or we could have had a crack at making it work, at the very least trading him for a decent return…except we’re so conditioned by poor recent trading and list management that we have convinced ourselves that we had no other option but to split

I am happy he has come on board and have wanted him to come over for a while now so glad it has happened.
Not going into what it cost as that is for another thread.
I really hope he surprises those who have undersold him as he is a hard nut who runs and competes all day. Whether we are up by 50 or down by 50 he will give his all which will make those around him do the same.
Great attitude and work ethic which our young guys need to be surrounded by.
I can see him being BOG in his first Derby as well

Not saying we had no option, but especially with GWS also jumping and taking the bloke that was also not a flight risk we have to accept that draft was pretty compromised with flight risks. Back yourself in to make it work and at worst get a haul of picks when they leave is also fine, but you can at least see the logic of a split for two kids when our cupboard was as bare as it was.
Our list is a lot younger now so I’m in team take the pick, but to trade down from 3 and pick up two kids in an even draft would also have been an acceptable option.
Sliding as far back as 12 and only getting one kid in the door is diabolical.

Great little player, perfect for a rebuild and a shame we lost him.
Back pocket who gives his all and can do some amazing game-changing things when swung forward or into the midfield.
The only knock is he can't play permanently as a forward/mid as he lacks size mostly and a little bit of that high-class skill.

Now we have Duggan snd Baker to turn the ball over with errant kicks and have the rebound end up in scores.
But that are both leaders so that should make up for it.

Every time i watch him play i will be reminded of this day.
Hopefully to gloat over the unnecessary melts.
Bacause I guarantee that he will be compared to Pick 3/ 14 for the rest of his career, and every time he f*cks up a play he will be reminded of it long and loud.

When they slapped together this absolute turd sandwich of a deal, Don Pyke and Co were no doubt assuming any supporter backlash would be brief given the natural tendency of fans to fall in line and back new players. In other words they are banking on that reflexive support for anyone who puts on a west coast guernsey to make the supporter base wear this and protect their jobs.
So yeah, nah.
I am less thinking 'welcome Liam Baker' and more thinking 'you're welcome to **** right off Liam Baker, noone except your cozy little circlejerk of arseh*le richmond mates want you at the club, for the vast majority of the supporter base, the news you had been recruited was the single darkest day in the club's history. We are devastated you are here. We don't want you, you aren't welcome. Not at this price.
So yeah, nah.
