Well firstly this 60-70- games thing is a modern thing that didn't exist 30 years ago. I don't know who came up with it but it certainly has hooked the public into believing it. Of course young players need some time, some seem to need a hell of a lot more than others.
I just don't think Jack is a very good footballer, and certainly don't see the upside some of you do.
it is not about a finished product, it's about contributing. We are not in a development time of the year. If you can't find the ball then be a tackle beast, no skill required for that. If you want to get the ball then get to the right spots and give yourself a chance. Jack does neither.
Jack may end up the player many of you think he will, I hope he does. But right now we need experienced seasoned players and for me Ah Chee should of been in this role for the last 2 months.
But as we have gone with Jack and also Cameron then they can only be judged on what they do right now. This is the business end of the season and excuses hold no weight this time of the year.
Anyway the MC will do what they do and we will see where we go.

Well with 20 goals 14 behinds and 12 goal assists he has managed to be in the right spot at least 46 times.

If you can't see the potential upside of Petruccelle then I seriously question your ability to judge talent.

We will see what the MC does they might well go with the mature bodies and I have no problem with that but if they stick with some of the younger guys I would respect their faith in them.

I'm happy to back in my judgement, been around this game for a long time. If you feel Jack has been a solid contributor this year then that's great, I think he looks totally lost on a footy ground. We will have to agree to disagree.

Petrol is a keeper for sure.

Not only his speed that is a great asset.

He is quite good in the clinches, very able to crash through and get the ball to where it needs to go.

This is the best footage I could find, and it actually is just after his great act....0:42 he is surrounded by 3-4 melbourne players, shoves one to the side, gets the ball to Gaff which enables a clearance.

2:42. Ground ball get/contested posession, handball through/over traffic to a player in space who pumps into the F50.

Definitely a lot to work on. But 20 goals in his second year is a terrific return.

Reminds me of tim houlihan on speed.

His speed is his one trump card ATM. Its enabled him to get into scoring opportunites however he needs to develop his skills, composure with the ball (i.e hit a targer with his disposal) and ability to steady and change direction to corall/tackle as he gets side stepped way too easy.
Another who would have benefitted with another year of S. Mitchell

We love to shit on the kids 'round these parts. There's an argument Petch has shown enough to keep Venables out of the side if Ven was available. He's averaging more disposals and scoring prowess, with less tackles and contested possessions.

He's had equal goals to Lincoln McCarthy and Bayley Fritsch who the media have been fapping over, and a goal better than Oraaazziooooo.

Petch has flaws in his game. A slight, raw outsider taken at pick 38 with under 25 games played has flaws in his game. Well knock me over with a feather. He's served this club better than Tom Lamb. Have some patience, whether he plays finals or not.

I love the kid - huge fan of cameron too

Just think they should get 3 games then sent to the wafl to work on aspects of their games that need improvement.

We have the luxury of doing that as we have such depth in the forwards

Why not keep them hungry

With Cripps, Rioli, Venables all missing chunks of the year guys like Petch and Cameron probably got games they otherwise wouldn't have. That's not an ideal position to be in but that we're pumping games into these kids now will really pay off as JKs influence wanes a bit.

Post Lecra and a JK who is close to the end we have done well getting games into our young forward players. Cripp is not getting any younger either.

So far:

Waterman: 11 games and 27 in total.
Rioli: 13 & 37 in total
Ryan: 22 & 35 in total.
Pet: 19 games and 22 in total
Cameron: 7 games in total.
O Allen: 21 games and 23 in total
Brander: 1 and 2 in total

That is a pretty good forward line where Darling and Cripps are the leaders and a great core ground of young forwards tall and small.

While you make some good points it needs to be acknowledged that 30 years ago ( your reference point ) most players didn’t come from a Colts / Under 18 team.
Most came to the VFL from other leagues as 21 - 24 year olds that had several seasons at WAFL / SANFL / Country Leagues.
I know from my playing era the likes of Kenny Hunter, Ross Glending , Robbie Wiley, Ross Ditchburn, Wayne Blackwell, Graham Moss , Steve Richardson, Phil Kelly , Garry Buckenarra ,Peter Featherby , Tony Buhagia , Warren Ralph, Peter Spencer , Michale Mitchell, Peter Boustowe , the Krakour Brothers , Michael Christian, Brian Peake ...... and I could go on but you get my point.

All had played 80 -100 games before they graced the big league.

Case in point Kenny Hunter played 99 games for Claremont and played State Football before he ever played for Carlton.

So it’s hardly comparing apples with apples when you compare Petch with the players on that list who did a much longer apprenticeship.

Yes I agree with all of that and that’s why he should not be playing, it’s a pet hate of mine in the AFL system that blokes get a game before proving themselves as the current AFL system allows.
Go and become a superstar in the second tier and rack up numbers over a year or two the senior side simply cannot ignore.
Unfortunately or fortunately the AFL has become a colts competition when it should be a best of the best comp.
With 18 clubs though there is not enough talent so I guess there is little choice.
I am probably a bit old school so I will continue to not offer excuses for any player that graces the top level of any sport.

18 teams has definitely diluted the talent pool but as long as the balance sheet keeps growing each yeah who cares right?. Old school form in the 2's is a thing of the past sadly.

30, 49, 52. Not a lot to play with in that regard. We are starting to look pretty old and need some fresh faces through the team next year if we are to improve. Our depth outside of our fully fit 22 is quite poor and there are several players who are all downhill from here and on the wrong side of 30. Need to decide soon in what capacity is petch a solution to this problem? Trade or play?

To be fair, it was mostly the young guys who are doing it for us now anyway... Ryan, Duggan, Waterman and OA were huge tonight.

Losing NN will hurt in a couple of years. Kennedy is less important now.

We really need Cameron and Petch to hit some more consistent form next year. They’re 2 highly talented players that didn’t shoot a shot all year.

I agree with the rest, but I mean he had 7 scoring shots tonight. Still pretty important to the side, with a nice long break he can get up again for 2021.

Surely it will be his last...?

Yeah, nah. Petch is fast becoming Tom Swift v2.0. He has been given ample opportunities to turn into a footballer and he just cant do it. He's not a natural footballer, and he hasnt shown anything to suggest that he can become one. He has one trick in his arsenal (run fast in a straight line) and with the rolling maul being reintroduced into the game he cant use it. Someone said he got a new 3 year deal - thats a massive mistake by the club.

I hope he decides to become a doctor or something and make the decision for us.
