Autopsy "What Do We Say To The God of Death?" - Freo Keep Season Alive Against Gc

I thought it looked pretty good. Then again I'm in tracky dacks, a 20 year old Freo top with a broken zip and a swans beanie.
I fell in love with freo because they are purple and different.

I hope next year for the gather round they come up with a funkier purple design not the shit they wore tonight.

I only watched it at the game, so did not see the game that well.

The first half
1. The took too many 1v1 marks in the forward line. I think we missed Chapman, and Swallow was too tall.
2. When they got the ball, they could chip the ball through the middle, we did not chase hard enough to stop it.
3. W kicked straight.
4. Than ran hard to get to the outside on the switch. I wonder if we have enough speed in our team.
5. our kicking to our forwards is shocking.

2nd half.
We stopped the short ball, forced them to kick long
I think our fitness helped, as they couldn't get to the outside.
The midfield got on top.
I thought our run from behind improved, and we took on the game.

Walters was brilliant. He is by far the best small forward we have. (3 goals, gives away at least 2. Brilliant)
Serong looked to get on in the middle.
Luke Jackson, Amiss stood up when we needed them.
We badly misseed chapman, we were too short down back

It's interesting to see your comments re: backline being too short. We have Pearce, Cox, Ryan (won an AA as an undersized KPD) and Young who's 190cm. Honestly when we had Chappy in there in the first few rounds I thought we actually looked way too tall. I think the problem isn't height so much as our collective back 6 being poor 1-on-1 defensively this year. None of them are really that proficient at locking guys down, they're mostly intercept players.

Amiss, ****en hell is already a player but I recon he's going to be a premier fwd of the competition in due course. Has added contested marking to his bow too, becoming a complete player.

Already mentioned earlier but Johnson is class, needs to stay in from here on.

For the love of god, please keep Sturt in the team. You all saw the glimpses, give him some consistency in the 1sts and he'll be special.

Don't really care that Banners kicked a goal, I don't want him in the team. I don't think we would lose any mobility playing Treacy over him, he brings the pressure.

Last quarter was something to build the rest of the season on, surely they can all see that fast precise play with low kicks to leads is the way to go.
Pretty sure he did more than kick the sealer. Handball to brayshaw that kicked the goal, and Schultz who couldnt complete the gimme goal. But yeah you can cry that he doesn't deserve his spot for next week 😂🤣

Darcy almost single-handedly won us that game
Respect

Good signs from Johno, I think we might have one there

Cox turning it up in the second half made a big difference

Good to see JL on the bench for a change ( did they even have a coaches box )

The Banfield turn around goal sums up the club , we write them off for 90% of the time then they just do enough to keep us coming back

I’m only going to watch the second half on replay 😁

Yeh they get out marked alot 1 on 1 or give away frees. Good interceptors. Can be slow releasing the ball

Something is definitely up with him. One memerable moment was at one point about 50m from goals he went to get the ground ball and was literally just pushed off it from the side and they ran away with it.

Another just outside centre square Serong was blocking so Brayshaw could pickup the ball and he just stood there, Serong got frustrated and picked it up but was already being tackled so the disposal was poor, just chucked it out.
JL said few days ago that Brayshaw has been playing through injury, but showing glimpses of better form. Didn't elaborate on injury.

Darcy was good but he was bullying a 2nd gamer. I do think he needs to do more when as a target kicking out or down the line. Gets out marked alot

Most noticeable was how fumbly he has been. Poor disposal by foot is nothing new for him. Getting pushed off the ball, may need up the s&c

Nah, you're right as well, he's a shadow of himself which is frustrating because Caleb is playing out of his skin right now and we need both firing on all cylinders. Brayshaw is playing poorly for Player MVP standards.

I wonder if he's not still getting over that Covid from pre-season

JL mentioned during the week that Brayshaw is carrying a niggle.

edit- SiempreFreo beat me to it

At the game, so had a poor advantage point at times. I just noticed too many marks.

Swallow looked to out mark Clark a few times.
Ryan got out marked a few times, did not adjust to wind.
King will always mark a few
Cox did the same.

I think the big issue, is that sides are doing small kicks, preventing us from sitting back and force us to defend 1v1.

Htf did the stealth jersey sell out.

I didn't realise how bad it looked until the match.

We are the purple haze. Not the rubbish guernsey that was dished out tonight.
Yeah I thought it looked crap too. Needs more contrast at least, so make the purple brighter so we can actually see it.
From a distance it could've been Carlton until you saw the front.

I love the stealth jumper. But I like dark, simple designs especially for supporter merch.

I’m quite sensitive to colors. I could never wear the old red, green, white stuff. I was relieved when we went purple & white. The old stuff made me cringe. Like have an actual physical reaction.

Even most of the purple in the current merch is too light for me.

In all seriousness even if I didn’t think of the Eagles as the armies of satan I could never wear a top with their shade of blue & ochre. It would make me want to vomit, seriously.
I remember at one point they changed their jumper to a navy blue which I really liked but apparently their members hated it. I was gobsmacked to realize people actually liked their colors.

I loved growing up playing for Swanbourne/Claremont. We wore the proper shade of Navy Blue & Gold

I would wear merch with the stealth jumper colors.

Did you see more signs of life or progression today?
Definitely. We just have to keep making it happen. We coughed up some goals tonight by being more proactive with our positioning and trying to attack the ball first and I’m willing to cop that. It’s way better doing it that way than being reactive and getting led to the ball. I thought we held firm and as the game went on some of our backs just attacked the footy first instead of getting led to the footy. Luke Ryan looked like a full forward coming out and marking the ball on a lead. Brennan Cox got back to some of his better footy by being more proactive and assertive in the contest and Pearcy probably had one of his better games for the year as well. There’s plenty to build on but we have to keep doing the hard work and go again.

I missed the first half as I was still at work and in a meeting, but I kept track of the score on the AFL app and read some of the quality melts here. In the end I'm glad I bit the bullet and watched the second half.

How lucky are we to have Serong? He's been fantastic this year and has refused to lay down when things continue to be dire. He might not win a Brownlow, but I have no doubt that he will eclipse Lachie Neale's career given his current trajectory.

Amiss is absolute quality. For him to be performing the way he is, as a key forward, at both his age and level of experience, is nothing short of staggering. It is encumbent on the club to surround him with a functioning forward line, because he's a huge part of our future and will be our next great key forward.

Michael Walters, take a bow. Given the general age and experience of our team at the moment, I think he's our most important player. He's holding our forward line together and leading by example with his performances, all whilst having to deal with racist trolls.

There were a number of negatives including Switta's injury, but for me, today confirmed that JOM is a bust. Brodie turned the game on its head after he came on and should be well ahead of JOM in the pecking order. We just can't afford to play them both in the same team given their low time on ground numbers. Ultimately, Brodie is the better player; plain and simple. He's younger and has more growth in him, he's a bigger frame, he's cleaner in the contest, he can break away from the contest with that burst of speed and, in my humble opinion, he's much more dynamic.

The win was great, but it means nothing if we regress again next week against the Dogs.

Go Freo.

Go Freo.
Neale in his fourth year was putting up good numbers but was also inconsistent and would have a number of games throughout the year in the 15-20s. Probably most similar to serongs second year. Serong well ahead of Neale at this stage. What a player.

The other main issue from the game is when is Cox going to accept he is going bald and either get a toupee or just shave it off.

Make a decision Brennan on your hair just like you a taking a mark in the D50.
I mention this to my family basically every game. I can’t stand balding players who refuse to accept it.
