Which club do you want to draft Luke Ball?

I want Brisbane to pick him up with the pick 27 we gave them. That way we know our old draft pick went to good use and denied Collingwood Luke Ball....hehehehehe!
That's diabolical and sadistic. I love it.

I doubt they could. It would be very difficult to prove he was not executing the contract properly. An effort clause? It would more be about wasting money on players that seeking damages.

Easy to prove if he is not training.

The AFL has also put a message out there:

Clubs have been reminded that any player who refuses to honour a contract must stand out of football for 23 months before being allowed re-entry.

Yeah I wonder who that media release was aimed at......

Now I hope he does go to Collonwood, and I want them to pay him 500k.

Then we'll see who grabbed the raw end of the prawn.

Ball likely to become a Demon - whether he likes it or not

Brent Diamond | November 22, 2009

MELBOURNE has declared that it would take former St Kilda midfielder Luke Ball with pick 11 or 18 in Thursday's AFL national draft whether he likes it or not.

Ballsy, i like.

I don't think Melbourne will use 11 on him, i think it's just a lure for clubs who do have a pick in that range, ie Port to prematurely pull the trigger. If that happens, a quality kid will slip down to 18.

But really if Melbourne were smart, they would've told him in the days leading up to the draft nominations that they will take him with 11 anyway. So by him nominating for the ND is just hampering the club he'll eventually be captain of.
Although Ball wouldn't have anyway of knowing that since he acted like a complete and utter arse and refused phone calls. Meh, Ball to Melbourne was the best possible scenario.

good news, i don't mind melbourne as a club and with them being shit there's not much chance of him coming back and hurting us. poor bloke will still have to play with vfl standard teammates though lol!

no way will melbourne take ball with pick 11
scully, trengove & either talia, black, butcher will be the first 3 picks
even with pick 18 its still 50-50 they need a ruckman & vardy seems to be the preffered option.
i think its just a ploy to get another team to pull the trigger early so a certain youngster may fall through (perhaps butcher)

could melbourne bluff essendon pick 10 or port pick 8 & 9 perhaps into taking ball so they get there man !!
personally i think melbourne will select

1. scully
2. trengove
11. black/talia
18. vardy

they would be crazy to select ball. great young group coming on and the opportunity to add to it with another 4 quality youngsters.
complete the rebuild melbourne & dont get tempted by players that offer far less.

That's all well and good, but that has nothing to do with us and would be better on the mainboard instead of here I would think.

It's interesting to see who has a pick between 11 and 18 -

Carlton
Adelaide
Sydney
Doggies
Port
Geelong

If the Dees are really interested in Ball, they could be worried about these teams. Carlton, the Doggies and Geelong are the teams which see their "premiership window" open and who may consider it worth taking an experienced gun in a weak draft. Sydney is not within coo-ee of a premiership, but they'll take anyone, as will Port.

So the Dees could easily get spooked at the thought of one of these teams going for Ball (esp if their preferred picks have already been taken) and just go for him at 11.

We could NOT afford him and that is not our area of need. Pies would benefit from him more than most IMO. We have a few similar players in Selwood, Bartel, Corey, Kelly

The hell would we pay him with?

I like Ball and wish him all the best, but even I would not dare to liken him to a Selwood, Bartel or even Corey...

I'm hoping Ball goes to Melbourne. The Dees are pretty much my second team and I would hate to see him running around for Collingwood, Essendon or Port. Melbourne are also less likely to be a genuine premiership threat in the next few years, even with Ball.

Would still have my money on Collingwood picking him up though. Ball wants to go there and it sounds like the Pies are doing a bit of wheeling & dealing behind the scenes to get him there. Still hard to believe that we are losing a quality player for nothing, hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us.

Ball is no longer a quality player and Collingwood arent being smart, using all of their early picks on a 28 year old and a 26 year old.
because our list is so old already?

Im not quite following your line of thought here

Yeah but we didnt give up a first round pick for King did we....?

Regardless I reckon pick 14 for Jolly was win-win.

Sadly I think Ball will end up at Collingwood. I reckon everyone else is just trying to make other teams jump the gun...No one wants a player at their club who doesn't want to be there.

Ball will be 26 in May, and Jolly turns 29 next year. I would have thought that drafting three 18 year olds with those first and second round picks was a smarter way to go.
As far as Kingy goes, we gave away pick 90 which was never going to be used by either us or Geelong, he was a freebie.
