Open Mike got me thinking about this and how much he achieved.

Always seems the Hird / Voss / Buckley trio is spoken of, does this guy belong squarely alongside them?

We’ll all have thoughts on how we rank those three, but when I think of what I saw of him he seemed to play in a similar manner to Voss. Do people rate him alongside any of Hird, Buckley or Voss?

Personally I have Hird on top (bias, whatever, just my opinion), Buckley next, then Voss about an inch under, I don’t reckon Ricciuto is too far behind him, if at all.

Been done to death im sure but for me

Voss/Hird are slightly ahead of Ricciuto/Buckley.

Ricciuto gets nowhere near the credit he deserves.

Agree with that.

Know the other three have been done to death, more interested in Ricciuto. Just hard to say where you rate him in comparison without rating the other three.

Each won 1 Brownlow. Ricciuto was 9 times AA, Buckley 7, Voss and Hird 5.

Although that could be due to playing 300+ games. Also just checked, all played the same number of seasons, 15, except Hird played 16.

Get a very small blanket and throw it over all of them.

great player but listening to him speak, I have to mentally dumb myself down, like hanging out with 18 year olds that are into CoD and doing nos

Didn’t get that at all from the interview, enjoyed it, very straight down the line, calls a spade a spade. Robert Shaw was an average coach, he went out of the field to hurt people, etc etc...

They touched a bit on his business interests, he’s obviously no nuffy, that’s for sure.

Don't let his country accent and relaxed manner fool you. He is straight to the point and doesn't mince words when serious, but can have a laugh too. He's usually pretty spot on with his evaluations.

This maybe hijacking the thread, but Brad Johnson's career was underrated as well.

6 times All Australian, All Australian captain in 2006.

Didnt win a brownlow or premiership medallion, which understandably puts him outside of the best of the 90's to mid 2000's group.

But at his best, wasn't too far behind this group IMHO.

I agree with Sheahan, he's the most decorated Crows player of all time, just in front of McLeod. His achievements speak for themselves. He fairly and squarely deserves to be mentioned in the same breadth as Hird, Voss and Buckley.
