List Mgmt. Welcome Tim Kelly (Traded in 2019 Megatrade)

I wouldn't ever use Gold Coast as an example of good trading strategy

You've left out we essentially swapped 33 for ~47 and 52... the net is we paid 14, ~18 and 24

Still not sure why people are criticising the pick 33 to Essendon trade. We essentially got a 5 pick upgrade in the 50s for nothing.

Yeah thought that was a bit shit by Simmo.

They can play as many games as they want as long as we win flags

On SM-G925I using BigFooty.com mobile app

i think simpson had every right to say that considering we gave up our entire 2019 draft and scott and friends were acting like campaigners about it

Now that he's officially one of us, is anyone else here a bit disgusted Geelong refused to let Kelly out of his contract on compassionate grounds so his two autistic children could have the support and family care they needed two years ago?? It makes me sick how they refused a pretty important request. I know we'll treat him better than that

Now that the dust has settled, I'm even happier we got the trade done & paid what we did.
In the last couple of years we've hit the draft pretty hard so missing 1 year of 18yo kids won't hurt too much in the long run.

TK spoke so well in the presser & seems really happy to finally be at the club. I cannot wait for 2020!

I give this trade 100 proud Simmos.

They are not completely heartless though, they are trying to help Jack Stevens out by getting him around his family. As long as they can exploit the deal by using a late pick for one of the saints best players.

I used Gold Coast as an example because they hold pick 1. No one would trade pick 1 for what we gave to Geelong, draft pick points are a meaningless stat unless you are drafting Academy or Father-Sons.

Kelly content, future taken care of, Family and friends around, kids getting the help mum and dad wanted, most of his mental stress gone you'd imagine, he can concentrate on his footy in a big way...Is he going to go next level in 2020...IMO he will, Love it.
Imagine the roar that's going to go up when he runs out in the blue and gold 1st game of the season proper next year!

We get Round 1 at home in 2020 as well :rainbow:

I actually posted this in the Trade Thread and subsequently thought it should have been here.

I haven’t contributed for years but have continued to read big footy during that time. When you live in Sydney you do get limited information on the West Coast Eagles. Thought I had better get back to contributing again.

I’ve been following the Eagles since 1987 and been a member since 1988. There have been lows and then really good times. This is one of times that I think the Eagles have really nailed the decision to get Tim Kelly. We may have paid overs but my belief is that it will be worth it. This filled the missing piece to the team. The fact that Geelong and the Vic media were so against the trade to us confirms that they really fear the Eagles in 2020. Sort of reminds me of 1994 and we all know what happened that year. We could be looking at the same circumstances in 2020.

Don’t be surprised if the VFL starts discussing the need for a third team in WA...or reallocate Gold Coast to Perth and call them the Golden State Suns.

Gutted to see Tim leave us even though as Cats fans we all knew it was coming. I wish him all the best - he was a consummate professional through his entire time with our club, so honestly I have nothing but respect for the guy.

In terms of what he'll bring to your midfield, I'll just say that while the ground ball get stats that have been posted in this thread demonstrste his excellence in that area, they probably don't *fully* capture how good he is at doing it at full speed, which is how we really hurts teams and breaks lines. He just has this uncanny ability to gather the ball at pace in one silky-smooth movement.

Or Tim could of not nominated himself for the draft if he was not prepared to leave WA. Geelong have done well out of him and from all reports they have done everything in their power to help him, his wife and their kids.
I have no disgust for Geelong for not letting Kelly out of his contract. This is not amateur/auskick stuff. This is the AFL.

Tim Kelly himself doesn't seem to bear any ill will to Geelong. There's no need to get offended for him on his behalf.

On top of that - it was his choice to want to play in the AFL. Geelong didn't confiscate his passport and he was free to return to Perth if that's what he really needed to do. He also spoke of needing to go home but refused to speak with Freo - again his choice, but makes me question how much he really needed to be at home.

I love the fact that he's ours now, but from what I've seen, Geelong have handled it about the same way I wish we had if the roles were reversed.

I was under the impression the diagnoses didn't come until after he'd been drafted?

Think I read at least one is non-verbal? That's bloody tough, can't blame them for wanting to be back with family.

Not at all. I was just replying to someone who said Geelong should of been more compassionate and just let him come home whenever he wanted.
Can only go off what TK said himself which is that Geelong have been magnificent since he has been there.
