What happened to Heritage round?

And, not heritage related, but here's a mock up and afakeleak of the silver guernsey we'll be wearing in round 21 (with the black/white swapped on the chevron, that was a careless mistake on my behalf)

wait what? where did you hear we would wear this? i hope it's real

It's been discussed on the Footy Jumpers before, and basically it came down to money. Anyway, here are my ideas for a potential heritage round.

Heritage Round Ideas for 2013:

All of these are pretty much spot on in regard to their correctness and accuracy, except for Geelong, where I've added some hoops to the red. All of them have 70's/80's style collars, because they are cool. There may be one or two errors in regards to sponsors and stuff, but whatevs.

Carlton (1909 monogram) v Collingwood (1976-80 home)

Port Adelaide (SANFL 1956. If Collingwood get all pissy, then maybe the 1997 first home jumper would suffice) v Adelaide (copy of their 2005 heritage. Would have preferred to have used a proper one, but they don't have much history to choose from. Not a dig at them, but they genuinely haven't changed guernsey since inception)

Essendon (VFA 1875 jumper. That's right, they haven't always worn black and red.) v Richmond (VFA 1902)

Brisbane (Fitzroy's first VFL jumper 1897) v Sydney (South Melbourne's first VFL jumper 1897)

For the record this is my favourite match up, due to both (sort of, don't get all technical) being relocated Vic teams wearing their very first jumpers, so it's essentially what Fitzroy and SM would have worn against each other)

Melbourne (1897 first VFL jumper) v Footscray (VFA 1898 - Footscray won the VFA Premiership in each year this was worn)

Gold Coast (Southport's jumper) v Greater Western Sydney (their TAC cup jumper in 2010)

Geelong (1859 jumper. Very old. Was actually plain red, but I decided to add some light hoops so that it wasn't dead boring. Also added a sublimated belt to the shorts lol) v Hawthorn (1933 home jumper. Could have put a monogram on there as well, maybe.)

Fremantle (first home jumper, 1995) v West Coast (first home jumper, 1987)

St Kilda (1919 jumper) v North Melbourne (1909 VFA jumper)

The old jumpers were better.

Can they play in these every week!

does anyone know if the heritage is dead for good. would love for the afl to bring it back (maybe around june).

Oh yeah, and for what it's worth, Port Adelaide are wearing the prison-bar design in R23 v Carlton

for hell's sake, not again? That was a terrible clash last time. Hope Carlton are wearing their normal navy this time (still a bit of a clash imo) or the baby blue and not their white guernsey.

Thread is from 2013, man

Football Heritage round had to make way for Multicultural, Homosexual, Green Awareness, Global Warming and Hairy Nose Wombat rounds.

Surely we need an Adam Goodes round to tick a number of those boxes and a few more?

What about indigenous round then?
Is also racist cos it highlights the different groups as being non white. Did I do it right?

In all seriousness, there were some non rivalry games matched up as you can't find 8 matches (now 9) of rivals. There were some left over games and there was focus on team A v B being questioned to what rivalry.

They really should have merged the 2, and focused on different rivalries, such as wce and Sydney, the lions and collingwood, hawthorn and melbourne as an example
It would have added to the fixtures, and left other big games for othe rounds
I wouldn't mind the idea of merging the 2 . I think the "alternate rivalry " thing would have worked better before gws/Gold Coast were introduced but now , every mon-vic club has an obvious rival (rather than a forced one like perhaps Syd and Bris were ), and vic clubs have always had multiple rivals , so it should be reintroduced!

Maybe we could call it the "We're white and feel guilty about our history so we'll honour you in a round of football matches where you do dances we don't understand and pretend to enjoy them round."

My stock answer to anyone wondering why there isn't "white heterosexual male" round is that EVERY round is "white heterosexual male" round. Does it really hurt that much to celebrate the non-majority for one or two games out of twenty four?

Heritage round is a bit unfair because certain clubs like Gold Coast, GWS and Port Adelaide have no real history and haven't been around for very long.
