I think its a great step forward giving these guys a run in the seniors.

Hope that surrounding Smith with an experienced group of afl standard players will bring out skill, ability and class that have not been so evident in the VFL matches. I hope so, we need a goalkicking outside mid with some toe in the side.

As mentioned - he will probably be the sub if he makes the cut, and only play a half, so fitness should not be a problem.

Didn't Timmy Clarke play a full game for Box Hill on a Saturday and then played a full game for Hawthorn on the Sunday after we had some late withdrawals?

Fairly sure he played alright on the Sunday too.

Re: Clarkson surely is under the pump

In glad Smith and Pups are playing, but with two injuries in Cyril and Bruce we don't have all that many options.

It also seems obvious that osbourne isn't over his injuries or they are resting him for an extra week so he doesn't have to fly over

Can we PLEASE learn how to spell his name right? For f*** sake he won a Premiership for us and majority of people still cannot get it correct.

OSBORNE!

I can't remember Tim Clarke doing it, not to say that he didn't but i do remember Roughead doing it a few years ago, possibly 2007. As i remember it he was dropped on form, played for Box Hill and then came into the seniors as a late replacement. (could be mixing incidents up here but it may have been for franklin who rolled an ankle before a tassie game)

If memory serves, Roughie was a late inclusion for our win over Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in 2007, which is the last time we beat Port in Adelaide.

Ellis is probably off to the reserves, although I didn't think he had a chance to prove himself against Geelong.

Smith for Ellis
Puopolo for Bruce
Maybe Whitecross for Cyril.

I think that there is room for 3 changes.
OUT: Rioli (inj), Bruce (inj) and Ellis (omit)
IN: Puopolo, Smith, Whitecross/Osbourne

If Osbourne is right to go I think he needs to come in, his kicking at goal is much better than Whitecross. We are in need of a forward who can put the pressure on Port coming out of defence, since Rioli isnt playing we will need Burgoyne playing more time in the middle. This leaves Buddy, Roughead and Hale with Lewis and maybe Smith. I havnt seen any Box Hill games this year but was told Puopolo played as a goal sneak in his early days...any chance of him having stints down there ala Campbell Brown style. Otherwise we need either Osbourne or Whitecross to put some pressure on n rove our big guys. I think we might be a bit thin taking in:

Smith - debut
Puopolo - debut
Shiels - 22 games
Savage - 8 games
Suckling - 11 games
and
Whitecross - 30 games

So heres my side:

Suckling - Gilham - Puopolo
Birchall - Gibson - Ladson
Savage - Mitchell - Young
Lewis - Franklin - Smith
Hale - Roughead - Burgoyne

Renouf - Sewell - Hodge

Bateman - Whitecross/Osbourne - Shiels - (Guerra)

If Whitecross cant get a run soon he will be at Sydney next year and good luck to him.

Will trade for Kennedy and Benny Mc

Cyril definitely out as per Clarko interview at the airport. No other hints from the chat if there are any other changes except for Smith and Poppy for Bruce and Rioli.

Also from the airport:

In a boost for Hawthorn fans, Clarkson expects skipper Luke Hodge to be somewhere near his best for tomorrow night’s game following an interrupted start to the year.
“He’s not far away from producing his best footy, Hodgey, and we’re hoping that’s tomorrow night against Port Adelaide,” Clarkson said.

A fit Luke Hodge will make such a difference to our side. Twas horrible watching him underdone against the Cats. Reminded me of our 2010 finals appearance. Here's hoping the achilles shows some improvement over the next few rounds.

I do remember Puopolo, Smith and Schneider pl;aying very well consistently in the pre season comp.

I know that is not the same as the home and away season, but you never know until you try them out.

Gonna be right behind Smith and Pup on Friday night!!!! Best of luck to them.
