What I love about BigFooty.

I'm interested to hear what users really love about BigFooty. Positive things, things that change your life or just make your day better or easier.

Keep it real and share honestly.

Have things you hate about BigFooty? Don't worry, there's a thread for that too :)

I enjoy intelligent debate about footy-related issues. I enjoy reading views from other people, especially those in other parts of Australia. I enjoy putting in my 2 cents as a (now-expat) NSW-based Sydney Swans & AFL fan so that people understand the intricacies of what the Swans & AFL are faced with in Sydney.

There is a lot I dislike about Bigfooty too. But I'll keep that for another 60 seconds! ;)

I see this place as one giant social experiment. It makes watching random AFL games between two teams enjoyable because I like to see the fallout on BF. I like it when I can predict certain threads that will be created based on what I see.

Good Fun.

BF is overwhelmingly a man's world; as a woman I appreciate the opportunity to observe mostly male interaction. Not always edifying, but always fascinating.

Oh, I totally agree with that. Sometimes it's downright disgusting, but it's eye-opening to say the least. My main Internet hang-out is predominately females with a similar mindset and age group to myself, and it's nice being reminded that not everyone is like me, every so often.

I also love the range of boards here, if I was a guy, I don't think I'd need to go anywhere else.

I'm not sure about the colour scheme, but it *is* easy to read and the font is very clear and easy to read. I like that there are no massive avatars and stupidly flashy signatures.

And obviously I like all the AFL discussion. When it's in season.

For stories on footy there is no better place. If an important story appears in the mainstream media, it's almost certain to have a link posted here. To get my footy fix, I don't have to go anywhere else. This is especially important if you're a Brisbane supporter living in Melbourne. The people on the Brisbane Board are virtually the only source of information about what's going on around the club.

Like so many others, I discovered this site through working in an execrably boring job. Now I've changed jobs, I don't get on here as much. Waits for cheers.

The thing I like most about the site is that IMHO, the views expressed exactly mirror those held in the broader society. If John Howard had been a BF member he'd still be PM. He would have been in no doubt how much he was on-the-nose with the electorate, and been able to alter his message. So, it's a good thing that the runt was banned by Chief for racist and inflammatory posts back in 1998. If you want to find out what Australia thinks, read BF. In conclusion, I'd like to apologise in advance to anyone who finds it depressing when they realise what Australians really think.

Edit: I forgot to say that this site also reflects perfectly the conversation in the pub or on the train home, after a match. As the week extends after a match is played, the discussion then perfectly represents what is being said around the water cooler or coffee machine at work. The bonus is you don't actually have to meet anyone face-to-face. That would be too hideous to contemplate.

Can someone enlighten me as to what happened?

Nicely put.

It has something for us all year around!

Footy during the footy season, SRP & TLC when the footy boards go a bit quiet. Damn there are some knowledgeable people on SR&P - I learn something every day.

Totally agree with this. Despite my occasional contributions, the level of argument and discussion in SR&P plays other sites on a break. I've been involved with sites which were high-falutin' philosophical ones. What happens is the posters know a lot about one particular subject and argue ad nauseum for their particular, restricted, narrow point-of-view.

On our (I use this term affectionately) site, there are a lot of people who know quite a bit about a lot of things, or are at least able to think issues through. Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but I find a tolerance among posters in SR&P for those less able to express themselves in 'smart' ways. Very rarely are people who genuinely want to learn, or who are trying to figure things out ridiculed.

Also, when anybody comes onto any of the boards with honesty and asks for advice with problems they are experiencing in life, the response is sympathetic. Yeh, some smarties like to take the piss, but they're quickly brought into line by those able to recognise when somebody really needs help.

Um, things I like about BigFooty. Gee that's a tough one haha.

I like the fact that there is banter from different supporters and people with just a different view on life to you. It's the main reason why I prefer this to just a single supporter base website, because they can be very one-eyed and you just can't stir enough shit without having a go at your own team. :D

Also, there are people on here who are just absolute football knowledge geniuses. I think that I know a fair bit about AFL, but some posters on here are just brilliant, if there's anything you don't know or understand, you're much better off here than somewhere like the AFL site.

I also like the Fantasy Cricket and Football boards, fantastic for just general banter and having a good time with some great (and not so great) people. The West Coast Warriors in the BFFCL are the greatest team ever created.

And it's great for footy news, if you can sift through the incorrect stories. I find about 90% of my news online, mostly here and other footy sites.

Lastly, if you don't like someone, you can't just ignore them, it's not so easy in real life, and much less awkward.

- Humour - often get a good laugh from various posters comments
- Volume of posting
- News getting broken very quickly (as soon as hits the radio)
- Reading different people's opinions on a range of topics and subjects (not just footy) - particularly those from opposition supporters (as you don't get much of an outsiders opinion in WA - most see through blue and gold glasses) and also reading about fringe/rookie/junior players performances

Good point

I dont get to go to training or see/hear about what the Suncoast lions are up to and that info I can get on bigfooty

A true BF addict must have :

A desk that faces the door so that your screens cant be seen.
A missus and kids trained in your need for privacy to do "prep work" at home.
Discipline enough to resist the temptation to throw punches at the screen.
Ability to sift through and ignore repetitive drivel and kiddy hype.
Dynamic quiescence...the ability to appear disinterested whilst setting up a numbskull for the kill.
A desire to make utter garbage sound like a sensible argument when you have no idea but have 5 mins to kill.
A need to act like a child coz it is relaxing.
Basic acrobat and tightrope skills...be able to operate without a net when mods are in a foul mood.
Be able to put agreement aside so that you can generate a frustrated reaction.
An opinion on absolutely everything.
Be 100% correct especially when u know u are wrong.
A need to act like a 10 yr old in a schoolyard.
A need to escape from reality in short bursts.

I especially love this place coz if u can ignore/sift through the drivel then it is by far the best source of entertainment and information for the footy addict.

If you sift throught the trolls, there are plenty of posters who put a lot of time and effort to provide us with information.

I like The Lions Board: Heaps of information, training reports, no fighting:thumbsu:
Cricket Board: Lots of discussion, little bit of agro, good for a laugh:thumbsu:

The Limbo Club: Very funny light hearted topics, good for a giggle:thumbsu:

Just a great site basically.:)

What I love about BigFooty is that despite the boards being based on football a topic that brings out so much passion and at times anger, there is no stupid immature board culture like 90% of boards have on the internet. Even the younger kids that post here are relatively mature and the forum as a whole has never generated into silly in-jokes and "n00b" bashing like most boards out there based on nerdier topics or even things like music. If you want an idea of what I'm talking about have a look at most comments on youtube videos especially if the video is about something of a pop culture nature.

Even the meanest trolls at bay 13 aren't as bad as some BS in 90% of all online forums, where you are expected to troll or be trolled and good balanced mature posts aren't just ignored or even flamed, instead they are responded in kind in this board.

I love the fact the post counts aren't looked at/shown and newer users aren't blasted for not discovering the site years ago.

Shut up n00b.

How right you are. Some of the YouTube comments I've seen have been one of the most immature, ignorant and stupid rubbish I've ever read on the internet. But if you really want to see something just as bad, but more numerous - I recommend the World of Warcraft boards and Off-Topic boards. They seem to have a bagillion teenage members, or just full of idiots.
