Ok, so we have been shown up big time by last years premiers so here comes the dilemma in my view, does Chris Scott and his coaching staff put it behind them and look forward to next week, all the while bringing back some older heads via Mackie & McIntosh or does he now use this year as a terrific opportunity to pump games into the future brigade in order to fast track their development?

As it stands from today's performance, we are probably a little while away's from being a serious premiership threat, we can probably push for another top 4 spot again if we do what we did last year and get as much out of the veterans as humanly possible but at a cost . . . lack of development into the younger players.

Don't know how anyone thought we where a flag contender. We have more gaps then swiss cheese and it seems like we've picked up right where we left off last year.

I'm going to be frank though, our team is average and has been since 2012 I think it starts with an average coach. Looking at North's similar type of inconsistencies, I wonder if either club has the right man to turn both of us into being legit flag threats.

Please don't take this as being sour because it isn't. Surely Geelong's supporter base can accept bottoming out for a season or 2 after so long at the top? Whether it be sooner or later its pretty much inevitable that you will slide for a period of time. And its not even like the old days where clubs that bottomed out went straight near the bottom of the ladder... i'm still backing you guys to be pushing for finals even at your lowest point.

Think it's time to give Hamling some games. Time to transition in the next generation of KPDs.

Thurlow is the player I would like to see play in Mackie's position when he does get back to full fitness. Thurlow has good hands and is very talented. Kolodjashnij is another that could get a look in because I'm very worried about our terrible lack of foot speed down back. Rivers, Taylor and Lonergan are just so bad below the knees.

Realistically I think most people expected to lose today. Where we must regroup is to get some wins in the next few weeks, otherwise the vultures will really set in. Hopefully having Freo and the suns at KP we still have enough of a home ground advantage to get over the line or the season is really off to a bad start.

Where to next week?

Well the fixture says KP Vs Freo.

That's where they'll be.

We were shit today. Got punched in the throat. Hawks were brilliant and everything they said they would be they were.

In fact, Id say that the 2nd best team in the comp - the Swans last year, could tell a very similiar tale. That, IMO, was the Hawks of the GF last year.
Amazing effort to repeat it 6 months later and id say its a massive shot across the bow of the competition - not just us.

If we roll over again next week the yes strap in for along one. Not saying we will win but we cant play that shit again.

Go Catters

Absolutely, and our speed of ball movement was diabolical in the back half as well. Just chipped around a few times before going to a 50/50 which most times we lost and it was straight back in there again.

First of all there is NO Premiership tilt going on here, the Cats must stop this nonsense about being contenders when it is plainly obvious they will struggle to compete with teams who are mid table let alone top 4. The reign is definitely over, they may get caught napping this year and finish bottom 4, it wouldn't surprise me one bit. Next weeks game determines the future of the Geelong Football club for this season and probably... the next.

If every team that got smashed by Hawthorn this year decided to throw the baby out with the bathwater and give up on their season, then just about every team other than Port would be doing it, because we wont be the last team they smash.

I would be waiting a month before I draw any conclusions about our long term future.

Premierships aren't won in April. ;)

It's a long road ahead for the eventual Premier. Geelong might no be in the mix for the flag this year because of the changing of the guard with younger inexperienced players outnumbering the experienced and classy 3 peat crew and not because of a Round 1 loss.
