Good response by Cripps. The club can’t respond to every bit of speculative nonsense that comes out while we’re down, but some crap just needs to be squashed. Poor form by media and ‘supporters’ who thrive in the speculative cesspool that is social media.

We changed our gameplan noticeably after our first Collingwood loss in round 11 last year - emphasising defensive structure over all else.

At that point Cripps had 18 of his 29 Brownlow votes (6 of the rest were him going wolverine mode to try and drag us over the line in rounds 19 and 23) and 15 of the 20 goals he kicked.

Cripps has suffered as much as anyone from that structural change. He isnt pushing forward aggreasively. He is running defensively more, and i guess as a team we are more robust but he has lost his explosiveness and edge.

I have said elsewhere i think we need to rotate mids more heavily tonplay this style. More bursts for Cripps and probably no more than 40-50% midfield (for anyone) which means he plays 30% forward and 20% bench.

He seems to have lost a but of confidence too... as a crazy wondering, i would like to see him play CHB (or third tall defender) for a few weeks. Kouta did this in 98 and it reinvigorated him. In particular, it helped him start to see the whole fiels rather than the contest, and figure out how to have more infkuence. More intercept marks. More strategic pushes forward. More focus on running to space to be a release pass or break lines. That then translated to going full time mid and peak career form.

Two other examples - Lionel Messi famously doesnt run or engage for the first 5 minutes or so of every game. He basically just watches, as a way ofndealing with nerves but then also reading the game and ita patterns. Cripps NEVER gets that - he is always head down from the first bounce. Similarly, i love how Nick Daicos is used, starting off half back and having time to pick up cheapies, see the field, pick his moments, and then bang into the midfield in the q4. Cripps isn't either of those guys but more timemout of the guts and in observer mode would help him imo

Terrible journalism. Why didn't she report that Crippa
-Went up a day early to spend time with the fans and the coaches.
-Was in the rooms with coaches and senior players debriefing until 1:30am after the game.
Agree. They obviously don't fact check, just hear from a "source" and go with it without any concern.

Footy Classified running with Cripps & Doc not staying at the same hotel as the team in SYD.
Odd teamwork & leadership if so.

Even if it were true I don’t see an issue with it. As long as they are around for meetings, training, team building activities and to meet the fans I don’t care where they sleep.

What if a player were crook, or staying with their own family, or a hotel was fully booked. Caro can get stuffed for jumping the gun.

The need to make up a story where there isn’t one is diabolical … I avoid media as much possible and there’s some journalists out there that are just not the best at what they do …
