I don't particularly like Owies, but am aware that you need a list of between 30 and 35 AFL level players to contend for a premiership.

Carlton have just let go a 33 goal a year forward, and their 'best clubman' who finished 10th in their best and fairest.

They're a mid table team whose list has gone backwards this off season, entering a year where their top 5 players are in their absolute prime.
You don't know that the list has gone backwards . Thats just your opinion.
Sometimes clubs need to make hard decisions in order to try and get better. Look at Adams, Grundy, treloar for example. Replaced by Daicos, Cameron, and all of a sudden the list is regenerated slightly and became a premiership team.
I still fail to see how getting rid of a few fringe players makes the list weaker. You keep referring to Carlton as middling - does not retaining those player types keep Carlton in the same territory ?

It depends on who you are replacing them with - players who couldn't get a game ahead of them in 2024 (they played 47 of a possible 48 games between them this year), or unproven 18/19 year olds?

You might also want to throw in Mitchell, McStay and Hill - all crucial players in our finals series.

Also, Adams left Collingwood AFTER we won in 2023.

You can't take out pick 3. It exists and won't be taken away.
removing marchbank, Martin and Cunningham I would have thought was a good move - agree or not ?
Tell me how Owies and Kennedy were going to improve as players also coz I'd like to really know the secret to holding onto those player types and not regenerating in any way
Well normally when a club has a major weakness in an area of the ground (small forwards) they don't go and get rid of their best asset in that area (Owies) and expect to be better. But somehow Carlton fans do🤣.

U keep making out as if Owies is irreplaceable... He's a complete spud idk wtf ur talking about? It's like when u nuffies say Cox or McSpud are big losses... They play a role but they suck

Except both Cox and McStay have played big games in big finals - something very few Carlton players have done...

Essendon couldn't beat Carlton though mate, now you're just talking rubbish.
Pretty straight forward I would have thought, give Essendon two extra gimme wins and they make finals...they dont need to beat Carlton, just North and Richmond.

It doesn't mean Essendon are a better team.

Penny might drop at some point, probably around the time you realise Carlton haven't had a 21st century top4 finish.

and if your auntie was your uncle she'd be your uncle ...

FMD you Collingwood types are thick.

Owies is a spud it's true but he was your best small forward by a mile 🤣 and your third highest goal scorer..You guys needed that spud.🤣
And it's not like you've recruited a superstar like Schultz to replace him.

Brisbane - Cameron, Lohmann, Rayner, Ah Chee, Bailey
Collingwood - Hill, Elliott, Ginnivan, McCreery
Geelong - Close, Miers, Stengle, Rohan
Melbourne - Fritsch, Pickett, Neal-Bullen

Carlton - Williams, Motlop, Durdin, Fantasia

Finals favours sides with quick, powerful and dynamic small and medium forward options that can withstand the increased speed of finals and force turnovers in the forward half. Carlton winning a premiership with their forward group would be one of the biggest trend bucks we’ve seen. Speed and pressure is king.
I agree with this, but teams have won via different modes and gamestyles over the years. Curnow and Mckay healthy is still as potent as any team has despite our subpar small forwards. A lot of responsibility left on Motlop and Durdin to get better over the off season however.

Motlop. Durdin. 🤣. 🥔. Don’t forget your prized recruit Orazio. 😜

naah your mob has managed 3 in 60 years !!!

woweeeee

We are an incredible like that because we have also won 3 in 34 years, 2 in 14 years and 1 in 13 months.

Now Carlton on the other hand
0 in 1 year
0 in 2 years
0 in 3 years
0 in 4 years
0 in 5 years

Let’s skip some
0 in 10 years
….
0 in 20 years
……
0 in 25 years
0 in 26 years
0 in 27 years
0 in 28 years
0 in 29 years

Or we could go
0 this decade
0 this century
0 this Millennium

fold the nappy as many times as you like .I was just replying in kind with some interest. Your mob of posters on here in the main -aren't even funny I'm sad to say.

All this talk about Carlton getting rid of Kennedy and Owies, you have to wonder why these players weren't picked up by the Pies ?
They made an error in not topping up with depth players it seems
Players ranked 15 to 20 for Carlton would be 30 to 35 for Collingwood.

So to add them to Collingwood's list, it would make it 0.5% better, but by Carlton trading them out, it makes your list 7.5% worse.

Remember, they were good enough to play 47 of a possible 48 games at Carlton in 2024.
