List Mgmt. Welcome Bo Allan (Pick 16, 2024 National Draft)

I have high hopes for Bo, looks to have all the tools.

I also still think Rueben has shown a lot and still has massive upside- surprised how many on here think he's a bust.

Nobody thinks he is a bust. Who said that?

He's just not a midfielder, which is what we were promised after Chesser also wasn't a mid, and it's what we desperately need.

Chesser seems to not enjoy physical contact, Allan seems to have no issue with that.
I can't tell if Chesser will ever have what it takes to be a mid unless he's willing to get his hands dirty. I guess a player's physique can sometimes be deceiving.

FWIW I have more faith in Allan as a mid than I have for Chesser, Ginbey or even Duggan before them.

An A grade one though? Eeeergh, not so sure about that unless his production and skills improve immensely. Contest wise and athletic ability he seems sorted ✅

Willem Drew seems like the sorts of areas we should be hoping for. Tough as nails, defensively minded, can still win his own ball, and allows the prime movers to flourish.

Pretty obvious mistake we made with Ginbey was throwing him into the middle way to early and without any real support.

Not everyone is built like Harley and some prospects need extra care in order to build them up and instill confidence in them.

Play Bo across half-back and let him and Ginbey build in confidence for a year or 2.

Allan, Ginbey, Hough and Baker is a great combination of pace, lockdown and genuine drive out of defence.

For what it's worth, I always thought Yeo would end up being an inconsistent low possession midfielder. The move into defence really helped him and therefore I think in 2 years time Bo and Ginbey will have a similar development.
I feel like yeo benefitted immeasurably from Sam Mitchell’s tutelage.

Ginbey and Yeo stat comparison at the same age:

Pretty favourable in most aspects. Only real standout in Yeo's favour is that he was clearly more of a marking player which isn't surprising.

Neither had/has the midfield nous of a Shuey who could win out in there by being mentally a step ahead of his opponents. Yeo wasn't and still isn't IMO a smart player like that, needed to fully morph into his bulldozer self and gain AFL level consistency/awareness as a HBF to match his existing competitiveness and athletic traits. We know Ginbey will work his butt off just as much as Yeo has so the worries of him never transitioning to midfield are very premature I think.

Only misstep in Yeo's career is his injuries - was the singular wrecking ball in there and once he did transition to a central mid role he actually probably didn't rest on the HBF as much as many of us would have liked.

In drafting a 'second Ginbey' we should get the flexibility to expose them both a little more regularly to the midfield on rotation (building their nous earlier) whilst being able to preserve them a bit more late career (hopefully stay healthier than Yeo). We also have two absolute competitors who (if what we hear about Bo is true) will both push themselves and others at training which is an edge we've been sorely missing.

Still need that evasive, high-posession clever mid type and will need to address that soon. However think concerns about him being too similar to Ginbey shouldn't be concerns at all - happy with the acquisition.

Amazed people think this guy is vanilla given his ability to simply peel away from opponents at speed.

Worst case he's a good defender or defensively minded midfielder. Best case he becomes a midfielder who runs around opponents.

On Pixel 9 using BigFooty.com mobile app

His athletic testing is far more cookies and cream than vanilla

I'd take another defender of Shep's quality in a heartbeat

Was a somewhat unfavourable pick at the time with fans - turned out one of my favourite Eagles ever. So reliable. I think Houghy has a similar skill set in a lot of ways

Yeo prob didn’t play mid until his 4th-5th year though. Not that it means anything about Ginbey

I rate Drew, but if he had Allan’s athletic profile he’d be an absolute machine

Can’t say I’m impressed from what I’ve seen. His kicking and handballing are both loopy and slow so we have to hope his speed and size give him enough time to get the ball away to someone with better skills such as Harley. If I was playing him in the middle I’d just be telling him to get first hands on the footy and get it out to Yeo or Harley as much as possible.

Have to hope he shows something really good to make up for swapping pick 3 for a bunch of old guys and a possible half back/mid prospect, but then who loves half back flankers with possible mid potential more than WCE? Nobody. 😂

The Eagles are very quick in getting a guernsey with number 16 and Allan on for Bo Allan. Very well prepared?!
Edit: it so happens WCE number 16 is vacant too. Good fit for pick 16.

Not sure if it's just me, but we've got yet another adonis, after thicc boi Ginbey last year. And Zac Langdon of course.

Allan looks taller and broader than all the baby-faced draftee kent's around him. Wonder if he's grown more than his 191cm.

Can't understate what him playing half a season of WAFL footy against men, including finals and winning a flag means as an AFL apprenticeship.

You come on a 'Welcome Bo Allan' thread, bag the guy, and then, based on incorrect facts, make a sweeping and negative conclusion. Lift your game. Please.

Ah yes, silky skilled Elliot Yeo.
