If we're looking for super athletic elite contested marking KPD's (with questionable kicks) then aren't Adams and Young exactly that?

Does this pick indicate potential question marks over Adams injurys?
I think it means that Adams might play more and more time in the forward half for us.

If this is true then I'm glad we took him, despite him not being a need.

That was a joke post I made before we even made our pick.

I was making fun of how every club is supposedly surprised that "X slid to them" and in a couple of weeks we will hear how "X is training the house down". :p

Q1. No. Naughton (194cm) has been described as more of a 3rd tall so he's not really a like-for-like with Adams. Adams (192cm) is shorter but is built like a Mallee bull (96kg). After Trengove (197cm, 97kg) our best taller prospect in defence is probably Young (197cm, 90+kg in 2018) - a better prospect than Roberts, Roughead or Collins at this stage - so again it's not a genuine like-for-like. And there's also a reasonable chance we could try Young or Adams up forward at some stage if Schache/Redpath/Boyd don't work out. So no, they're not mutually exclusive IMO.

Q2. Yes. Adams was our best KPD talent in 2017 so the concern over multiple foot injuries probably had a part to play in our bringing in Trengove and then drafting Naughton. I imagine Bev will sleep a little easier with those two added to the list.

Unfortunately, there has to be concerns over Adams' durability. The only cure for the injury that has put him out for half a season two seasons in a row seems to be complete rest (bar swimming I presume). From what I glean from the club's website, he is not back into full training yet. Fingers crossed for Adams, he is a top player.

Hes gonna be a good player but im still sad that collingwood managed to get both stephenson and murphy. Like yes we got the best KPP in the draft but all we needed were mids who could break lines. Good depth at the position will help next year im sure however if mids start to go down with injury our cover for them is limited.

Richards might be a line breaking mid.

Stephenson can break lines but I don't think Murphy can he is not the fastest bloke around.

We got Richards and Porter who both are quick and can break lines.

I feel like I read this every draft.. everyone spews when they see the players they rate go to all one club.. there's a reason Simon passes on these players and his success rate is good so let's trust him

Looks like Adams and Young are moving to the forward line.

Backs : Trengove, Morris, Roberts, Wood, Collins, Naughton

Forwards : Schache, Dickson , Boyd

Swingmen : Cordy, Adams, Young

Beveridge coaches to players strengths, that is why we won the flag in 2016, the list profile has changed, so will the game plan.

So I've heard he apparently had told clubs not to pick him as he wanted to get to Collingwood? Interesting..... says a lot about his character. Nonetheless, he looks the best defender and Kieran Collins hasn't come along.
Trengove is an upgrade on Collins. Naughton is an upgrade on Roberts. Also have Marcus Adams when fit.
If Collingwood wanted him they could have grabbed him at 6.

Yep. That worked well for him. He might have wanted to go to Collingwood but clubs would have reported him to the AFL if he told them not to draft him. His agent would have killed that idea before anything came of it. The AFL and clubs are soft on draft tampering but they won't stand for that crap. Go spin your bullshit elsewhere mate.

Dont doubt the players will be successful just see a need to be filled and its hard to see currently that we will fill said needs this season. Long term im sure all will work out just fine

I’ve seen him compared to a lot of players but after watching 12-13 minutes of highlights I see a taller, more attacking Easton Wood. Seems to have a lot of the same defensive instincts.

While he’s likely to be groomed as a key back, Naughton’s ability to grab the contested mark could see him play as a forward at times, where his speed and football IQ would serve him well.

Any chance this is realistic? Did well at the goal kicking in the combine and can take a grab.

Melbourne just handed over two first round picks and an $800k per annum contract for a player that Naughton could realistically replicate in a couple of years.

He'll end up being better than any other key position player taken in this draft, and the most adaptable should there be a shift away from multiple KPFs.

Trengove, Adams and Cordy give us a good KPD core for the next few years, with Naughton and Young hopefully able to slot in thereafter. Collins can take his time as depth.
