Really?!?
And the mascot? Was that changed?
Does a list manager that fans view as a mascot count?

Good comments.
Games very different to what it was 20 years ago….so calling on that as an example is a cop out.
Would a new coach be worse? If so….how?
Why would the AFL give a hand out when you haven’t actually tried anything?
That’s my point.
Pa. Pretty sure the eagles could afford the tax….money ain’t the reason. Arrogance and pride is.
Edit: didn’t mean for this to sound so harsh. Just legitimately asking questions and challenging eagles fans. Feel for you all.
Bit of JHF about him you think?
So let me get this straight…You’re misunderstanding my point.
My point is the AFL’s own system constrained West Coast from being able to sack Simmo because of the prohibitive soft cap tax which would have added an additional 2 million in tax on top of a 2 million dollar pay out.
This is different than the situation with North, GCS or Carlton as they were “assisted” clubs and only needed to pay their coach 6 months as per the AFL’s own rules.
So to then turn around and say “why haven’t you changed coach” when it’s the AFL’s rules that prevented that from occurring is rather rich.
In terms of “eagles are rich”, I doubt any organisation with a board of directors charged with corporate governance could in good faith sign off on payout of 4.5 million with 2.5 million as a tax to AFL.
It’s certainly not a situation any other club faces, largely because they aren’t rich, and therefore have the “6 month pay out” clause.
We’ve changed our CEO, our list manager, our football boss, our S&C team.
To say we haven’t done anything is not only wrong, but also incredibly ignorant.
Hope so for your sakeI don’t think so.
He had a bit of an issue with JHF and leaving after 12 months. Made some public comments about it which were critical of him.
Reid is probably a better player than JHF, and is without doubt a more resilient and better character.
It doesn't make sense why West Coast as a club care about money, when they give so much of it to the AFL anywaySo let me get this straight…
You’re saying that AFL assisted clubs can sack their coach with 6 month payouts…but non assisted clubs can’t?
…..maybe think about that for a second.
The same board…who is so amazing in their financial governance….signed guy with an aging list for 5 years at 1M a season?!?
So yeah….2.5M tax seems good governance to me!!
At some point you need to cop your sack. Eagles seem super keen to avoid that…:and look where we are!
6 month payout clause was introduced after you clowns signed him for 6 years….
Simple question;
For all the changes you progress…
What have you seen this year that is different to 2023?
Sack him this year? Save 1M?
Awesome work.
We both won 3 games last year
We both won 2 games the year before
In 2021 we won 4 games, you won 10 games
In 2020 we won 3 games, you won 12 games
So far this year we are both 0/3
On what planet has west coast been substantially worse than north?
Hope so for your sake
Feels like we wasted a year of development/games on JHF that could of gone into anyone else.
Silver lining is we got Sheezel & Wardlaw so did pretty good in the end.
Yeah wait and seeMy sense is the club with the player usually comes off better in trades.
Freo lost Cerra, got Amiss.
North lost JHF got a bounty of picks that included helping the get sheezel
And Wardlaw.
3 year contracts help, and I think Harley is genuinely wanting to make a crack of it. Not sure JHf really did.
Hard road ahead. Let’s see how it works out.
Because they give /receive less more than 14 other clubs?!?It doesn't make sense why West Coast as a club care about money, when they give so much of it to the AFL anyway
North was getting Sheezel, anyway. JHF helped North to get Wardlaw and Goad.My sense is the club with the player usually comes off better in trades.

Hawks might have been as we got hodge off a prelim loss
Eternityhow many years do we deserve?
Just to be clear….the AFL doesn’t have 2 sets of rules mate.Yes, this is exactly what I’m saying, and is exactly how the system works.
If you don’t know this, I suggest you read about how the software cap worked in relation to coach contracts and the changes made to coaches contracts in covid before you speak without knowing what you are talking about.
I’d say our list is far healthier than last year in comparing injury list, slightly fitter. But more to the point you don’t go from depths of where we were to being super ultra competitive in just one off season.
It takes a number of years to be able to track changes. There’s no silver bullet that can solve west coasts non-competitiveness overnight.
My sense is you’re oversimplifying this intentionally to be facetious. All you’re really doing is exposing your lack of sincerity and lack of desire to engage in a good faith conversation, and your lack of knowledge of footy and footy departments and how they work.
North received compo in 2022 based off their poor 2020-2022 seasons and received additional compo again in 2023. Over 4 seasons
Over those four seasons North were 12 w 1D 69 losses.
By time we get to the end of the year, it’s likely west coast would have a worse w/L over their latest 80 odd games, currently they’re at about 7 of their last 55.
I wouldn’t be surprised if west coast win 1 game this year of the remaining 20. That would be 8 wins in their last 75 games which is worse than Roos 12/82.
Keeping in mind that north received 3 end of first round picks, a pick at begginging of 2nd round and a pick at beginning of the 3rd round, plus extra rookie picks.
Just to be clear….the AFL doesn’t have 2 sets of rules mate.
Why you think they do is a little concerning.
Suggest you go find that evidence and present it to me?!?
Because to My understanding there are no rules around payouts except when it’s the last year of the contract. But I’ll await the response to tell me otherwise….and then I’ll apologise!!
you seem to the be one getting your nose out of joint here.
You haven’t responded to why the eagles board, which has such great governance, gave a 5 year contract to a coach.
Out of curiosity….when was the last 5 year coach contract given?!?
Maybe stop going me and actually take a step back and look at the decisions made by the club.
I’m an outsider with zero care.
Again, the term was “substantially worse than north”.
Again, we have won the same amount of games over the last 2 years, and the same amount of games this year.
The two years before that when west coast won 20 games, north won 7.
Let us also not forget that the AFL DO NOT hold our licenses, which aggravates them greatly and they are loathe to help us in any way. We and freo are WA held licenses.Again, yes, there are two distinct sets of rules.
One for clubs that get “AFL assistance” and those who do not.
Quote:
“The new guideline mandates a maximum six-month settlement to any sacked coach at an AFL-funded club regardless of the length of his contract.”

AFL insists on six-month payout clauses for coaches
New guidelines to AFL-funded clubs limits payouts regardless of the length of contracts. But the coaches' association believes it gives incompetent boards a ''get-out-of-jail-free'' card.amp.theage.com.au
Those different rules allowed GCS to sack Dew with 2 years left on his contract and Saints to sack Brett Ratten before his new contract had even started with a maximum pay out of 6 months or around 400K.
That option wasn’t available to west coast as it is not an assisted club.
In combination with the salary cap tax, which is incredibly punitive west coast was looking at millions in taxes ro afl on top of the payout.
In future, you really should look for this stuff yourself, before you talk about something you clearly don’t know about.
It’s really not that hard. Village idiot by name, and village idiot by nature.
There’s a bit of assumptions on my part based on how this year looks to be unfolding.
But yes. By the end of this year, I expect Aest Coasts last 3 seasons, 2022,2023,2024 to be worse than Norths 2020,2021,2022 which is the period at which they first got assistance.
Also chuck in the fact we lost 7/9 at the back end of 2021 and it’s substantially worse.
Let’s not forget north won 4.5 games in 2021. No way west coast gets anywhere near that.
The offers made were substantially to low to be considered seriously. No way. they had a chance to split their pick 1 to get multiple picks but chose not. They had a chance to make a serious play on Luke Jackson and only had Luke warm offers for him. they deserve to sit on those decisions for a couple of years.
