I was just wondering what the Bulldog supporters thought on our two clubs rivally. It has been created over some time now with many of our games being resulted by less then a kick (last years two were some of the best footy all year) but I wouldn't recognise our rivalry as your traditional rivalry.

Rarely are our games marred with melee's, they don't create much remorse amongst supporters nor are they commercialised or marketed like other rivals (Essendon vs Collingwood/Hawthorn, local derby's, Grand Final re-matches), they basically provide great quality football and I, along with many Geelong supporters, enjoying watching the game. They are usually intense, high speed and free flowing... looking forward to round one!

Yeah, I've noticed aswell. Both Dogs v Cats matches last year were around the 45,000 - 50,000 spectator mark. Two great matches btw. 2 points between both of em.

I'd be embarrassed to take my enemy's to Skilled/Shell/Baytek/Kadina Park. It's a hole. I'd go as far to say i wouldn't piss on it, but then i couldn't bring up the fact that it has piss troughs rather than urinals in the Hickey Stand.

Of course, i have fine memories of the ground. Whilst sitting there abusing Ben Graham, i was nearly lynched by Geelong supporters, that was of course until Benny cost them the game and they all wanted him dead. One supporter then kicked a thermos that hit another supporter. Smart bunch they are.

Then of coruse there is your team. Inbred bunch of arse clowns. We have Jesus, who i despise more than most, generally because Geelong supporters literally think he's the second coming. You'd do a booming undies sale anyway given the amount of times they'd have to change them during a game.

We have finals loses. Billy dislodging the monkey off his back in 94, the pantsing you give us in 95, and then there's of course 92. By the mid 90's i couldn't listen to that theme song without curling into a ball and crying.

Finally we have memories of last year and the woman in front of me who would go into fits of joy every time the aforementioned Junior would go anywhere near the ball. I was ashamed for both of us. And her boyfriend who avoided eye contact with her at all times.

Do i hate your club? Probably as much as i hate other clubs.

This was fun, somewhat theroputic. Lets do it again sometime. I'm sure i can think of more reasons why i don't like you.

I could add a lot to that. But that pretty much sums it up. Plus their team makes up for their supporters down falls.

I don't like Geelong. Too boring to be a decent city, not nice enough to be a good country town.

'Mexico is like Geelong, but less ********ty'- Jay, Frenzal Rhomb.

Now i will defend the township of Geelong. Its nicer/cleaner then a lot of Melbourne suburbs. Just the Geelong fans that let the place down.

Geelong supporters annoy me more than most... The second time we played them I was stuck in front of a man who, for the entire match, only said the same two words- 'Go Catters'. Every time they intercepted the ball, 'go catters', every time they kicked a goal, 'go catters', when they touched the ball, 'go catters', every time they THOUGHT about touching the ball, 'go catters'. I mean for God's sake, think of something new every once in a while, make it interesting...be witty, be clever, just don't add 'ters' to your name and think it's OK to repeat incessently...and don't even get me started on the Adelaide supporter I sat in front of in the round 20 match...

I love a good rant. Save it until we play Adelaide :)

We always seem to have these types of games between our two teams Doggies and Geelong, exciting to watch and heart stopping aswell. I too look forward to Round 1, I think it is our turn to win this time by 1 point. :)

Dear Santa,

I've been a very good boy this year, so far...most of the time.

I would like my Christmas present early this year. I don't really want much, just a round 1 like last year will do.

Thank you,

Enjoy the milk & cookies I have left,

TCD

I too hate the cats, too many bad memories of playing finals against them in the 90s - and losing. The only thing I hate more is Malcomn Blight. Did we every win a final against this bloke as a coach (Cats & Crows)? Need I say more!

He definitely has caused us quite a few headaches over the years - he just disected our game each and every time whilst he was coaching Geel and Adelaide.

And I loved it when he got the flick from St Kilda. I also cant stand him as a commentator - makes everything try to sound so logical and easy - as if all players were are gifted as he was. But he took one of the best ever speccy's in a final in the 70s.

I also recall a game at Optus oval (I think the Hockey/Wira incident) where it was 1 vs 2 on the ladder and we pipped them - that was cool.

Of course, i have fine memories of the ground.

Hmmm... no mention of May 2002? I have a very fine memory of the match except for this big mouth lout standing really close to me. And he was Bulldogs supporter too! ::embarrassment:: :D

I can only imagine he was the great living Bulldog supporter of all time.

No, not the lout, but there was this other softly spoken Bulldogs fan and then again there was Rocco or did he go? It's almost five years ago and my memory is fading at my age.

Re: Western Bulldogs s Geelong - A friendly rivalry?

You should live here:mad:
As a Bulldog supporter in enemy territory - I don't feel at all friendly. When we win things are very quiet, but if Geelong wins - here comes a premiership;)
Its great we have the Barwon Bulldogs here - a group of over 250 Bulldog supporters. At least we can rejoice together!

Re: Western Bulldogs s Geelong - A friendly rivalry?

Whats that thing-a-ma-jig that we play for? The Western Regional Cup? Well, whatever it is, its shyt.

Rivalries should be built up over years of close, hard-fought contests, not the AFL just trying to commercialise (is that a wrod?) everything.

After saying that though, we (Geelong Supporters) have thought we have the best 'young list' after 2002, and for 2-3 years we had a rivalry with StK about the 'young lists.' IMO the Doggies have a darn good 'young list', and if we play out another few fantastic games like last year, I think a rivalry will be built.

Atleast on BigFooty anyway.

That was a great game. Couldn't believe we were on top considering the year before.

Browny also kicked 7 in a game between the two sides in the late 90's. Final score was something like 155-134.

Don't like Geelong at all, but when both sides meet, there's normally a very good contest. Hopefully it continues this year.
