I find it hard to get a sense of how much influence Roo has.

Officially, it's just a volunteer role, a few hours a week.

But he's a big personality. There's every chance he's influencing things a lot more through some subtle pressures.

He’s designated footy director, chairs list management committee, chairs football strategy committee and is involved in selecting senior coaches. His influence on overall direction, strategy and philosophies is extremely strong. Day to day, he’d do next to nothing, but his influence on who we have in place and how we go about it can’t be underestimated.

‘Kels and I knew he was the right choice when he agreed with all of our philosophies on selection, list management and game strategy.’

In addition, I reckon we might have to let D.Burgess (& his Scottish tackling specialist) go.
He's potentially being paid as much as the head coach ( & maybe why our coaching panel is running so lean ) but in his 4th year, I'm just not seeing any tangible results.

Any chance we could get teague back as our forward line coach...he was very good at it here last time
Walshy brought him over from memory along with Darren Glass. Two people who Walshy had huge respect for. Teague would have been our coach after Walshy. Walshy admitted right at the start that he was at the end of his coaching career and wanted to help develop the next long term coach. Think that would have been teague

Agree. If he prevents us from getting who we need, let him go.

Don't know anyone who would go near the Adelaide job, with the board, director and list management team we have. So we can employ a human sacrifice for a few years, I would prefer for the sake of the next coach, to allow this debacle to continue until we get closer to the move to Thebarton, which can't come quick enough for Adelaide, however in the meantime a complete change of the board, and the process for it's formation, will be the only way forward, for what is now a complete debacle. Adelaide are now an irrelevancy in the AFL due to ingrained incompetence throughout, ultimately, when this board, list management team and director are moved on, Adelaide can move forward. The coaching appointment needs to be linked with the power, to bring their own people. It is sickening to watch a bunch of good, white boys many who lack the talent to play AFL, wandering along with a coach who spends his life pandering to them, and 'not making excuses' about his and the group's incompetence. Telling people to pack their bags if they don't want to defend - hello mate, you are responsible for that bit. They have no ability to move a ball from A to B, with any flow. The saving grace is watching Taylor Walker, Rankine and Dawson play, the Rachele situation is very sad. A little, over indulged hero, who has no idea about team. Culturally, creating an environment that can finish the 'go home' factor will be ultimately a key factor in Adelaide's success.

He’s a wildly overated commodity.

Very hard to go past Buckley as being both the most able man without a current gig.

Also has the credibility at least by way of playing career and proximity to success to ride over anything or anyone who he determines is unsatisfactory.

Ultimately it's a question of whether you turn the club over to a Buckley dictatorship.

In my view yes, things have gotten that bleak.

I'd take Buckley, but also wouldn't be shattered if we didn't get him. I'm almost certain he will ride his media $ for a couple more years and then take the Tas gig.

At a glance, without knowing much, i'd take
Caracalla, Cox, or Ash Hansen

Why would anyone want the tassie job?
When has the initial job with an expansion club ever been a good one?

I think he is actually very good but you need all parts of the club to be good at the same time for success. We have too many underperformers like head coach and some line coaches, head of drafting, head of football. For Burgess, he can only get them fit, its game plan, player drafting, player development etc that needs to happen and its not at tge level needed

I agree with the Port troll masquerading as a Crom supporter. No experienced coach is going touching the gig unless they allow a rebuild/hard reset - which the current board won't allow. That leaves us with first timer coaches hoping to get a crack.

It's always been a good one, no pressure to win. GWS had talent coming out of every orifice and still took them til their 5th season to make finals. GC obviously still haven't. The coaching gig after the initial one will have the pressure.

The most reliable way of getting a coach who takes your club to a premiership is getting an experienced assistant coach - who has been part of a successful club. That last part is critical. He needs to have been part of a successful system.

Look at the last ten different AFL premiership coaches:

Craig McRae - assistant coach during Richmond flags 2017, 19, 20

Chris Scott - assistant at Fremantle 2008-10, no flags

Simon Goodwin - assistant at Essendon 2010-14, no flags

Damien Hardwick - assistant during 2008 Hawthorn flag

Adam Simpson - assistant during 2013 Hawthorn flag

Luke Beveridge - assistant during 2010 Collingwood flag and Hawthorn flags 2013, 14

Alastair Clarkson - assistant during 2004 Port flag

John Longmire - assistant during 2005 Sydney flag

Mick Malthouse - existing premiership coach from West Coast flags 1992, 95. Before winning his first flag, was senior coach at Footscray 1984-89, no flags

Mark Thompson - assistant during 1999 North flag

8 of the last 10 premiership coaches had already been part of a premiership as an assistant or senior coach.

This is also how you completely talk yourself into Mark Neeld

Ben Rutten.

At Richmond from 2014 to 2018. So.part of their build to a Premiership.

Got Essendon to Finals.

Shafted because they wanted Clarko.
