Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

Remove this Banner Ad

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

Pretty sure this describes the UK and US support for Israel too in their Lebanon invasion, no?

Israel's invasions and occupation of Palestine and Lebanon with US weapons only exposes the hypocrisy of when they want the world to condemn and sanction Russia for doing the same thing in Ukraine.
When did Ukraine attack Russia?

A few short notes:

Ukraine seems to have pulled out of Vuhledar after holding it from attacks for 2.5 years.

It's noted that the deadline that Putin gave to the KGB-led expulsion of Ukrainian forces from Kursk oblast was October 1.

The RF start to implement a plan to recruit up to two thirds of military-able Russians who are defending themselves against criminal charges - kind of like recruiting from prisoners but opening the door before convictions are completed. (Unsure whether the charges are dismissed or still active).

A Russian airplane is detected in Alaskan airspace. When the USA scrambled jets to intervene, a Russian escort jet performs a provocative flyby. (The video is all over the media but I'm not a position to go grab them).

Moldova uncovers a Russian plot to influence the country's consideration of EU membership.

[Article on Bloomberg]

Moldovan authorities revealed a Russian operation aimed at bribing over 130,000 Moldovan citizens to influence votes and prevent the country from joining the European Union. According to police chief Viorel Cernăuțeanu, Russia transferred $15 million in September alone to spread disinformation, provoke unrest, and target state institutions. The payments were made through a bank linked to Russia's defense ministry, with instructions provided via Telegram on how to vote and spread false information about the EU. [NOEL Reports TG]

This is what MAD means.

And it works if both sides refrain from overt aggression and initiating the first step.

What you are doing is saying that if Russia takes the first step, as a consequence of its own overt aggression and it escalates, it's the Wests fault, and not Dear Leader's.

But MAD only works if it's clear that this is what will happen. If a signal is sent to Putin that he can take the first step, and nothing will happen, because the West are expected to be the adults n the room, then why wouldn't he? He has made it clear he doesn't care about a death toll.

Do you want nukes used?

You do don't you? But only Russian ones. It's why you are focussed on escalation from initiation, not initiation.

An obvious stance from someone who gets his news from sources that use terms like capatilist pigs.

Nailed it. There are a certain subset of people that say we must listen to Putin about his nuke threats. Because this time it really is real unlike the past 3-400 threats that he has made.

When it is pointed out to those people that the Russian federation has a record of making frivolous nuclear threats such posters usually respond by saying you want nuclear war don't you.

When in reality - it is the opposite. Because if everyone gave Putin what he wanted every time he made thinly veiled nuke threats that would mean other such actors would also join in on the fun. After all, making nuclear threats seems to be a legitimate form of negotiating according to a specific subset of posters here.

Anyone who supports a nuclear free world must be absolute against giving Putin anything at all for making a nuke threat. Infact, sanctions and / or any other penalties need to be ramped up on Russia in order to show such behavior is not going to be tolerated in international affairs.

This is the kind of stuff our pro-russian commentators condone.
They don't condone it. They are horrified by it. Horrified that the US is able to get away with these attrocities.

Those poor poor Russians, forced to commit such acts by US imperialism.

Our pro-russian commentators may condone this but hey, they are against name calling those that commit these war crimes because name calling erodes self-esteem, and damages the emotional well-being of these russian criminals.

Let us not forget the Ukranian soldier who was captured. He defiantly repeated the phrase Slava Ukraina.

As a result those heroic invading Russian soldiers killed him thus saving Ukraine from a soldier who was clearly a Hitler loving fascist.

I'm surprised Putin hasn't been nominated for a Nobel peace prize.

I would be happy to call them more than names if I could get my hands on them.

Russia must be dismantled for the good of humanity.

The "human safari" stuff going down in Kherson city got an article from a western paper. Incredible it took so long, though the Telegraph's podcast did mention it.

Keep a mental note of this in case anyone starts some semantic bullshit about Russia and terrorism.

"It is a realistic possibility that this incident occurred due to pilots incorrectly identifying MV Aya as their target in haste, wanting to depart the area immediately after launch for fear of being targeted by a Ukrainian surface-to-air missile," British officials said.

If a merchant ship carrying Ukrainian grain was the wrong target, what was the correct target? Ukraine as far as I am aware no longer has an armed manned surface navy. Maybe the UK is telling pokies or there is some other target we know nothing about. Assuming they are telling the truth, maybe a Ukrainian merchant acting as a naval drone tender?

Yes, I thought it was a little strange.

It is horrific. Listened to the telegraph poddy about it. They had suspected it for some time.

Reportedly a funeral home was attacked multiple times.

Russian air force shot down their own new combat drone, the S 70 over Ukraine. As you can see in the picture, this is a very large drone, designed in part, to be a loyal wingman to the Su57. Most likely they lost control if it, rather than an accidental friendly fire event.

Just saw that. These guys are animals. People defending Russia are at a level of depravity only marginally above the Russians

And the USA continues to offer air defence to Russia.
