Who would we be looking to draft?

How many times have you seen Hurley play live btdg??

The only speculating you'd be doing is which kid he was going to kill to get the footy next?? ;)

Hurley? Too many question marks. He's a bit slow to be a defender. Some people think he'd be a good forward, others a good full back, others good at CHB. He's in that second, speculative tier of the draft.

Completely disagree with this statement. Whilst I believe he will make it at either CHF or CHB, his speed is not an issue. If you don't believe me, do some homework, and have a look at Franklin and Roughead when they both went to DC, and look what they did for their 20m sprint.

Maybe I have a little bias, coming from the west.

Yarran in my eyes is the perfect fit for Carlton.

Here are my arguments, I'm sure people will disagree to some extent.

Carlton needs a forward and I personally think that draft selection 6 should be on the best possible forward. If we still had draft selection 24, then I may have been more willing to take a risk with selection 6 not being 100% for needs.

Yarran - He complements the forwards Carlton already have, he will be the missing link with regards to Fev, Kruezer, Fisher, Cloke and Betts. He is a proven goal kicker against Men. He can play injured, has freakish ability and speed up forward. Then as an added bonus, he will be able to move into the midfield later in his career, meaning he has more strings to his bow.
Hurley - His best position on the ground is divided between forward and back. Although he has good defensive skills, can we really afford to have Cloke + Kruezer + Hurley + Fisher in the same forward line? My thoughts are no, Cloke and Hurley would be a little too slow (Fisher no real defensive nature) and the opposition teams would place two fast rebounding defenders on them.
Ziebell - His best position in my eyes is the Midfield, although you can never have too many midfielders, our team structure could do with a forward. He would play as a third tall and we already have a few players attempting to play in that role, obviously we would hope that Ziebell could perform that task better. Once again, Ziebell still has some question marks over his effort and speed. What he does have is one amazing kick and a good set of hands.
Trengove - He could be the other dark horse, just some question marks with regards to his injury. Before the injury he was surely a top ten draft selection and was rather dominant.

Anyway, I know Yarran is not the punters choice, but personally, I think he just feels like the perfect fit for Carlton.

In the PSD who would we be looking at to maybe add some depth to our squad considering we are the youngest list in AFL. Would anyone consider Damon WHITE from Port. He can play and had a few injuries and played second fiddle to Tredrea and Thurstans. He is only 24 and would be worthwhile adding to the list.

Saw that the Saints got rid of Gardner also anyone rate him or think he would be worth a 1 yr deal. Maybe put some pressure on Harlett and co to perform and add depth in case of injuries ???

would anyone be able to tell me how many games luke shuey played through the home and away season??
i noticed he made teh TAC team of the year as starting ruck/rover, but cant have imagined him playing anymore than half the year

Thanks in advance

Are you lost ??

Totally agree Cloke may be able to pinch-hit against the lesser teams, but the stronger teams with creative defences e.g Hawthorn/Geelong will exploit him exactly as the Hawks did in the final game.
I can see the sense in this arguement, but I can't help but wonder how Cam would have gone vs Hawks if the ball was kicked to him with any sort of accuracy.

Too many times it was kicked over his head or not to his advantage..........not Cam's fault.

We as a group of supporters seem very keen to blame our "lack of forward options" but this lets our midfield off the hook to much IMO.

If we had put Scotland on Roughead, do you think the Hawks would have exploited that? Or would they have ignored roughy, Kicked to Franklinw ith Scotty zoning off........

We didn't use Cam well in that game, and when we did try to use him we butchered the footy.

Fev, although he has got better, still doesn't apply consistent pressure defensively.....does he get "exploited"? Rarely......because he gets the ball kicked to him lace out or at the very least, to his advantage more often than not.

Cam, and Fisher may be the target inside F50 1-2 times a game. We can hardly blame soley them for not kicking 2-3 goals from such opportunities.

Norman Ross' Phantom Draft

6 – Carlton Chris Yarran – Probably the most talented player in the draft, oozes class close to goal and has the ability as demonstrated by burst in the WAFL and 18’s carnival to have an impact further up the ground. Only concern in my mind is a lazy ball drop, leaves himself open to kicking helicopters. Uses his body well in marking contests and enjoys being one out in a forward line. Has a strong pair of hands and a genuine ability to read the play before his opponent. Finishing skills are second to none. Would add a bit more potency to Carlton’s forward line, yes Betts is there but he is the defensive pressure, Yarran is the offensive weapon. The perfect investment for Carlton.

40 – Carlton
- Mitch Brown – Really only has the hands and a boot. Can take a grab and kick a goal, but if he wants to make it he needs to add a lot more to his game. Fortunately for him the two things he can do are very important. Speculative pick still IMO despite his strong marking ability.

69 – Carlton
Kristian Thornton. Watch this space will steal him off Sydney who had plans to pick him up in the rookie draft.

Ziebell - His best position in my eyes is the Midfield, although you can never have too many midfielders, our team structure could do with a forward. There are no question marks on Ziebells effort, he plays very similar to Hurley for mine, in that he'd bust through a brick wall to get the footy. He puts in the effort that is for sure, the question mark is on his endurance, whether he can play through the middle for a long period of time.

Also, he might not be quick but he is far from slow, especially over 10 or so metres. I don't see any problems with his speed TBH.

Also, just to take a note, Shifter has mentioned a few times that he think Ziebells best position is across half back, playing a similar role to what Hodge does.

Bartel, hodge, black are not quick either... There is no question marks about him i reckon....

We have Justin Cordy remember

I've seen Ziebell crash through packs as a 15yo against men in the strongest country league in Victoria (ovens & murray) and come out with the ball. His effort and courage are not to be concerned about.

Where do you think they bought all the sand to make all their deserts from? ;)

Don't quote me, but I'm guessing it occurred over millions of years, due to water erosion in eras past and continued erosion by the wind.

Why would they buy the sand?

I'm pretty sure it was there long before the Arabs were.

It's the last normal draft in 3 years, good KPPs don't grow on trees and this draft has them in abundance, so I think we should take Hurley. He has been proven two years running, and can play at either end so chances are he'll make a fist of at least one of those roles. Also, it goes without saying we could probably do with one more class KPP.

Take a running type at 40.

Was some talk about Brown shooting up the rankings into the second round.

Haven't seen or heard much about him since, but sounds a likely prospect. Might slide to 40?

The more I read about Yarran, Ziebel, Hurley.........the more I become less concerned. I think we are going to be happy with however we get. We need quality players across all areas except maybe the ruck now.

We can't really lose if we take Hurley, whether he plays forward, or goes back and releases Waite in a year or so..........Ziebel will add some more class to a midfield developing into one of the best in the comp, and Yarran would add some "X" factor up front.......is there roon for more X factor in our F50 with Fev and Eddie already? :D

Any chance the draft can be brought forward a month?:D
