West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

The list management, while obviously not perfect, got the club a flag and two grand final appearances within 8 years of a spoon.

Crows are still having a wide year relevant to expectations than us and bottled their change in September

This is true, and I think most supporters would realistically trade several years of bottom finishes for a flag.

However, for the last couple of years we heard from WCE fans that you were only bad because of bad luck with injuries, and a few other unlucky things.

It's become rapidly clear that the issue goes beyond 'luck', and you're just a thoroughly uncompetitive side.

That's the issue at hand.

West Coast , today, had 17 players with 10 or less disposals for the entire match. That's putrid.
Give them the first 5 picks of next year's draft to get them to competitive stage at least within the next 2 or 3 years.
Hell no

I would say the last two years was bad luck with injuries. We may have still ended up in the same spot this year but it has meant players have been playing seniors and getting smashed for 18 months when they should have been building confidence in the wafl.

it's looking grim but jeez the AFL really didn't do us many favours with the fixture. 1 home game in the first month vs port, gws, dogs and swans is a pretty rough start.

You beat us last year. Port away was rough but you had Giants at home. You should not be rewarded for strategic mediocrity.

If we didn't have Duryea, JJ and Jones bloating our numbers, we were younger than you!

As much as I hate it, I think west coast are well and truly in priority pick territory this year.

I could see them having a winless season, or maybe getting lucky in one game.

That would be make them substantially worse than north over a 3 year period.

North had 9.5 wins over 3 seasons 2021-2023

West Coast are currently at 5 wins in 2 seasons with games played played.

Those saying West Coast should get what north got in 2022 are denying that west coast is substantially worse over time than what north was then.

I wasn’t for a PP for eagles last year.
But don’t think it was injury related.

Coach just ain’t up to it. It was absolutely clear last year by rnd5.
First time I’ve seen them today.
Omg…that’s the laziest defensive running I’ve seen in years! Absolute disgrace.

So, before AFL hand outs….how about the eagle change something….anything!!! Change the mascot FFS….

But what is happening is the absolute definition of insanity!!

Why they wouldn’t pay the tax last year is beyond me. Just set themselves back 12 months. Laughable when they sack him by mid year (at worst).

North at least tried to change things….
What have eagles done to substantially change things?!?

Harley needs to get out end of the year. You can't enjoy playing football in such a pathetic team
100%.
Should have offloaded that pick for multiple picks over multiple years…unless they think his value would go up by taking him?

Either way, he’s now a resource they need to use to rebuild….keeping him doesn’t actually help them rebuild.

North was a 4 year stretch in the bottom 2.

I'm not opposed to WC getting a 2nd and 3rd rounder to assist with trades, like North got.

This idea of “just change something” isn’t the silver bullet.

How many coaches did Richmond suck in their 35 years of rubbish, and how much did that help them?

Same with Carlton.

If we sacked simmo last year, we’re looking at 2.5 million in payout that AFL wasn’t going to help us with- unlike Melbourne who they helped out at the start of 2010’s.

I agree with comments that defensive running is atrocious and part of that is coach having buy in from players.

I doubt simmo will be the coach when we put an application together for a priority pick.

2020 was a reduced season and even then North won 3/17.

Factoring in West Coast went 2W 7L at the end of 2021 it still means west coast have been worse over similar number of games.

Good comments.

Games very different to what it was 20 years ago….so calling on that as an example is a cop out.

Would a new coach be worse? If so….how?

Why would the AFL give a hand out when you haven’t actually tried anything?

That’s my point.

Pa. Pretty sure the eagles could afford the tax….money ain’t the reason. Arrogance and pride is.

Edit: didn’t mean for this to sound so harsh. Just legitimately asking questions and challenging eagles fans. Feel for you all.

We both won 3 games last year

We both won 2 games the year before

In 2021 we won 4 games, you won 10 games

In 2020 we won 3 games, you won 12 games

So far this year we are both 0/3

On what planet has west coast been substantially worse than north?

There has been about 10 changes at the club from fitness staff and assistant coaches to the ceo over the last off season.

This isn’t uncommon for #1 picks.

Do you think Hawthorn was “best place” for Hodges development?

Or Sam Walsh at Carlton in 2018? Or Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer?

Or Dusty at Richmond?

Could even throw in Pavlich there too.
Hawks might have been as we got hodge off a prelim loss
