Yeah he ended up jumping off something full on to snap something and get it over with basically
not sure. His old man mentioned it a few weeks back but can’t remember if Elijah was one of them
From memory that was just myself and Robert Harvey. Plantar Fasciitis.
(Sure Harvey's was deliberate and I took a misstep but it sure as **** hurt, fixed the issue in just over a week)

The promise of talent can only get you so far, if your body can't hold up, the AFL ain't your game sorry.
We have constantly been told for the past two years just how talented he is, but in effect that means nothing as he has nothing really to show for it (14 games out of a possible 46 so far).
For a 1st round draft pick (in a time when were have desperately lacked high end 1st rounders), it's a pretty poor outcome for both Hewitt and the club (no blame on Hewitt, maybe blame on the recruitment team for not doing due diligence). Especially as high end mid field picks tend to have a much better time assimilating into the seniors and getting regular games from year 1.
If he can't get out on the park regularly next year, I would be humble and call the pick a loss and moving him on. Harsh, but that's the reality of the modern AFL.
I do wish him all the best and hope he can sold run into next season

He played 14 games in his first season. Debuted round 2, played 3 games, two as sub, before an ankle injury sidelined him for 4-5 weeks in the WAFL. Came back into the team, was concussed by De Goey, returned two weeks later.
From that point on he played every game, kicked some memorable goals and won a rising star nomination.
His second season was ruined due to a foot injury that he is hopefully on top of now - with Finn Callaghan a recent success story of a player overcoming the same injury.
Nothing to be concerned about yet, I don't think.

I think with WCE medico's and some unfortunate first round pick duds recently, people are more hopeful on Hewett rather than optimistic. Even more so when he's such an exciting player and fan favourite.
We need every top pick staying healthy and developing. Can't afford to have them be cooked with injury.

Well yeah, it's almost an identical situation isn't it?
Doesn't play at all first year, limited games second year, and then finally gets his body right in the 3rd year and plays every game (unknown for Hewitt).
These are all hypotheticals mind you, but if Shueys body doesn't hold up in that 3rd year, and he say only plays a couple of games (let's say he has 25 games to his name after his 3rd season), than yeah, as a priority pick 20, the pick in my opinion would have be a failure. Same as Hewitts may be.
But we can't compare the two just yet.
I'm not saying the Hewitt pick is a failure yet. I'm saying in our current situation and the real need for high quality high end draft picks, if Hewitt has a 3rd year like this one, or only manages a handful of games, than yes I will call it a failure. We can't be wasting 1st round picks on lads who can only manage 1/4 of the games in a season.
Let's not forget, we had pick 2, and traded it for basically Ginby+ Hewitt. That doesn't help the situation, if he doesn't come good, we basically traded pick 2 for Ginby (who is looking ok, but seems to be more suited to the West Coast special half back role, not the mids we require, and definitely not a pick 2).
Anyway all hypotheticals and what ifs at the moment, I'll reserve my opinion untill after next year, and hope Hewitt tracks in the same path as Sheuy.

I don't really think you can call a bloke a failure if he misses a reasonable amount of footy in his first 3 years.
Played what, 14 games in his first year? This year a write-off but doing everything he can to get back.
If it were a Damien Cavka situation then you'd have a point.
Different injury, which others in the AFL have fully recovered from.
Not worried at all, tbh.

I think you can if it was a known issue before you picked him.
I love hewett and hope he comes good, but all the red flags were there before we picked him, and it's getting concerning now.
It wasn't an issue before we picked him.
AFL clubs can't do their own medicals and he hid it.
There were no red flags at the time and it's not concerning at all, as the other players with the same issue have all returned to footy with no issues.

Concerning now? If he misses another preseason, sure.
There's no real point being concerned now at a time when the players are away from the club during the offseason.
Pretty sure the club was kept in the dark about his foot injury pre draft.
The issue was known by Hewett but not disclosed to the club.
Also recall reading the AFL knew but privacy laws / policy restricted the sharing of that information.
So to say no fault on Hewett and its all the clubs fault. Not 100% sure he was straight out honest with any club pre draft.
It is what it is. Hopefully he can sort it out.
My Mrs played u18 netball for Australia - she was playing casual mixed netball and some great galoot landed on her foot giving her a lizfranc injury - that was over 15 years ago and no one has been able to fix it here despite seeing a heap of experts.
