Who would we be looking to draft?

Do we want a DeBoer with inconsistent kicking?
If Deboer is a big bodied inside midfielder who can win the ball and run, then yes.

We were belted by the Roos on the weekend in contested possessions, yet you wouldn't call Rawlings, Simpson and Harris great kicks. But they can win the ball and get it out to their runners who are fast and good kicks.

DeBoer sounds like an improvement on AB which is enough for me.
Matt Deboer – 187cm, 85kg – Claremont.
Solidly built midfielder who has had two pretty good champ series. Finds a lot of the ball and is good with his clearance work and positioning. Kicks mainly on the right side and his pace is reasonably good. Is good in traffic and his work rate is good. Needs to sharpen up on his kicking as he can miss targets by foot. Good player who knows where to run and how to find the pill.
If he can improve his kicking and his decision making (as far as where he kicks the ball) he could be close to a star midfielder.
Prediction – pick 10 to 40.

I don't know if Carrazzo has ever looked as good as DeBoer in a piece of play at the end of this video when he runs fifty metres and bounces a half dozen times before kicking long.

But you've seen him play, so I can't really comment.

I'm more worried about DeBoer's commitment because he didn't nominate for last year's draft.

DeBoer has some good athletic traits. Highlights generally show the best and not the worst ;)

In '07 he played predominantly out wide running the wings. In '08 he played a slightly different role and was used more as an inside mid. He did an ok job but didn't show a whole heap of improvement over '07 for mine. At times his kicking looks in the v.good category and at times he kicks some awful floaters. If you are looking for a pure inside mid there may be better suited floating around. Shuey for VM has a big engine and high work rate but perhaps not the athleticism of DeBoer, and looks shorter than his listed 185cm. His klicking can be hit or miss too. Once you are looking outside the top 15-20 most have some deficiencies you will have to work with. I think with our list, blokes that can use the ball well the majority of the time are a must.

Owned. :D

Not really, he's worth a good look, especially with a third rounder. If his kicking was more consistent he'd have to come right into calculations. Sometimes you roll the dice with these types. Look at Foley (although his size would have gone against him as well), but sometimes it pays off.

Murray Bushrangers 2.5 5.7 8.11 11.15 (81)
Dandenong Stingrays 1.1 2.3 5.6 6.7 (43)

GOALS:
Murray Bushrangers: Ziebell 6 Rockliff 2 Wright Priest McNeil
Dandenong Stingrays: Ferraro Clark Doria Rogasch Scully Savage

BEST:
Murray Bushrangers: Ziebell Priest Klemke Wright Milne Sidebottom
Dandenong Stingrays: Scully Heddles Andrews Ferraro Hibberd Purves

Hurley or Hartlett shouldn't be ruled out for our first pick if Ziebell keeps playing like this when Hartlett is out for the year with a shoulder injury.

Will Murray make the finals in the TAC cup?

*sigh* Ziebell is perfect for us, slow down son!!. We might miss out on him now especially with Hartlett gone for the season with a shoulder. Hamish's shoulders might become like his brother Adam's hamstrings? Better hope not if we take him.

Joel Selwood was an injury risk. He is a fair player, I reckon.

Chris Judd board. ;) :)

Either of these three players would make us a better side, so I'm not fussed who we draft with pick six.

I just hope we don't trade for Kerr or Brown.

If we did find ourselves in that unfortunate predicament, would you endorse giving Hamish Adam's shoulders or giving Adam Hamish's hammies? :D

Big Bodied - No.
Inside Mid - Not really.
Win his own ball - Debatable.

Problem is, his kicking can be very poor, and we don't need anymore players who cannot kick.

Murray are up near the top of the ladder, of not on top IIRC.

DeBoer is 187 cms, why isn't he a "big bodied" midfielder like I was suggesting? ;)

I love how posters don't rate 17 and 18 year old footballers when there were similar criticisms of Grigg in profiles about being outside and not overly special at anyone thing.

Who knows how they'll develop when they get at an AFL club with a good set up and coaching?

I'd rather we draft someone lateish with intensity, talent and ability than an athlete who can't find the football or kick.

I'm guessing a club would pick DeBoer with a late second round or a third round pick in a heartbeat and not overlook him because he isn't a great kick.

You're not going to find a Gibbs late.

LOL.

Is Tom Swift worth the risk for the Blues ala Beau Muston?

We already have too many players in our team with below par footskills.....we just cant afford any more.

We could really use someone that can punch it 60 nice and flat and accurate...... please find us the next Wayne Harmes

Well, after that surprising Dockers win, it looks like both Hurley and Ziebell might be out of reach. The Dockers will get pick 4 now and with Naitanui likely to go to Port, they would be looking for the best available midfielder. Right now, after Hartlett suffered a season ending shoulder injury, i think this might have tipped the scales toward Ziebell to the Dockers. With Hurley likely to go to the Dons, this leave Hartlett and Vickery the most likely outcomes at this point in time for our pick.

Don't get me wrong, Hartlett and Vickery are very good prospects and i'd be happy to have them but i think Hurley or Ziebell would be more beneficial to our structure and our team in both the short term and long term as they are both big bodied players that are pretty much ready made AFL players.

As we know there are twists, turns and surprises in every draft but right now i feel the odds are that we will miss out of the two players that would help us the most.

If they both are out of reach, which hopefully they won't be, what are people's thought on Vickery vs Hartlett?
