The Agency

Episode 1 was fantastic. Gripping. Fassbender is amazing. Hooked immediately.

Episode 2 almost lost me completely. Convoluted. Russia/Ukraine stuff extremely hard to follow. Feeling very meh about it after being excited after episode 1.

I’m gonna persist. Spy/CIA shows are not usually my forte but this one has a Fincher aesthetic that I like and I can read up episode summaries afterwards to fill in the stuff that doesn’t make sense.

I’ve also heard Jackal and Lioness are great too. Paramount+ is cooking right now.

EDIT: Jackal isn’t on P+ but my point still stands.

Contemplating another Curb re-watch as it has been ages since I last watched it. I still don't own the final season in some form (usually at least get the dvd) - ultimate irony is that it's now coming up via a search on JB Hifi and has been available since October.... whoops lol. Have searched it in recent weeks and only the "complete series set: (that's not out yet) would pop up.

Now I've collected the series in various forms over the years mid 2000's buying CYE 1 - 5, then years later I did get the complete 1 - 8 series set and got 9, 10 and 11 not long after their airing and dvd release. Just been slacking with acquiring season 12 :p.

Right

Well it’s 2024 and you should Google “streaming services Australia” and learn about them

Gear grinder - I don't know what they are doing on the internet tv service but the Baywatch channel has been out of whack for a few weeks - they usually would play every episode of all seasons back to back (unless they do a special event like all of the christmas episodes run back to back during "christmas in july") but in recent weeks they've been skipping entire seasons and going back to episode 1 faster. ANNOYING I TELLS YA

Physical media is still king

Oh and (I mentioned it on here when I did my last CYE marathon) I actually started watching it via my own collection (ripped to the hard drive) but I did more than half of the rest of the marathon on BINGE because I got lazy lol. And I commented how viewing it on BINGE was wayyyyyyyy different to the dvds (and thus the rips on my hard drive) as the BINGE version felt like I was watching it on FTA tv instead (felt like certain scene transitions were place holders for commercial breaks.... even though there were no commercial breaks)

No it isn't.

Physical media is King?

IT IS

streaming is a convenient way to watch content, but the quality is not that great. When something is listed at 4K..... it's only by a technicality. The actual bit rate of said content is borderline bluray quality.

It's like watching a VHS thinking its HD, when it's not!

Okay

The only downside to streaming is you aren’t guaranteed a show will always be on their due to licensing. Seinfeld contract for example may only be with Netflix until 2027 and then it disappears for a while and maybe be picked up by Prime.

Seinfeld on BluRay and 4K were released yesterday, so at least we don’t need to rely on streaming anymore.

Ok I have just put on Avatar

I get it now 👌👍

You are correct in that a great deal of people aren't fussy and will watch things in streaming quality and not care. But like you when you see what things should be like you can tell there is a difference :).

I was sceptical once - was happy with just dvd versions of movies (still infinitely watchable on 55"+ TV screens. But then I saved a bluray of one of my favourite movies and saw how things can look on bluray. At that point I only had a few bluray titles (purchased wayyyy back during the ps3 era). Then I just went nuts and expanded my bluray collection. And then I discovered 4K and my mind was blown again :p

You also buy the same game in multiple different formats and versions. It must be a costly life.

I happen to budget very well in order to live the video game/dvd/bluray/4k hoarder lifestyle :p
People spend their money on sex workers, drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling etc.... gaming and movie + tv series collecting makes me one happy camper.

I added up how much I spent during the PS3/360 (mid 2000's up to the mid 2010's) along with dvds AND did post it on here at one stage, nobody believed me :(. That said not all of my gaming (or even dvd/bluray/4K) purchases were at full RRP. I've purchased many titles very cheap as well.
