What's going on with Carlton's list

Carltons flag window is open right now. Honestly their list is average! Anyone think they can win a flag when Judd is past his prime or soon after he retires? Waite is your only decent key forward and there isn't much after him. Jamison and Henderson are okay but who else steps in as a KPD when one of them goes down?

I don't understand how you can say their flag window is open and then say their list is average

I would argue that their list is very average, and that they never had a flag window in the first place.

Some quality posting going on here

Its quite evident a lot of you don't follow games very closely, a lot of the "big" names thrown around whilst non spotlight players are forgotten

Eagles have one defender in the wings Brown - which is why they wouldn't trade him
Collingwood have no one of relevance outside their 22, paine the possible exception

If Jamison Waite and Henderson all have full or close to full seasons... Then watch out

We'll see how the shoe fits when its on the other foot when god forbid glass (wce) or brown (coll) go down

Not to mention the lack of talls up forward in reserves
Casboult/Hampson (two players playing for the one spot one is bound to be a reserve) are leagues ahead of the likes of Witts and that tall eagles player who played a game this year his name escapes me

Without lynch eagles are exposed in fwd depth
Without dawes colliingwood are still exposed in fwd dept

You could say the same thing about every side.

Collingwood without Jolly.
WC without Cox, Kerr and Glass.
Richmond with Maric and Rance who are their only competitive ruckman and defender. Plus Newman, Tuck and Foley who aren't kids.
Hawthorn without Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Burgoyne and now Lake.
Essendon still have only have one pure and A grade mid in Watson. With him down, they were always smashed and exposed for midfield class.
Geelong went backwards last year.

I guess Carlton are the exception to the rule.

Except Waite and Jamo are seemingly always injured.

Your argument for why Carlton bat as deep as Hawthorn and West Coast only managed to prove that they don't.

Geelong went backwards last year.

Until they added McIntosh, Caddy and Rivers.

Look, Carlton are a good side, but they have some competition, and losing Judd will make a difference. Hawthorn lost Hodge for most of the year and still managed to cope. Geelong lost Ablett and still managed to make finals twice in a row.

Brown missed a decent portion of the early season, as did Reid. We had the depth to be able to bring in Keefe as the number one defender who did a fantastic job right until he did his knee. Since you don't seem to follow games very closely I'll give you a description of him. He is about 10 cm taller than Henderson, he is 5 yards faster than him, he kicks better than him on both feet and he has a much much bigger ticker than him :D

The point still stands. Clubs with stronger cultures don't rely on injuries as an excuse for a poor season. They get on with the job and deal with it. West Coast and Collingwood finished 4th and 5th whereas Carlton couldn't make the 8 and failed to beat Port or GC. If Carlton supporter truly believe their playing list is a par with the top sides in the comp, and good enough to compete for a flag, then they also have to admit that there is a serious cultural problem at that club.

Yeah this thread is still utter crap anybody who suggested players such as Dawes who got towelled up by a first year depth player in Mcinnes and Lynch who had to be subbed off against us would improve our list are all kinds of stupid. My only major concern was how we didn't manage to smash Collingwood by 10 goals due to poor accuracy in our 2nd game against game because that margin would have reflected how badly we dominated your defense, midfield and forward line. Honestly Collingwood trolling is even more tiresome considering how badly we beat you guys this year. Although Buckley sure was nice in ending a few Collingwood hoodoos to bring you guys back to the pack while still managing to seem competent by piggybacking off the few remaining hoodoos that Malthouse managed to create over most teams in the competition. Guess we are pretty happy with our new head coach who you only have to see the state that he left Collingwood in to appreciate how exciting it is to have him as our new coach. The fact that he managed to win a flag with Collingwood is even better due to history showing only champion coaches like Leigh Matthews and himself are capable of performing such a feat.

Keefe is so hard at it he can't play in the ruck despite being taller than about 90% of all ruckman in the league. What a warrior. Can't compete with anyone his own size. Will be exposed for lack of agility playing as a key defender on smaller opponents especially with dodgy knees.

The one consistent thing that comes through any discussions Carlton is that the better informed rival posters understand the scope of the list and the issues we had with injury this year.

The others just don't and it's got to pointless levels of repeatedly trying to highlight the "facts" as opposed to the correcting the ill-informed "assumptions"

Hahahaha. Yeah ... had nothing to do with half the list being unavailable

More poignantly, when the list had a reasonable injury load, they were a whiff of the preliminary final.

They haven't proven themselves against Top 4 sides even with a full list. Also, performances against Port Adelaide and StKilda when they still had a good side just showed up their inconsistency. This is why they never won 5 in a row under Ratten.

So you signed him.

We actually have a very large amount of depth heading into 2013. The problem is a lot of it is of an untried quality. But every gun player has a break out year.

Very happy with Casboult, Mitchell, Hampson and Rowe as forward options behind Waite. Most lists don't have 5 key forwards all well into their development cycle to call upon.

If Waite can play most games and one of the others step up and kick 30 we're looking 20x better in the forward line.

Until they added McIntosh, Caddy and Rivers.

That won't be the difference between Geelong having a good year or not.

Geelong can win the flag if their older players dig deep again for one last hurrah. Their youngsters are impressive but not good enough to win a flag yet without support from the proven champions.

Collingwood 2012. Crapload of injuries. Show some heart, finish top 4, decent finals campaign.

WCE 2012. Crapload of injuries. Show some heart, finish 5th, decent finals campaign.

Carlton 2012. Crapload of injuries. Show no heart, finish out of top 8, no finals.

That's the difference. Carlton supporters arguing this point are showing their ignorance.

I'm not saying the list is bad. It's not. It's the heart of the depth that's poor.

Thanks for the laugh you guys had a couple of good players go down, we had ever single forward we have go down and all our back men and half our midfield, at one stage we played our vfl side that includes rookies. WC did do well, dont compare your small amount of injury's to Carlton s or you you will come of looking the fool.

To late for that i guess but keep it in mind champ.
