive lines.

Though on the flip side this will also give Russia time to set up defensive lines themselves, though I'm not sure how effective they would be if defended by mostly conscripts.

Kursk official saying that 28 settlements were taken and frontline was 40km wide x 12km deep. He was chastised by Putin and told to shut up.

DeepState on the other hand think its double the amount of settlements taken by Ukraine.

Russian soldiers inside Russia itself thought they were safe. Instead they got steamrolled (literally).

Ukraine claim about 1000km of territory taken. For those if you keeping score, thats about 5 times more than the failed Russian offensive in Vovchansk/Kharkiv.

Seems that gas station on the border taken by Ukraine has been hit and is unusable. What a shame for Hungary and Slovakia…

Great, lets live in delusion

Only one side is deluded tovarisch - your side.

Look at Russian places after Ukranian occupation:

Notice how they've managed to avoid razing the place to the ground?

Also, another quite obvious elephant in the room for your nation:

Ukraine have easily invaded and occupied more Russian territory in one week than Russia has of Ukranian territory in one whole year at the expense of 100,000 + soldiers.

What do you think would happen if Georgia decides it would like North Ossetia back & Moldova decides to take Transistria back all while Ukraine is denazifying Kursk & Belgorod at the same time?

Russia has a huge land border that it simply does not have the man power to defend.

Ironically, the best way for Russia to secure its borders is for neighboring states to join NATO. Any NATO member cannot invade other states, NATO or non NATO. Putin knows this hence why he does not bother at all with defending current NATO borders right now.

Russia needs Ukraine in NATO to prevent Ukraine having any more designs on Russian territory. You know it comrade.

"Two weeks before the events in Kurshchyna, Oleksandr Syrsky was coming to the Pokrovsky area. Awarding the fighters, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces told the defenders to stay away, because "soon we will go on the offensive." The military of the Defense Forces reacted skeptically to these words of Syrskyi, because they did not fully understand what it was all about," — head of the public relations service of the 110th OMBr of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

"We are what? What an offensive, we're barely hanging on here, what an offensive...?
You see how cunningly they did it. They did it very intelligently and correctly - this is how you have to deal with the enemy, you have to take unexpected steps. This greatly affected the prestige of Russia, its armed forces - a lot of prisoners. This raised our fighting spirit, we became confident that there is powder in the powder bins and we will still show the Muscovites how to fight."

Barreness won't like this. He hates the truth

"If you're a retired F-16 pilot and you're looking to fight for freedom, they will hire you here," Graham told reporters after a meeting with Ukraine President Volodomyr Zelensky. "They're going to look throughout NATO nations for willing fighter pilots who retired to come help them until they can get their pilots trained. So we're going to get these jets in the air sooner rather than later."

Will Putin double down or call it a day on this?

A few days ago, Kadyrov sent his goat molesters to Kursk and promised they would do well. The second video in your post shows something entirely different and they fell short.

Age of Russian army deaths increasing. Can't believe Russia sent guys in their mid 70's to die in the war.

It's horrific. All for stupid Putin's ego and dreams of empire. Large numbers of folks around the world still admire the bloody moron.
Something happened?
No, Chief, I don't think so. The Kursk incursion seems to be ongoing, but there is a bit of official messaging saying they don't want to hold the land, what ever that means.

Now Belarus supplies ammunition and equipment directly from combat units, not warehouses, indicating the draining of Belarusian stockpiles, according to Belnovosti's sources.

Hello Poland, how's Belarus looking?
