Hurn was an excellent kick, Jetta one of the best field kicks for vision, penetration and placement of the modern era.

Yeo, Ginbey et al are average kicks for AFL level players when the direction of the game is headed towards needing multiple top tier kicks, particularly those with run and carry from defence to outside midfield. If you can get overhead marking, leading to space and run and carry out of these sorts of players then you have an elite platform to move the ball from defence to inside 50 as quickly as possible.

That's why Finn O'Sullivan will go number 1 if he can get his numbers up in regards to getting the ball.

We need a total of 6 very good to elite kicks from defence to forward 50 in the next generation side. I would suggest we currently have 1 in Maric with the development of Burgiel, Hewett and Reid determining if that number is higher.

Like I said in a earlier post Ginbey kicking action is fine, his problem is like Clayton Oliver's in his early years
He needs to learn to take that half a second longer to compose himself that will come with more time in the middle
and another preseason
He can be a elite kick and showed this as a junior

Saw this on Twitter and got me thinking

Ginbey isn’t as tall as Blicavs so wouldn’t be able to ruck but that aside he’d have a similar aerobic capacity. We could do worse than to model Ginbey’s game on how Blicavs plays

Don’t forget that Blicavs wasn’t a natural footballer when he joined the AFL from an athletics background and had to learn the game at AFL level

No reason why Ginbey couldn’t follow a similar path using his own strength and running capacity

Like for like he’s comparing well to players jn his draft year.

Other than Ashcroft, who was the stand out mid in his draft year Ginbey stats are comparable to other players in his draft- Wardlaw, Philipou, Mackenzie, Humphrey are all in the same situation. Showing glimpses but not tearing games apart.

I think supporters often see young players show promise in their first year and then expectations rise beyond what is reasonable in their 2nd year.

Thought Ginbey was really impressive against the Bombers. He’s very good at winning 1v1 contests and increasingly showing what a good kick and decision-maker he can be. We still seem to be figuring out what his best role is but I quite liked him rotating between the backline and mids this week

It would have been nice for him to settle into half back for a couple of years before transitioning into the midfield, but with the injuries you guys have had he’s has had to play roles that he wasn’t quite prepared for which has probably hindered his AFL development a little bit.

That was definitely the plan after speaking to a couple of coaches when he was drafted.

While not blowing it up with possessions, you can certainly see the progression from last year to this year.

Ginbey and all the WCE kids are starting to perform a lot better at home games. I've always seen this as an essential step in a young players development. It's hard to back up week after week and he will likely need 2 more preseasons to get some good consistency and experience for away games.

Was also quite honest about his season last year, talked about how he was often just hanging off the oppo's best mid, waiting for them to get the ball and then tackling them which was why his tackle numbers were so high. Definitely seems like he's keen to be second to the ball less this year and wants to win more of his own footy.

Sounds like he sets quite high expectations on himself but also has a real belief in his ability to improve. Excited to see what he can develop into

I have been impressed with all recent interviews including our assistant coaches. There is a real sense that everyone is informed and on the same page. No general motherhood statements as we may have go in past years.

Id argue defensive work should come second to getting the ball, they cant score or attack if they dont control the ball
