Our ruck division. Has the potential to cost us a Premiership.
Really, is it because our options are young?

I do like Conway but he's still growing into himself, hopefully he gets a good run at it this season.

De Koning is good but I also really like his defence, a bigger hybrid than Blitz

My concern is that there will be several new faces to blend into the mix and how many seasons til the 'worst midfield' in the league will be there ;)

Not making finals in 2025. That means Justin Longmuir gets sacked.

That means 1 year of finals out of 6 from 2020 to 2025.

That also means the dockers made finals only 8 years out of 31 from 1995 to 2025. Only one period of dockers making back to back finals in that 30 year period too. That is from 2012 to 2015.

Couldn't even make finals in 2021 to back back to back finals in 2021-22. Couldn't make finals in 2004-5 to have a sustainable finals period from 2003 to 2006.

Horrible.

That we'll waste a good development year and squander a potential finals appearance by persisting with proven dud Matthew Nicks as coach.
I don't think Matthew Nicks is a dud coach. He wasn't Handed a top 4 side in 2020.

Some blame is down to the recruiters for not nailing all the early picks from 2017-21.

Crows only weakness is the midfield. I like the crows back line and forward line

Matthew Nicks proven he has no clue about coaching strategies... which is why we have brought in Davis to take this over.

Player wise, squad looks decent... except if O'Brien is injured, we are in big strife!
Again .... I don't think Matthew Nicks is a dud coach.

Back line and forward line are good.

Dawson and Soligo needs more help in the midfield. I was hoping Jackson Hateley was gonna be good as a solid 190 cm inside mid.

I gotta hope Sid Draper does well

1. Injuries
2. Injuries
3. Injuries

The worry is RTB is overcooking the squad in preseason to hit the ground running but too many have broken down before r1. Hopefully they've learned from the last 2 years.
To be honest Saints getting injuries to some of those older players made Ross Lyon be forced to play some younger players. I don't think that's a bad thing to be fair.

Exchanging a u for an e with the J.Longm coaches could be the best way for Freo to play in another grand final though - surely you'd take missing one more year of finals to get that. And J.Longmire always wins his first grand final with a new club.

Mate.... My expectations are low or moderate.

I am not expecting a flag with the dockers playing list. I want a solid finals run.

Make finals for 2 or 3 or 4 years in a row.

I don't care if we get Brad Scott and he gives us similar finals success like he did at North Melbourne of 2014-16.

Hell, I won't mind Ken Hinkley as dockers coach for 10 years of he yields similar finals success like he did at Port from 2013 to 2024

They have the universally recognised best 25 and unders in the comp.

I think handing the keys to one of the best coaches in the business could see a very successful era.

It could still happen with Muir but he hasn't shown much obvious acumen.

To some degree l feel the same, but by volume and timing the last 2 years has been terrible for us. The extra time into the kids will pay off at some point but without those star players our mix of youth and injuries has been difficult to mask.

New entry:

Backline balance for Geelong.

Duncan is near the end but we don't really have a prolific, skillful replacement for half back.

Blicavs played easily his best 2024 footy as a KPD but where does that leave SDK?

Mullin is exciting but raw.

Stewart and Holmes both greatly helped midfield when moved in there. Will the move be permanent for Holmes and will it kill our run off half back?

We lack real 1v1 lockdown defenders.

Getting the backline balance right will be a marker for whether Geelong can contend again.

I think our biggest risk is ego and assuming we automatically get better.

Mitchell had the kids building and getting better week by week. That needs to continue.
And avoid another horrid start. Starting 0-5 was completely unacceptable from a Hawthorn point of view.

Beat the Dons in round 1 (2024) and steal the Gather round win over the Pies and you're finishing second and probably playing in a GF last year.

My biggest fear for the Crow's is that Nick's will somehow stuff up the game plan again and ruin another season with this very promising group the club has developed.

You can have the best set of under 25 players in the comp, but if you can't deliver consistent performances and make finals for 2 or 3 or 4 years in a row, you are wasting your time

But they will be the 23-29 year olds driving that.

A better coach would help with consistency and getting the best out of that group.

Realise that your nihilistic view of Fremantle is illogical. Past sides have nothing to do with this one. Do they have the best coach available? That's the big question.

Consistency. Started terribly last year then it all clicked and had a really great run and played really good football for a long stretch. Hoping that the improvement continues with our good young players and that we can play consistently week to week and be up for the grind of a long season.
