I think his only bet is a role off half back , unfortunately we have a glut of half backers so it would be hard for him to break in to the defence, i just that think half forward role you have to work a lot with sometimes not much reward he doesn’t seem to be much of accumulator of the ball and is a type player that will go missing here and there. He’s a decent kick and once he gets that knee fixed I could see him gliding off half back sort of in a Jetta/Sheppard sort of role. I can’t see him succeeding in midfield or forward line.
He left carlton cause he was played out of position at half back and he was horrible there.

Samo is a jet.

Once he gets a match where his legs aren't half caved in during play and he can run and turn freely, we shall see the forgotten diamond the club now has in its possession.

At Carlton, Teague never rated him in his best position and instead tried to turn him into a version of Saad or Jetta. Petrevski-Seton lacks both the pace and penetration of disposal to adequately fulfill such an undertaking. Besides, his potential to hurt the opposition is far, far higher when used in his natural position.

Samo is best around congestion, a traffic specialist, that can change lanes whilst on the move. He is not a stoppage bull like P.Cripps or Petracca - he is the matador that weaves around and feeds off of them, turning their brute strength into art.

West Coast have a lot of players who are very good at getting first hands on the ball at stoppages, but are then poor when it comes to getting the ball out. Petrevski-Seton has an intuitive awareness of identifying outlet lanes and hitting them with disposal that is elite. Start him off the defensive side of stoppages and have him run-through, feeding off Yeo, Kelly, Shuey etc and turning those failed clearance situations into dangerous attacking forays.

When deployed in such a way he has the talent to be one of the most damaging players in the competition.

Have you sent your CV/resume’ into the club?

Can't wait to see us get our full midfield back and give Gaff more centre bounce rotations than him.

Like many, he's been knocked about already and it's only round two.
He'll come good and will be handy with more games/consistency under his belt and if used in the right position. A bit like TK, haven't seen the best of him on a continual basis due to the ongoing team/coaching problems. When/if the best 22 are back on the park for a good run of games, then we're likely to see the best of TK, and possibly Samo, with an A-grade Midfield around them..

Early days but...

1. He's much better than pick 52.
2. He's much better than he showed at Carlton.
3. He plays much better when he plays the position he is happier in and more comfortable in and played all his younger football in.
4. Like his pressure and his workrate doesn't seem to be an issue.

Shuey, Yeo, TK and SPS are not the worst midfield going around.

How's SPS going? Wish nothing but the best for him
He looks better than he did when he was at Carlton.

I think the biggest problem you had with him was continually trying to play him across half back when he 1) doesn't like it, 2) hasn't played much junior football there, and 3) is a natural mid who is happiest and plays his best as a mid.

Not that Carlton is unique in playing guys out of position. WC continually recruits half backs and half forwards who they hope will transition to the middle. We also recruit mids and then play them at half forward because 'they're not ready for the rigours of the midfield yet', and in the process ruin their development.

But he's now injured (calf) and not sure how long. Shame. He was coming along nicely.

He did have periods as a midfielder but his main issue was consistency across 4 quarters. He'd have a great half then go completely missing. He only played half back for 1.5 seasons, it's been a but overblown.

Anyway shame about the calf injury. Hope he gets back soon and has a bright future. A good kid

Samo Petrevski-Seton appeared on both Coast to Coast and SEN this week following what was probably his best game since arriving at the club

In both interviews he touched on the work he’s done over the preseason on his mental health and credits the newly appointed club psychologist, Matt Burgin, for the improvement made

The appointment of a full time psychologist didn’t receive much publicity at the time but it’s good to see it paying dividends

And good on SPS for acknowledging an issue, working on it and then being prepared to discuss it

Hoping he can build on that GWS game for the rest of the season

Imagine if he keeps playing like a top ten draft pick.

Jetts took a few seasons to find his feet with us but when he did….

Had a great game against GWS - surprized me really, but it was good to see. I hope he goes on with it against Freo.

Being AA in a losing forward line is like dancing with your sister - I think Ryan is AA capable as wing, backline and forward - for team success, especially for a team that stuggles to get run from the backline then he is one I would be looking straight away as improving our ladder position. Our current set up is nowhere near close enough with run.
Called it

For all the talking up in this thread, SPS really had stuff all impact on the club.

Being the hindsight hero that I am, I called it (to myself of course) that he'd only last the initial two year contract with us.

Cale Morton 2.0 with us. Which is fine, we gave up next to nothing for him, was a local product and if we got anything out of him it would've been a bonus.
