Strong chance he extends once (still no rush) and then if by the end of that we aren’t looking to contend soon he might consider going.

I really don’t think he’s gone after 3, and staying on after an initial extension will hinge on if the side is going places (which I think it also will be)

Warner won't excite the crowds like Harley does. Match attendances went up by about 4,000 per game due to the Harley factor in what was a crap year.
Let Warner go to the Dockers and pay Harley a really good salary as well as what they would have paid to Warner.
The club should use its financial muscle to build a really good competitive team and he won't want to leave.
I'm sure there are players at the eagles that wouldn't get paid what they are getting at one of the top teams.
Warner is one of the best attacking midfielders in the comp. What do you mean he won't excite the crowds?

I agree, but with Reid and Hewett already in there doing similar things, perhaps there are some slightly diminishing returns?

Hewetts barely played a game in anger. He could be anything. He could be a permainjured HFF that can't build a tank because of his foot issues.

The Chad has runs on the board. Consistently high performing, played in big games, played well in them too. He would be very fun to watch waxing lyrical with HR9.

Im not writing him off, im working under the assumption that he has a normal career as of this year

You can’t have three strike mids in one midfield. Look at Yeo, Kelly and Harley this year. When we’re on it looks great, but most of the time it lacks defensive accountability

All of them have capacity to be extremely damaging resting forwards. You would rotate them with the other guys and play to a system.

And how did The Chad that big game player perform in the Grand Final ?

Not really fair to single him out when his entire team didn’t rock up.

It’s not his fault his ex coach pissed the bed as soon as he saw the MCG.

Yes, thats my thoughts too.
Our midfield this year was awful for one reason, a lack of accountability.

Sydney have worked with Warner and Heeney as the main 2 alongside Rowbottom, and they got exposed be Brisbane. Both Heeney and Warner are "strike mids", or attacking mids.
Need a balance, Graham brings that to the eagles in 2025, but IF Hewett is healthy and gets a good run at it in 2025 then we dont need Warner, he would only unbalance our midfield. Cant really say no to quality though, I'm not saying we don't want or need him.

If we use Graham and Duggan as the defensive mids, then using Dylan Alexanders terminology as you have done for the "striker mids" we lack an "engine" mid now, but arguably we dont NEED one, as is the case with Sydney this year

For what it's worth, in the 2024 Grand Final, the following happened:

That's very even. Contrary to the narrative that now appears to have taken hold, the Swans' midfield were not beaten up physically by their Lions counterparts.

Yet, obviously, this still was the outcome:

What happened was Sydney's pinpoint offensive gameplan imploded against the pressure from Brisbane, without a Plan B in sight. All the while Swans players at both ends of the ground were completely beaten and allowed their opponents to present as spares into the midfield, giving the Lions complete domination of the outside game, particularly from turnover.

Ch.Warner in what has been regarded as a very average performance from him still gained over 650 metres in this year's Grand Final, more than anyone else on ground.

He's a very good player, and without question would make West Coast a much stronger team if he were to join them.

Unless our offer is crazy better than Freo's he'd be heading there if he decides to leave imo.

I just can't shake the feeling that Geelong Freo are going to steal Champion Warner out from under our noses.
