Love his effort. Was poor kicking today though.

He burnt it a lot early on, but then he had plenty of mates on that front over the course of the game.

Really worked to get back into things, which was more than a lot of guys could say.

Team needs guys who don't fly the white flag when it all gets too hard. Especially while the other younger players are still in their AFL infancy, and won't be able to keep up every week.

Credit to Duke that he kept at it.

Love his kicking style among other things.
The kid never fails to impress.

He had a lot of UP which is a great string to add to his bow

Definitely not lacking for footy IQ points, probably the best of the inside mids along with Jaeger on that front and a better kick than all of them (without the injury issues that have curtailed Jaeger's natural game).

His DE says different, but Jai is far more punishing by foot than any of them with the way he spots up players long and flat like he did with Gunston last week.

Just a very clever player all round once he gets going.

Lionheart ……… saw some footage of him at training yesterday bending over near the boundary line dry heaving. Assume it was from pushing himself to the limit.

I've sad before that Jai reminds me quite a bit of Brad Sewell in his playing style and build.

On the weekend he was one of the few of our players who kept cracking in all day even when the game was well and truely over.

This is another similarity with Sewell, Brad was often our best player on the days we were beaten.

It's a great trait, shows that Jai has a thirst for the contest no matter the game situation.

He’d copped a wack in one of the drills. Had a bit of claret on the snoz.

Newcombe has already had 5 scoring shots from just four games so far this year. A good indiction that he’s added another element to his game.

He had that in the VFL too, I keep saying he's the kind of guy that moves up a level and doesn't really change in output despite the fact he had come straight from the ammo bush league.

Some nice long goals in his VFL highlights that were around pre-midseason draft.

Newcombe surely gets rising star? 31 disposals, 3 tackles, 6 inside 50s, 2 clearances, 5 score involvements
Played too many games last year?

He was outstanding today.
