Regarding Chesser, what is his issue at the moment? Training reports say he isn't joining in with match simulation. Obviously rehab for something but I can't remember him being injured.

In all seriousness, the club will start looking at him this year or next. A few years in the system, and he hasnt looked anywhere near it, somewhat our own doing...

Needs a position and consistent game time HBF/Wing dabbling in the middle.

I wish him the best of luck but I am leaning to he isn't going to make it.

He’s definitely developing slower than hoped, but that could be our own fault.

I’d like to see something from left field and try him on a HFF with bursts on all albeit not CBAs. There’s a bit of Bailey Smith, speed and power type athlete who lacks that polished finish.

His speed and defensive game could really help us create turnovers in the F50 similar to a Cam Rayner type

Chesser is 21 years old and played 32 games .

People need to temper expectations.

Shane Edwards who chesser reminds me of did **** all in his first 3 seasons/50 games .

He was then solid without being fantasic until Richmond went on their run of premierships . So up until 10 seasons after he was drafted .

His 4 - 5 year stretch later in his career he was fantastic and a massive asset for them duing that period of dominance.

I get what you are saying, and most generally hope he comes along but the truth is, this is a cut throat business and I believe the average career is five years. Chesser is in year 4, sooner or later he needs to own his spot and he hasn't shown much, well not yet anyway...

Put it this way, in an unlikely scenario we bring in Warner, keep our first (Sharp) and buy back into r1 and nab both Curtin and Rodriguez + NGA picks with Banfield, Walley and Evans that is additional six players putting more pressure on him.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. Chesser has all of the tools to be a very, very good player and he really does give his heart and soul to everything.

The issue is and hopefully the more manic style helps him but watching him play he gut runs back and forward but almost all the time he's just not quite in the right spot at the right time to provide the link in the chain. He's just that touch off being able to read the play in comparison to other AFL level players. If he improves this he could be a roleplaying mid. If he doesn't he could potentially be a pretty good HB.

The issue is we have a glut of promising HB's with mid potential and most of those are looking day and day / month and month / year on year as having more defensive than mid potential.

Even moving Duggan to the midfield (which i'm probably one of the few that agrees that it's a good idea) doesn't really open a spot for him with the run and carry of Baker most likely going down back as well as Maric. Cole whilst playing in defence is also already slated to move a touch further up the ground but again that doesn't really help him. If he overtakes Cole as a mid sized defender who can lockdock, run, carry and kick then i'll be stoked.

He's not there yet though and imo i'd be playing him in the WAFL with a set role in midfield or defence. You're not going to get a star and everyone will likely say oh well that's a bust. But he still has the potential to be a good role player in a premiership squad. If he's the 22nd player picked in a premiership winning side i'm not sure anyone would give a **** where he was drafted and would call it a success.

Stoked to see therapy is going well for you, glad you can finally admit the above. Bit late post retirement and all but you finally got there, well done!

I agree on Chesser's potential and I am hoping the change in head coach and change in game style will help him.

Do you have any insight into whether Mini will be utilising the 'defensive winger' position as much as Simmo did?

I am guessing that Mini's game plan will rely on that to a lesser extent.
