Very AFL though - make a stand on the small stuff, whilst ignoring the bigger (ie coach, players and staff in animal cruelty syndicates together).

Irrespective of a former player's career on field, why would you want them on the Board when they were accused (and settled out of court) of defrauding a significant financial benefactor of the Club?

Ironically the Club at the time promised the Monteleone family Aber would have nothing to do with the Club in an official capacity ever again, only to go back on their word now because they are shitting themselves about the prospect of having someone in their ranks who will hold everyone to account.

When you're trying to re-establish trust and connection with the fans the last thing anyone should want is bringing in someone whose integrity and ethics led him to extremely questionable activity against people who have given their lives (both professional and personally) to the Club.

I'd be first in line to burn the place to the ground and start fresh if we were electing Tredders to the board for his fiscal acumen or legal nous.

Fortunately, the board position is to work with the football department and be the conduit between on-field and off-field. Having been our most decorated and successful AFL player, not long out the game and finger on the pulse of the way the modern game is played I couldn't think of anyone BETTER than Tredders.

That, and sack Hinkley.

Not at all. I think that would set an extremely dangerous precedent and effectively mean that the members elected positions are members elected from the Club's approved list.

But I do believe that all candidates should be vetted by an independent panel who deems them to be a "fit and proper person." In the case of Abernethy, I think such a panel would find it hard to tick that box given his questionable dealings regarding IJF.

What judgement are you referring to? Because he refused to take the vax? As more and more info comes out, his judgement was spot on.

Even if nothing comes out to validate his choice, in the end it is irrelevant. It was a personal choice he made, it wasnt as if he campaigned to have everyone reject the vaccine. A sackable offence? The irrational fervor surrounding this issue was next level.

He has the cajones to speak up and go against the irrational mob ... something desperately needed at Port.

I cancelled my membership before 2023 due to Hinkley, so I am unable to vote.
Would you mind, and I ask sincerely, that given you don’t want to vote for either and I really want to vote for Tredrea, voting as a proxy for me and casting one vote - Tredrea, from Jello.
