I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

We are in 2023 not 2002.

Sport science has caught up to where pick 1 is always gonna be the best player. Pick 4 is well another Denver Granger-Barass
Curtin to West Coast will be a fantastic pick by West Coast. In a few years time you will look back and admit it.

I reckon if you were the person at WC ultimately in charge of trading picks/drafting decisions (i assume that is ROB), if we did miss out on the Number 1 pick then a part of you would breathe a sigh of relief. There is almost no scenario with this pick where the person making the call comes out smelling like roses.

If you take Reid and he stays in Perth but only becomes half the player he is expected to become everybody says "Why did you waste the Number 1 pick on a spud?"

If you take Reid and he goes home in two or three years time everybody says "Why did you draft him? It was always obvious he would go home."

If you take Reid and he stays in Perth and becomes a gun then everybody says they always knew that would happen and you don't really deserve any credit for making an obvious decision of what to do with the pick when anybody in your position would have made the same call.

If you don't take him and he stays in Melbourne and becomes a gun and a household name everybody says for the next 10 years "Why didn't you draft him?".

If you don't take him and he stays in Melbourne and becomes a spud then by the time everybody realises he is nowhere near as good as expected then people just stop talking about him, gradually forget about him and nobody remembers you dodged the bullet by making a good decision the majority of people disagreed with at the time.

What to do with that Number 1 pick (if we get it) is a decision that nobody would really want the responsibility of making.
Played out like that for hodge for a long time.

We've won about 9% of our last 45 odd games

1/14 for each one seems right on the money

Think you'd lose if you were risking your own money on that. We at least won a game two weeks ago, albeit against poor opposition, and last week ran a much less crud side to within a point, and arguably should have won.

As bad as we've been the recent form is lightyears away from where we have been the majority of the last 2 years.

I'd lose if I were betting on us getting the spoon (I never bet on WC so moot point)?

But the bookies definitely don't think so

If you are going to invoke bookies as an authority then yeah I don't think they would give you $14 for us to win in any of our next 3 games.

I don't know what you're talking about with the spoon because that has literally nothing to do with what I said.

I may have misinterpreted your original post, but I was just saying that we've won about 9% of our last 45 games. It's probably far to say we are around a 9% chance of winning any of our remaining 3 (45 is a fair sample size I'd have thought)

In terms of the bookies, to "win" the spoon we'd have to lose all 3 of our remaining games. We're 1.25 to win the spoon meaning we're given very little chance to win any of our games. The odds are firmly swinging one way

Yeah you did. Using 45 games as a sample size is ridiculous too. Otherwise we may as well expect Freo to win 3/4 of their games. Recent form is a better predictor of the future then our 45th most recent game, and most of the ones newer than that too.

If you really think we are <10% chance of winning in each of our remaining games then I don't know what to say other than I strongly disagree.

Mind you, I think seeing as we have sucked so hard and for so long we may as well finish the job properly and secure Harley Reid, so I'm arguing against what I'd like to see happen (barring North doing us a favour and winning a game or two).

Anyone at all still thinking we don't have 2 hands firmly on the spoon?

Might aswell be $1.01

Winnable game against the Dogs said Jon Ralph.

Sounds like some posters on here

Feeling a little less cocksure today I'm guessing, amazingjoshy ?

Well done Eagles, character building win. You don't need pick 1, pick 1's never win premierships.
Shots fired.

NM will get him with their McKay free agency compo pick.
Don't believe North will be getting top band 1 compo now. AFL will be relieved by that result as it makes their decision to give them end of round 1 compo easier especially considering they will also get that NGA kid.

Anyway, I'll depart your board, thanks for letting me post. Fantastic win today be proud of the club.

Flipside; North will now finish bottom of the ladder 3 years in a row.

AFL absolutely cannot ignore the need for premium draft assistance anymore.

All those 'but North have improved!' stuff is gone.
