It is accurate. The Crows have publicly stated that what Lever wanted to be paid to re-sign would have made him, a 3rd year player who isn't even our best defender, the highest paid player at the club.
Uh...that didn't actually have any bearing on what I said. Or make what you said accurate...

The reports are, pretty much the same reports about Tex's anger, that Lever was extremely upset and angry with the offer.

And I don't recall saying it was funny
Interesting, funny, I misspoke

I've heard lever was upset at the initial offer of 300k and that's when he started looking. I wouldn't think that has any relationship to captain hissy fit.

AFL does appear to be behind most codes in regards to clubs / supporters reactions to player movement. In most major international sports (Soccer, NBA, NFL, Baseball etc) player trades are just part of the game, with the clubs and fans getting over it. I don't hate Jake Lever, I just hope we can secure a reasonable trade value for him, to compensate for his loss.

With the draft system, many players have no affinity to the clubs they are drafted to and some choose to seek a move sooner in their careers for a whole range of reasons.

The lieing is a massive pain in the arse for all fans. He should have been able to make his intentions clear when he knew (which sounds like early in the year). I reckon after Locky Henderson told of his intention to leave before years end was received so poorly by everyone, including the AFL commissioner, it forces the players to be dishonest.

Everyone needs to be a little more grown up about these situations.

That said, I think we'll see players being traded without their consent pretty soon, especially after this Jake Lever saga.

The lying is what annoys me. He says he wants to be a 10-15 year player for the club, yet he's leaving just 1 year beyond the minimum contact length. He has also constantly changed his story all year long about what the delay in contract negotiations was. First it was the CBA, then it was his manager being out of the country, then it was something else, then he wanted to concentrate on finals.

Then he tries to claim he's going home for family reasons, yet he told the Crows he would re-sign if Adelaide got close to Melbourne's contract. Follows this up by nominating just 1 club in Melbourne that he wants to be traded to.

If family reasons are why you want to go home then you should be fine with being traded to whatever Melbourne club gives the Crows the best deal. If you're leaving for the money that's fine. It would be difficult to turn down those sorts of dollars, but own your decision. Don't lie about it.

It's going around a fair few places

How does any sports media person know anything they claim?

I just think it's a bit unfair for a party to divulge the content of a private conversation - I doubt Tex has gone and told anyone what he said, and how do we know Lever isn't putting a whole heap of gravy on it to make him look better?

Also it's reported players have been giving him shit about leaving for months
If true that reflects very poorly on Walker, Pyke et al.
To me, Jacobs looks like the most natural choice for captain. He presents well in the media, is a smart cookie and seems to be well respected by teammates and opposition players. And given Walker can't pinch hit in the midfield/ruck it's hard for him to influence games when the supply isn't quite there.
I doubt very much that Tex would still be el capitan if Walsh didn't annoint him. The club are hamstrung in that the optics around Walsh's legacy would be compromised if his man was replaced. His lack of both intelligence and physicality is borderline embarrassing.

"I'll stay if you match the offer I've received from a club in my home state, since what you've offered is much less than that currently"

Probably best to try and be accurate instead of doing your best tex impersonation.

"How dare he leave for 200k a year. He told us when he was 18 he would stay!"
I'm sure you and all Demon supporters were completely supportive of Tom Scully's decision to go to GWS after 2 seasons. ;)

Funny how opinions can change when your club is benefiting.

And yet Walker has being voted the best captain in the AFL for 2 years running.

It's almost as though everything you read in the media is not true and captaincy isn't defined by how well you speak in press interviews.

Maybe tex told the playing group, and Charlie Cameron told people? Maybe lever told his manager and he leaked it. Maybe Brett burton announced it to the club to show how serious they are. Maybe Melbourne are trying to make the crows look bad

Only thing I cared about with Scully was that he lied to a very ill Stynes after he had already made his decision

You're barking up the wrong tree if you think I'm one of those crazy bias supporters. Scully got offered a kings ransom, he would've been a nuffie to turn it down

Cameron Ling was voted sexiest by his peers.........

I said after the prelim we should of gone to Jake and said sign or your not playing in the GF and thanks for your services. All the Crows supporters thought it was the dumbest idea ever. Turns out the captain was saying the same thing.

He's not doing anything revolutionary. Josh Jenkins was offered big bucks to join Brisbane before re-signing, no doubt clubs have line up offers for Sloane every time he is out of contract.

Assuming Adelaide did offer $300k, his manager would've fielded offers from Vic clubs and liaised between Lever and the Crows - which is his job. It's not like they made an offer in Rd 1 then are shocked to be sitting here after the season when someone else made a higher offer. Adelaide are under no obligation to match an offer from anyone. At any point there are players at every club who could earn more elsewhere. I don't begrudge Scott Selwood for taking a FA offer from Geelong or Matt Rosa moving to Gold Coast as both were around the bottom half of our 22. When it's stars people get emotional about it and focus on the money to mask their disappointment.

Where did I say they are obliged? I just said I heard he was upset at being offered 300k

The rest has nothing to do with my post? That was the only time I'd heard he was upset

As I said, Lever's lying is what I dislike about it.

He lied about the reasons for why he hadn't re-signed and he lied about wanting to go home for family reasons.

He should just admit that he got an offer too big to refuse and own it like a big boy instead of pretending it is family.

Dumbing it down to either money OR family is just as stupid.

Mahoney also said ours isn't the biggest offer he's received.

That is for the most part what Crows supporters are upset about, obviously lying to Stynes is worse however.

Leaving clubs now is fine, it bloody stings every time because most supporters get emotionally attached to their clubs players, but we move on. But if you are going to leave, just handle yourself with a bit of integrity.

He has reportedly offloaded all his Crows gear at a dump, I'm cautious to believe those reports but they have the same amount of credibility as the ones claiming Tex has had a hissy fit.

I don't care he lied to the club. Just to Stynes in a vulnerable state. Players lie to clubs at all levels of footy about their intentions.

I guess then we'll have to agree to disagree.

Personally I think honesty and integrity is a big part of professionalism. If people want to say it is a business and all layer movements are "business decisions" then they also need to act professionally. Lying to the people who employ you as well as the fans, who are the reason you have a job in the first place, is unprofessional.

Don't know how many places you've worked but telling your employer you're leaving while still contracted to them is a sure fire way to get destroyed at work...

People constantly lie to employers about seeking other employment. I don't know too many people who go to their boss and tell them they're actively looking to leave before they hand in notice.
