Well Mick has won me over big time. He quoted 'Breaking Bad' for god sake.

He is contracted to other companies. The board knew this, don't for 1 second think he will not have input into the club before he officially takes over. He will be calling the shots from today.

Yes he is contracted to several organisations already so it is not impossible to imagine that there would be a way to add another to that list prior to November 1. In fact I would say that his media commitments probably conclude the Monday after the Grand Final.
I have no doubt that he will have input I think however that it wouldn't have been all that difficult to have him in his office 2-3 days a week commencing today. That way he could have 4 weeks off after the trade period rather than during it.

no doubt Mick will sit down with the appropriate people and have his say on what the list needs to play the style that he wants before trade week/month. He will certainly do the same with new assistant coaches.

Other than these things, i don't see the issue with him not starting until after media commitments, given the players are away themselves.

Welcome down Mick! Exciting times.

Made the right noises, was a real presence with the media. Showed respect and appreciation for the club having given him this chance. Wants to teach the players to get the best out of themselves, rather than talking about kicking their arses. Right approach on day 1. Singled out a few Carlton players he has coached at International level as outstanding people.

I'm not going to be a hypocrite here. When he was at the Eagles and Collingwood, many of us would have a laugh at his bizarre media quotes and things like the Milne incident. We don't want to suddenly pretend he is perfect just because he is at Carlton, and I'd imagine Collingwood supporters would be roundly levelling the hypocrisy accusation at us if we did. All we can do is recognise he did well at various times at the clubs he was at and take him at face value from here on in. It's about the Carlton Football Club after all.

I understand why some Collingwood supporters would be peeved at the moment. We would be too.

Having said that, a good start, best of luck Mick.
Well said. I know you have had reservations regarding the whole matter, but once again, well said.

I said I would fall in to line with the club when things were finalised, and to be honest if he started off with anything disrespectful about where the club were at, Ratten's coaching, or building himself up above the club, I would have found issue with it. You don't walk in and become a passionate Carlton person, you have to work at it, and you have to prove yourself. He did as well as he possibly could have and looks like he is excited by the opportunity. That buys him time, and then he just adds to that Carlton resume over the next few months before 2013 comes around.

I might disagree with things he says or does over the journey but the proof of my hypocrisy or lack thereof, will be in whether I am constructive in the way I voice it.

He was very respectful. We will all disagree with things he says or does over the journey but that goes for any coach I guess. Good start.

Fair enough he's starting November 1, he does have other obligations and seriously the older players won't commence training probably till Middle October early November with the younger ones starting a bit earlier... the first few weeks of pre-season will be about fitness predominantly anyway.

Mick might not be around much in person till Nov 1 but he'll be there in spirit and will be on the phone a hell of a lot with all the coaches and administrators aligning everything up....

Firstly lets not be silly and think he didn't see this appointment coming weeks ago, I wouldn't be surprised if before he was approached on the "Monday" he didn't already draft a full plan and what he wants to happen until he commences come 1st November...

Secondly... he knows the list inside out... bet you he's been accessing the channel 7 footage of all our games and looking at each player.. also his late night reading the last week would of been our play book of 2012.

A very professional start by a true professional. No sentiment and taking no shit from the media. Players watching that would be sitting bolt upright and thinking about going for a run. Expect the boys will come back from their holidays in very good shape. Very exciting times, can't wait for the 1st game. The G will be packed.
