Hope he can improve it obviously but just something very hard to teach.

I mean if he had good skills to go with the rest of his game you would think he would have been a top 5 pick.

Anyways fingers crossed.

Debutant game for James Worpel: 13 disposals at 85% efficiency, with reported high pressure when he did not have the ball.
RIOLIN: I love that you ask the questions with hopes for the best.
Worpel’s 1st game has not answered your questions (no single game could) but he has given us a reason to smile and hope he could be awesome.

Had very clean touches for a kid playing his first game at this level.

Hope he stays in and gets a few games, but with Siss and Shiels likely ins, not sure who will make way.
Cousins would be the one out for Shiels

Not sure who comes out for Sis, but unlikely Worpel if he's playing the forward pressure role.

Jack Graham was in an almost identical position the year prior, and he's started his career off superbly.

Sometimes players with great skills as juniors find it more difficult to employ those skills in the high pressure of AFL footy, so IMO you're always better off picking a tough at it player with leadership capability and working on their kicking. Take McLuggage and Berry at Brisbane, McLuggage had the wraps on his skill as a player and being someone who was smooth moving but has had a lot less impact in his time in the seniors than Berry who was a bit less flash and a tougher player.

I think that's the failings of a lot of teams when it comes to who they draft.

Nice that the boy is getting a taste of playing the * early in his career.
I want him to play the brandbaggers, I want him to hate them, I want the stain washed off, I want to sit back breathe a sigh of relief and say "Yes the kid is Hawthorn through and through."

I know he was a Falcons boy, but so was Hodge. Was he a 'Straight Setters' supporter as well?

Hodge was a Tigers supporter wasn't he?

Huge cats supporters, one of his brothers went to the cats game on the weekend.

Absolutely love this kid. He is clean and makes right decisions. Has a footy brain and a massive body for his years.

Huge huge up side and has the support of his teammates.

I haven’t been as excited about a first year player since buddy emerged from the gloom against Richmond in 2005 and kicked a brilliant running goal.

Whilst he is a completely different player, there is an ease about the way he does things which shows maturity. Will have his down weeks as buddy did in 2005 and 2006, however will come good.

Could be anything.

Yes, Hodgey was a mad Tigers supporter. Debut was against them too.

Buddy was a Demons fan also - he moved north when a free agent though. Gunston was a * fan, from a big * family and yet he came to us in 2012. I think once a lad gets among a good team culture and makes some mates the whole childhood club thing has bugger all appeal.
