If you wish to engage in constructive criticism about tonight's performance. Fine, then do so. But there's been precious little of that so far.

If you wish to engage in point scoring, then get lost. We're hurting right now and we're not going to cop this rubbish from a bunch of gloating children.

well said back to the crevice you people crawled out of.

not really sure what choke means are ya?

Winning the minor premiership, then losing?

Being warm favourites, then losing?

Having the opposition on toast in the first quarter, then losing?

Having the opposition on toast in the last quarter, then losing?

Help me out, here.

Too many passengers tonite was always gonna expose us.
Doughty!
Spent some time on the bench but couldve used his body more than he did when he was on the ground.

Massie!
Will not play another game for the Crows.

Riley!
Soft as dogs ********.
Overated, if he is our next midfield God help us.

Mattner!
Carrying and injury or didnt like the wet or both

Burton!
Has undone all of his good work in the past 6 weeks. Didnt provide a target up foward and when he didi get it just blazed away at nothing.

Skipworth!
Couldnt kick the skin off a rice pudding.

Craig?
Why was Harvey loose for 3 quarters?
Why take Kenny out of the forward line when it was always gonna be a 10 goal winning margin that won the game.

but on a positive note I thought our backline was sensational.

Hart, Rutten, Hentschel & even Basset (not counting his clangers) kept us in the game. We missed McGregor going down back - amove I didnt agree with.
Henschel AND Mcgregor on Reiwoldt was overkill and robbed us of a target.

Who TF was Harveys opponent? If it was Goodwin you would think in the second quarter and the third that he would be told to stick on him - or better still take Shirley from Ball

The sun will rise tomorrow but it wont be shining :(

I don't have to you seem to know all about it :)

I don't know if we blew it yet.
When I heard Bock was out I really didn,y hold ot too much hope. To go down by a few points was probably a better result than what could have happened.
To cover Bock, we robbed our forward line of an extra option in Hentschel, to help Hentschel we robbed our midfield, (already minus the Roo.) When you look at the saints, they are a high scoring team, only kicked 10 with their classy forwards. I think NC didn,t have much choice but to drop extra numbers back, we could have been belted.
I would rather carry a close loss(under 10 points = lucky win) into the next game, knowing that the team should be back into its structure next week. Burton and Mattner should be better for the run having had time off.
Having said that, our second quarter was the big killer, The saints harrased us well. A good lesson was learned tonight, next week brings a new challenge, I am still confident!!
PS. To all out there that think the Crows have "over achieved", youre Right!! And they will keep on achieving!!

That's fair enough Dave, however ithink you should take a look at the behaviour of some of your own inhabitants - SpringChoke, Outback Jack to name two - who have thrown thiis sort of rubbish on the Port board for ages.
What you give out, you must be prepared to cop when it comes back on you.

We definitely blew it! I think the fact that we can so close is even more heartbreaking and just knowing that if we had kicked more accurately we would have won just adds more salt to the wound :(

I don't think we can make the GF now. If the Crows can finish similarly next year in the H&A season then I think they will apply what they learnt today if the QF next year and the result will be different (a very long way away I know)

I had a dream last night that Crows won by 20 points and they say dreams always turn out the opposite. :(

LOL, Nah that was cruel, with all seriousness, you guys played well tonight, and should be proud of the effort to win the Minor Premiership.

Don't worry Crows, you guys will bounce back, PF birth without the week off!

My wife who is a dud of a tipster - by her own admission - 87 for H/A season - has got 3/3 thus far! - I have zip! When she got the 1st two and I knew she tipped the saints I began to worry - and that was before I heard about Bock dropping out too!

Not sure about tomorrow though - we have both tipped the 'Roos.

We blew this game, but that doesn't necesarily mean that the finals campaign is obviously over. It just means that we have to do it the hard way, and win the premiership in 4 games like we did in 97 / 98. It is just a shame that we will now have to go through West Coast in WA to get into the GF. Sure, we beat them over there in Round 22, but a Final is a different matter, and statistics say that they don't loose too many games in Subiaco... winning 1 over there was fantastic, but beating the WCE in WA 2 times in a month could be a little too much to ask! :(

Have faith people.

We could have won with a little luck and better kicking for goal.

We have upside with return of Ricciuto and Bock - 2 v. good players and will allow better team balance

No reports, no injuries

We're still playing at home against a bottom eight club next week.

We had to have a loss sometime. Better in a qualifying than an elimination final.

