Bot saying him and Yeo are equal in talent and Yeo was much more of a bonified star at the same age but Yeo really didn’t become that gun mid till at 25 age bracket. What I’m trying to say is that players can still develop and show improvement even in their mid 20’s.

Polarising player is Petch. Great to see him re-signed. And to think some were calling for him to be de-listed.

Prior to his recent shift into the midfield his career had stalled to a degree which is why his future was being questioned

He’d always shown the potential but struggled for consistency. Fortunately he’s starting to find it

Bot?

He was cruelled by injuries, hamstrings mostly IIRC. That hampered his progress. And he was regarded as a project player when recruited.

Admit to being one that thought AFL footy wasn’t for him

But he’s shown a willingness to stick his head over the ball and do some grunt work

Not sure he’ll be a Yeo - but it we can get a solid b grader out of him - than that’s still a win

Him not sustaining any hamstring injuries this year is a massive win for both him and the club's medical staff.

After tearing his hamstring off the bone in 2020 and missing most of the year, he had (by my count):
3 minor hamstring injuries in 2021
3 minor hamstring injuries in 2022

It was looking really dicey and personally after last season I was concerned we were going to lose another talent due to injury.

I don't know what he did over the off-season but it's clearly worked. Has played 16 of the last 18 possible games, only missing the two due to a corkie and illness.

It's pretty obvious what a consistent run of games has been able to do for him, and it's great that he's finally finding his feet as an AFL player and starting to really have an impact on games. May it continue

That game a couple of years ago or maybe early last year? Against St Kilda when he kicked 4 goals i thaught that was his breakout game, next week was out with a hammy. So glad he is playing some good footy now. Has always shown talent, just went missing too often. If he can keep up this improvement he could be a star. That would be a huge bonus for our rebuild.

Generally the cycle with Petch is he'll string a month together of decent football, which builds and gets better....

Aaaand then he'll get an injury and wipe out any/all that momentum.

Round 1 2024 we'll know exactly what his future looks like at West Coast with where he lines up. Playing arguably career best footy in the mid.

Career high disposals, contested posessions, tackles, clearances, inside 50's and rebound 50's. Also kicked 10 goals in 2023.

Its hard to be consistent as a small forward, a lot easier to be consistent better if you're up and around the ball more.

I also like how he's able to use his pace to shepherd. A few times I've seen someone closing in on our player with the ball to tackle and Petch has put on the jets to get to our player and lay a shepherd / block, where others would have NO chance of doing so.

Hopefully he has a Brad Sheppard like revival in a new role. Didn't think it'd be midfield but here we are. Based on evidence from this season it's clear he should be in there ahead of Sheed. Offers so much more versatility.
This. Clearly gives the midfield more drive unlike floppy flatfooted Sheed. Needs to improve skills or get used to the heat of the engine-room. Hopefully goes from strength to strength. May have some competition in there soon. Some good rising mids out and probably more mids coming.

Was always going to take a long time until we knew if he was going to be serviceable or not. Injuries will be the determining factor.

Still can’t ever see him being a great primary midfielder at AFL level so will be up to the coaches to work out how best to utilise him. He couldn’t be any worse on the outside than someone like Lachie Hunter who could end up being a multiple premiership player

Versatility, energy, intent, pressure etc.

Yep - Sheed would go much better at HFF anyway. Can use his gut running to find space and is a good kick i50. Can also kick a long range goal.

That's a slippery slope. The Eagles HFF of death could ruin his career. I would've given him Gaff's wing but Gaff has found his mojo again.

We all know where Sheed will be starting come round 1 2024 though.
