I was incredibly impressed with his ability to deliver the ball to the advantage of our forwards, an area in which most of our other mids seem to be fairly clueless. Probably helped that North ended up lacking tall options down back, but still , he seemed to have both the composure and skill to direct the ball to the spot that gave our forwards the best chance of winning their one-on-ones.

That first spot up to Lewis was case in point. It set the tone for Lewis' day and better still, it wasn't the only one he kicked to him that resulted in a goal.

You get the impression Mitch is going to enjoy the service from Duke, there's real penetration on his kicks - his Box Hill long range goals that had us all thinking Ben Allan really highlighted the potential for him to be an attacking weapon.

He's gone past Worpel and expect by year's end he will have JOM covered too as our best on-baller, trailing only T.Mitchell.

What a recruiting coup.

The Ben Allan comparison is looking a safer bet by the week, and we probably have license to dream about the Matthews similarity too.

He's just one of those guys you see and wonder how he flew under everyone's radar till that fill in cameo at Box Hill.

Needs to turn those 18 touches a game up to 25. Doing everything else right.

You definitely want to see him improve, but I think he's doing OK even at 18 playing as a mid/fwd without a full season under his belt.

If it gets up to 25 and the impact remains the same, he'd be in an elite group of players and arguably A-grade.

Not many have hit those kind of heights after a handful of games and one preseason.

Love the way he plays.
I guess we all see the tall running players get drafted time and time again.
But how refreshing to see a stocky bull come in straight away and stamp HIS style on OUR game.
To offer him the "other terms" contract straight away.....we knew we had a player.

Regarding the 18 touches being a bit low, he played nearly the entire 2nd half as a Mid. Basically swapped with O'Meara who was playing forward in the first half (and doing a lot of unrewarded blocking for M.Lewis too).

Due to us playing 12+ mids now a lot of them are going to have lower numbers than usual hence Mitchell only getting 29 as opposed to his usual 40+. But overall it should serve us better than 4 mids getting it heaps and guys doing nothing in a forward pocket all game.

And allowing them to run out games and season better

Jai reminds me of Jordan Lewis at times.

Like a Sewell/Lewis combination - with potentially a higher ceiling than both. I know that's a big call - but he's the player I am most bullish about on our list.

Newcombe is a similar height to Petracca. Right now his is 9kg lighter but there is a fair chance he will have a similar height to weight ratio in a few years - and could be as good.
9kg lighter. Wow didn't expect that just shows how powerful Petracca is. Can tell Jai doesn't quite know his strength yet so in another 3 or so preseasons he is going to be a serious force.