Lot of water under the bridge yet. Will make the flag all the more memorable (if we're good enough. If we're not then we don't deserve it anyway)

If the Crows play the same way they did tonight against the Kangas they will lose, against Port, they will win. I dont know why they play so defensively, when they have an excellent midfield that can attack, and an OK attack.

Yeah Womens intuition is a Funny thing, my wife has had an uneasy feeling all day about this game.
However it wont be so hard to string three in a row. On the positive side we will see our team (who we didn't expect much of this year) play more games.
And if there is another showdown how good will that be. :D

First of all, does the coaching staff subscribe to the dyertribe school of Robert Harvey scepticism? Why no hard tag?

I would have at least manned him up though - especially after that first goal.

Ran around with impunity almost all night.

Top game that! What difference would RICCUITO have made to the result?

And what difference would Kosi, Maguire, Hudghton, Penny, Goddard and X.clarke have made?

You've missed the point, Roo was out because of a brain fade just before the finals, not thru injury! His leadership was greatly missed by his own actions

Fair enough.. sorry jumbo.
Good luck to your boys next week. you deserve to get over the Roos or Port.

i'm absolutely gutted. i am currently in a deep dark depression and contemplating self-harm.
guess it's the expectation. after such an excellent season, breaking records, and of course, finishing top dog at the end of the reg season, this result is such a body blow.

i missed the game as i was on an international flite. i called my mum for the result, and i knew the second she picked up the fone, that the result had gone against us.

from the official match report, and the musings of the natives here, my impression is that it was a close match in which we generally played poorly and showed little composure. i get the feeling that bock plus/minus ricciuto in the side would have won us the game. yes, one player can make such a difference (guess it's easier to say in hindsite with the close margin and all).

i guess the 6million dollar question is: did we do a port power?
after such an impressive season and past 2 months, this truly is a fall from grace, and it's eerily reminiscent of the smears.

i'll be accused of being melodramatic, i don''t care.
the fact is, we have been denied a week off. we have been denied a home prelim final (which btw, is the key to making a GF; in the past 15 seasons, what percent of prelim finals has the away team won?).
we now have to fight to even get INTO a prelim final..
if we do happen to make it into the prelim final, we'll have to face a resurgent wce, hell bent on revenge, fresh from a week off, and with dead tired opposition to fry.

yes, a golden oppurtunity wasted.
this and next season are crucial. if we don't win flags then, we won't win one for another 15 years.

In the likely event event that we lose tomorrow, I will be right behind you blokes against North Melbourne next week. I hope you kick the freeloading royal blue bastards all over Football Park - assuming they haven't forgotten how to get here that is, seeing as it's so long between visits for them - and give their arrogant, loudmouthed, feral supporters what for.

With Roo and Bock you would have won, definately will still make the prelims, think that means you will play us again at Subi.

It isn't a fall from grace...it isn't choking! The boys fought hard and played pretty good...they were done by a better team on the day! three months ago, who expected us to be in the minor premiership position? St. K are a good team- let's not take that away from them. So are we. It was a battle.
Cheers,

Devastating loss, no doubt. Missed opprtunity, no doubt.

I was proud of the boys' endeavour (which has been superb throughout this season), but on the night, the difference was the class of the Saints midfield (especially Harvey) as opposed to the indecisiveness of ours. Also, we didn't take our chances in front of the sticks. Two more scoring shots and a series of missed 'easy' goals cost us dearly. Additionally, the wildcard was James Gwilt, who in his second match looked like he'd played 200 and clearly snuck up under the radar, as did other second tier saints like Peckett and Fisher.

Our defence was superb (restricting their 4 'danger' forwards to just 4 goals between them was better than anyone could have possibly imagined) and our attack battled hard, but our midfield was spanked.

As much as it hurts me to say this, I honestly don't think that we would have lost that match with Roo in last night. Just his mere presence in-close would have made a hell of a difference.

Aside from that awful second quarter of course, the most disappointing thing for me was just the fact that we courageously tied the scores with still 12 minutes to go on the clock and then simply couldn't go on with it, despite being on our homeground in front of a rampaging home crowd. Bad errors, undisciplined play, you name it. That last 12 minutes was absolute ********ing torture.

Oh well, we live to fight at least one more day. Win, lose, or draw, I'm still proud of the lads this season. They've surprised the hell out of all of us and we need to stick with 'em through thick and thin.

Changes for next week:
In-Ricciuto, Bock, Torney (apparently played very well for South yesterday and is surely a better bench option than VB, Massie or Doughty).
Out-Van Berlo, Massie, Doughty
