time to fold the club
None of the blokes missing from training are in that pic(Waterman, Oz, Sheed, Barnett, Reid).

Only conclusion to make is that they've been released from their contracts and are joining other clubs via SSP.

Time to pack it in :(

Dusty maybe? 🤔
Dusty went forward more, big jump in goals and goal assists, drop off in clearances.

Interesting quote in this article

They expect to see him “do that” in Eagles colours for at least the next two years after the AFL and the AFL Players’ Association bowed to pressure and made first-round draft picks from 2023 onwards sign standard three-year deals.

That decision worked against Reid, as his suspension means he not only lost the Rising Star bonus, but he is yet to become eligible to sign an Additional Services Agreement in his third season (and with it the chance to earn the money his marketing power demands) because he didn’t finish top five in that award.

The rule also means the youngster potentially has to endure an extra season of questions relating to whether he is staying beyond the third year, rather than extending or not midway through his second, as he may have under the old system.”

So he can’t actually re-sign yet unless he finished top 5 in the rising star? Doesn’t sound right

No, just certain parts of his third year rookie contract can't be restructured. However he still won the AFLCA best first year player award from memory so I would be shocked if the AFL refused a third year contract rewrite, particularly if we get the AFLPA onside.

Dangerfield won't be approving that as will impact on Geelong's pursuit.....

In all seriousness if he can't get a re-write then that whole system is broken. He should be getting a million a year in his third year (assuming this year is much like his first / improvement)

Yeah but who's the head of the AFLPA and who does he play for?...

IMO we will ask for dispensation to adjust his 3rd year due to special circumstances and marketing ability.

Which is 100% valid.

If the AFL don't allow it expect the club to go legal as a breach of fair trade. The AFL cant shaft players not getting a justified 3rd year pay increase just because they were drafted in the 1st round.

And that is why IMO the club would threaten legal action if something wasn't allowed.

It's a rock solid argument. No player has had the marketing ability of Harley from day 1. Never mind year 3.

Good measured article there. Certainly a polite way of saying what we’ve seen (that he has come back out of shape). Understandable on his part and no doubt part of his learning and maturing. Hopefully the support network can speed that process up.

This is the clause relating to what can trigger an additional services agreement for a draftee in his 3rd year

IMG_5884.jpeg

There’s not much wriggle room for us

However, the below clause would also apply

IMG_5885.jpeg

If that doesn’t apply to Harley, it won’t apply to anyone. Ever

How does he not qualify for clause e?

He was still nominated for the Rising Star and has already played 20 senior games?

Does being ineligible to win the Rising Star revoke his nomination?

He qualifies for (e) but my understanding is that there’s levels a contract can be increased by based on which, and how many, of the clauses he meets.

I could be wrong on that though

Interesting. Top 5 BnF finish should be within his wheelhouse you would think.

If a problem arises with fair pay or pay increase for Harley and WCE help him legally or otherwise to earn what he deserves, and succeed; then that may increase his loyalty to the club, and reasons to stay?

I mean I tend to agree he won't finish his career here, but that doesn't necessarily mean taking him was a mistake. Depends on what we've already achieved if he goes and what we could get in a trade.

Keep rolling with the he's chris judd nonsense when he hasn't even signed an extension to his initial 3 years.

He's either leaving at the end of 3 years or he's an Eagles for life. He's not beating around the bush and staying around for an extra year or 2 to repay favour.

ROFL
There's a high probability he'll sign an extension that takes him out to free agency, when he'll be able to more fully control his destiny and max out his income. That may mean staying, or it may mean going.

That's what any smart footballer should do.
