When Carlton supporters don’t see Cunningham, Setterfield, Kennedy, LOB, Newnes, Newman, Williamson as part of their best 22 their team will be all the better for it and they will be on the way to contend.

Dow, Marchbank and Fisher not far from that list either. 2022 will be a big year for them.

You don't think Voss can improve any of them?

If someone told me that Cuningham and Marchbank would be fit enough to play week in week out once they get back - I would be pretty confident of finals in '22. Kennedy is an underrated player and has gone back on the main list after a rookie year- change of coach will suit him- was never one of Teague' favs.

Of the rest, Fisher and LoB have the most factor X talent both have been slow physical developers (natural runts) - couldn't care less if Dow/Setterfield/Newnes/Williamson were not on the list in '23 - none of them are likely to be exceptional at anything they do.

Hewett has been a great signing for Carlton - Slotted straight in - T@.

Weitering = Ridley
Walsh = Parish, coaches and players seem to love Walsh but statistically Parish was more impressive, so Ill call it even.
Cripps < Merrett
Mckay = Stringer, nothing against Mckay, I just rate Stringers year very highly, different sort of players but I think what Stringer does in the middle makes up the difference in goals and contested marks.
Curnow = Tippa, Curnow has barely played so I dont think he really belongs in this discussion but last time he was playing consistently he averaged 1.7 goals a game which was Tippas average last year.

I could make a good argument more in Essendons favour on most of these but my points not that Essendons players are better, its that its absurd to say they dont even come close when clearly it is very close.

Oh for a Windy Hill or even a Princes Park for these sides to defend.

Carlton definitely look better on paper - but that Essendon group is worth persisting with, and are not without a chance of surpassing their Blues counterparts in 2022; Draper and Jones have all kinds of leadership and upside to their games.

I don't think either side will win a flag in the next 2-3 years though, which is hardly a big prediction.
