What’s up with Cripps?

I find it bewildering people think Cripps is content with personal awards or not caring. I think he is and has in the past been a victim of trying to do too much. He thinks he has to put us on his back week in week out and struggles to do the smaller things like trust his mates to go in and get the footy. He is the person I feel for the most at the club with us yet again underperforming.

According to the HUN, Caro rang Patrick and personally apologised.

How about a public apology Caro!
As long as she apologised to Crippa and Doc, I think that's all that's needed. They are the most affected, I'm sure she'll admit on the next FC that she got it wrong and that she apologised.

Still remember him trying to play in the VFL with a broken leg in his early days

Crippa is obviously not as effective as last season and even when he wins first possession it is 50:50 whether we gain the next possession

Positioning of his team mates is critical

Crippa also needs to back himself in but also ensure he doesn’t take away his own advantage (contests in the clinches)

Couple of times I have seen him trying to guard the space to the ruck ball drop, if he does that and gets too far away from the ball it gives the advantage to his opponent as space is their friend not Cripps’

I agree with Kayne Cornes on this, Crippa is too stationary too often. He needs to get on his bike and be on the move more. Its what he did last year and not doing it this year. I remember Braddles used to say that's how he got ring of blokes hanging off him, just run. I recall him jogging around the centre square at a ball up trying to shake off David King. Before too long, Kings tongue was hanging out, worked. Now I''m not for a minute suggesting Crippa is in Braddles league for running endurance but you get what I mean.

People, as a whole, are fairly dumb.

I just want to throw up something up about Cripps here.

If nothing else, he is bloody committed to this club. 10 years, no finals, carries a big load every week and he has been a shining light in an awful period (era? Generation?)

This week, his commitment to the club was questioned by muckraking journalists - falsely, unfairly, and opportinistically, taking advantage of our clubs poor form to get media views

My challenge is to every Carlton supporter at the game to show how much we support Cripps. He is down a bit on form, no doubt feeling pretty ordinary about pretty much everything. He has never taken a backeard step for the club, even if he does have his flaws (and aren't we all human in that respect)

He is a hard bloke to salute on field becaus ehe gets so much in and under...

So my suggestion is that he is given a standing ovation when he goes to the center bounce for the coin toss and that supporters remain standing until he gets his first possession (no doubt 4 seconds into the match, but whatever) at which point we give an almighty roar, which is then repeated for wvery one of the 51 touches and 4 goals he'll no doubt repay us with (knowing Crippa's luck we will still lose). Maybe the first part is too much but a bloody big roar of approval every time he touches it would be nice.

As supporters, its easy to focus on the negatives, particularly when we are losing. There is also often very little we cam do to change or fix things.

Right now, i think there is. Time we stood up for Crippa as he has done for us so often...

(To add a little bit of spice to the challenge: Essendon supporters went beserk for poor James Hird back in the day, inspiring him to a match winning effort after he... publicly humilated an umpire? Crippa deserves this 10x more imo).

At the time she raised the question she also admitted that there may be a reason for them to stay at different hotels…it wasn’t a blatant attack on Crippa/doc.…and others on the panel gave examples of why players sometimes stay at different venues …eg for media or sponsor related events or other. She just raised it as a point of discussion and llloyd agreed that it was not a good look specially at a time when your club is struggling.

She's a past master at saying but not saying something.

It doesn't matter that she qualifies it - just saying it out loud on TV or in print is enough. And she knows it.

Such a weaselly way to make a living.

Agree, but it is her job. And as you say not a very good job.

It certainly feels like media enjoy digging the boots into Carlton when we’re doing poorly

It is not her job to make crap up. To rely on "I am not saying this is true I am just asking questions" is straight from the Fox News play book. Heard Cripps was staying at a different hotel to the other players call the club for comment like a proper Journalist.

Do you really believe footy classified is about journalism though?

Its just another footy show where they discuss whatever topic they can find.

There is only so much you can talk about that is worth talking about before they start scratching the bottom of the barrel. And thats what Cripps hotel topic was. A nothing story really.

Reckon there’s two factors here -
Firstly because journalists know we have a massive fan base and one that is largely bursting with disappointment, dissatisfaction and anger.
Secondly, despite our incredibly poor results in the past 20 years, our history remains - we are THE tall poppies.
Carlton is an easy way to clicks, ratings, readers, viewers and - most galling - entertainment by being the brunt of jokes.

Agree. The sooner we get better the better.

Another ex-coach said this morning, probably not the ideal time to be spending a night away with the wife so close to the bye and with the heat on your club, being the leader...

Couldn't agree more...
... what business of theirs - or yours - is it what Cripps does in his own time?

I saw some vision and I think I know what's up. He's spending too much time mowing the lawn, surfing and playing golf. Exhausted come game day. 😜

Is being targeted and being an easy win for the opposing player, needs to show some fight & lift to stop the centre square (and around the ground) pantsing of late.
