Keeping away from the absolute best players and leaning more towards players who are the best at a role we need to fill:

Josh Kennedy (Syd): We struggle at the clearances, Josh is one of the best players around in clearance situations. Also contributes on the scoreboard, which all of our midfielders not named Brad Ebert struggle with.

Brent Stanton (Ess): We also struggle on the spread, which leads to stagnant movement. Stanton runs harder than anyone and would make a huge difference to our midfield.

Jarryd Roughead (Haw): We need a forward who can rotate into the ruck, and Daniel Stewart doesn't look like he's up to it. Roughead is arguably the best forward who can rotate into the ruck in the competition. Mitch Clark would be another good option, but he struggled when asked to rotate between the roles at Brisbane, so I'd stick with the safer option.

Sam Butler (WCE): Not the best option for his position, but I went with him because he's a South Australian free agent who's spent time in the WAFL this season, so he might be a viable option for Port. Sam plays deep in defence, can defend well and can also rebound, something we've struggled with out of defence which has forced us to play Pearce and Hartlett out of position. If I had gone with the best option rather than a semi-realistic option, I would've said Grant Birchall.

Todd Goldstein (NM): Todd thrives as a No. 1 ruck who gets the majority of gametime. He's wasted in a partnership with McIntosh. Port need a No. 1 ruck, and Todd would do well rotating with someone like Roughead as he did rotating with Petrie last year rather than rotating with another player who's best position is in the ruck.

If Renouf continues in the same vein as he has in the last couple of weeks with 40+ hitouts, we may not need another ruckman. If that happens, I pick Fyfe instead of Goldstein. No specific justification for this, I just think he's awesome.

...mmm...Cassisi

You can have him.

Nat Fyfe- Gun, 10 year ahead of him, future brownlow medallist
Chris Yarran- Would be missing link in out backline, Leon Davis replacement
Lance Franklin- Freak, him and Cloke in same forward line, wow.
Lenny Hayes- In and under specialist
Dean Cox- Still the best ruckman, despite lack of game time.

Top 5 young guns i would take to build around would be;

Nat Fyfe- see above
Jeremy Cameron- Looks like an absolute gun
Trent Cotchin- Machine
Chris Yarran- see above
Nick Naitanui- Will be the best for 10 years
