List Mgmt. We Got Him! Beams Trade Discussion (Not the Hype Thread)

We've been told all week about how amateur we have been with our multiple press releases, rudderless leadership, and 'panicked' media appearances compared with the cool, calm way Hine and co have gone about it...

You see, the problem with ridiculous self-imposed deadlines and false bravado in the form of chess-thumping member statements, is that you look pretty silly if you don't walk the walk.

'I'm kind of a big deal' over at the wce forums, does the names dkmkcjejfnjern, alfy, aplfy, dk, alphabet ring any bells, anyway they even named a sc lg after me, in other words I'm a cult hero… I was banned for a year then i had to make a new account, so i changed my username from dkmkcjejfnjern to nrejnfjecjckmkd,
Well, that would certainly have simplified things for you:confused:

Deadlines and "final" offers rarely get the result they intend. They are in fact signs of a failed negotiation. We know that Collingwood had to trade Beams and when Brisbane wasn't scared off by their naive tactic, the jig was up. Not gloating, just marvelling at Collingwood's stupidity/arrogance in their whole approach to the process.

So is it more or less confirmed that the Pies' pick 30 (or later) won't be coming to us as part of the trade? Not that I think it's a deal breaker or anything, but it'd certainly be great from our perspective if that was the case. I saw it mentioned a few times over the weekend, but now that news is 'breaking' on the 5+25+Crisp scenario I haven't heard any more about it.

Not to us, possibly to Geelong for Varcoe?

Hasn't it been reported we'll get pick 48 back? Would be. Handy pick for us if we want to have a selection in the draft.

Collingwood supporters have posted quite a few times that Brisbane management displayed a "lack of professionalism" in regards to trying to broker a deal for Beams.

Yet when I asked them to elaborate, I never quite received an answer.

If you are looking for insightful criticisms of trading techniques the team boards of BF are probably not the place to go. I think this trade, if it goes off as expected, has been handled very well by both clubs. It involved some pretty sensitive issues and it's important that neither club "ballsed it up".

If you do analyse it some ambit claims were made, nothing too over the top, and the deal was done in a pretty predictable fashion well within the timeframe allowed. Plenty of these deals get dragged out to the last minute which doesn't help anyone. I know some on your board will say Collingwood are fools for using a deadline tactic yet it probably bought a solution into focus more quickly so worked for mine. Likewise some on our board wil complain Brisbane have used the circumstances to low ball us when they have come to the party with days to spare.

You were always going to end up well in front here but 5 and 25 work in the circumstances. Crisp I feel a little ambivalent about and he isn't likely to make it and maybe we are better going to the draft than using a spot on him. Still he is a big body and sounds like he has a great attitude so we will get right behind him once he is ours

Both clubs have performed well here and I doubt there will be any ill feeling at club level. It will just be seen a business.

The main criticism on your board appears to be the email sent out to members saying negotiations were off.

Yeah as I have said on our own board anyone who took too much notice of that has little understanding of negotiating.

In contrast, communication to our members:

1. we're only trading for A-graders (tick);

2. Leppa's tweet of "no kids" being traded;

3. We did say publicly we'd go to the draft with 5 & 25 if it wasn't accepted.

Second one is debatable I suppose, depending on your view of Crisp.

I'm happy to put the third one down as a gambit to make the Crisp offer stick. Can't see what else would get the deal done without risking the lot.

Overall, very happy with the result. Went fishing for a whale, got two strikes, even though 1 pretty much jumped into the boat.

And the Bundy deal was broken to members synonymously with the media/public

Geez Warwick it was soooooooo worth going back and finding a diamond in yesterdays posts - you are a 7 asterisk clique all on your own!

You're back baby! :thumbsu:

Bullshit. We've been, let's be honest, awful, for far too long.

One finals appearance in 10 years is pathetic. So 10% of those years we won more games than we lost. 10%. We finished in the bottom 4 a total of 4 times during that span.

In that time 2 teams have played in less finals games than us - GCS and GWS. One team finished in the bottom 4 more often than us. One.

Time to shake up this joint and stop pretending every year that we have an endless supply of young talent to make a tilt in 2-3 years.

We have a chance to recruit one of the best players in the league. A guy who should, under normal circumstances cost at least 2 top 10 picks. We are just lucky that extenuating circumstances means we can offer less in good faith.

We pull this off, we are getting away with cold blooded murder.

We are fast becoming irrelevant. Since our last GF, the plastic franchise down the road has diluted our sponsorship $$, media involvement, and membership numbers, the Broncos have won a NRL title, the Reds have won the Super Rugby for the first time, QLD have won 8 straight Origins, QLD cricket have won the shield and domestic OD titles multiple times, the Brisbane Heat have won the T20 comp, the Brisbane Roar (men, women, and youth teams) have dominated the A League, the Qld Firebirds have won a few titles, the Brisbane International tennis competition has started, hell, even the Bullets won a couple of trophies.

We are in massive debt, we are struggling to attract major sponsors (remember the days of Cadbury-Schweppes and Vodafone?), we are being threatened by the Suns, we attract less people to our games than the Sunday service at St Stephens, we have less games than agreed upon in the merger in Melbourne every year, we get no media coverage, we have been playing with a ridiculous cartoon character on our pyjamas..

All of a sudden there is a swagger back at the Gabba. Swann has given it back to the fat heads down south, Lethal's back, we've pumped money into our welfare and development systems, our academy is producing quality players, we've got an excellent coach with a proven ability to develop young players and communicate effectively, we've killed the draft lately, we have the old Lion back, we're trying to re-engage with the Victorian supporter base which has been neglected for far too long, we recognise the importance of recruiting the right people for the job as shown by the pitch to Lambert, we are signing the vast majority of our young guns to long-term deals, we are a favourable destination for quality players again, we are redeveloping our criminally outdated facilities.

We need A grade talent.

This is it. We're back baby.

Yes but I am referring to the posts which are critical of the club for emailing the members with this info then going back on their word. I actually don't understand why they did that either, considering it was the same (?) content as the press release you also put out?

Whoever was responsible for publishing it doesn't have much of a clue on the subject either.
