Opinion Why the Adams Bashing?

This is what we're talking about Dave. At no point did he say that our recruiters have no idea. He's said that he wasn't worth Shaw in trade value in his opinion. Please stop paraphrasing peoples' posts in a ridiculously exaggerated and often completely inaccurate fashion.

Well, I think everyone knew that Straight Away Adams would not have same Value as Heater. It would take Adams at least 3 Years Minmium to possibly get close to Heater’s Value

I'd honestly rather Fasolo in the middle instead of Adams, he seems to be relatively clean in close and he has a great kick on him, I think that's what they plan for him but I reckon they want to improve his tank a bit more. I just don't think Adams was worth trading Heath Shaw for, couldn't we have tried to get someone else from that list? From the start it seemed to be Adams or bust, why not try trading Heath Shaw plus pick 10 for pick 2? I just do not rate the kid.
That was my view/comment at the time. We didn't just trade Shaw for him we are paying some of Shaw's salary and Gubby all but gloated about it. We got done over by Gubby.

Thats how trades work. We are getting a ten year player and losing a three year player. Nobody ever expected that in season 2014 Adams would be a better player than Shaw.

Dave does make a good point. I know he is the new guy, but there are plenty of players butchering the ball at the moment. He seems to cop a lot of heat for it compared to others around here.

He is spending time at half back because that's what Bucks did in his development, so to Swan. In fact many coaches like to start young mids there for development purposes. The problem is he really seems like he would just be a lot better on the inside in the middle. I suspect Bucks is finding it hard to take Ball or JT out of there even though they haven't played that well this season.

Absolutely. Its a nice luxury to have somebody learning the ropes across half back when youre winning.

As the season wears on its going to get easier and easier for Buckley to drop the likes of Ball and Blair. The decision might be forced upon him. Relying on the proven experienced players is the easy call. Its harder to tell them to move aside and replace them with 20 year olds who may or may not thrive with added responsibility. This is where Malthouse succeeded in 2010....by bringing the likes of Blair in and moving Lockyer out. Now Bucks has to do the same. Fresh blood at the expense of proven performers.

He's not a 10 year player with that flaw in his game, he's not like Ben Kennedy who burns the ball because he hasn't climatised to the pace yet, Ben is actually an elite kick and time and maturity will make him a better player

Taylor burns the ball because of his kicking action, if it's purely balance and gross motor skills then it never comes good and he simply won't survive at this level no matter how many times he gets his hands on the ball, his worst is soul destroying for a team with momentum

This is the Collingwood board, most had that expectation. Always happens when we trade players.

He'll be fine. Kicking will improve with confidence about where to kick it and what his teammates are doing.

Yes his Kicking is just Floaters and he does turn the ball over.

But he at least has a Crack and tries to get the Ball and getting us the Ball Forward.

Here are the Lists who should be dropped before him for just as bad Kicking and Lack of Effort:

  • Lumumba
  • Toovey
  • Blair
  • Goldsack
  • White
  • Swan

I’d say Swan is injured. Goldsack puts in effort, and chases.

The crux of the issue with Adams is his disposal, I argue it’s not just his kicking. The opposition are aware of it, because they back off him now and let him kick.

Adams has really poor touch when it comes to kicking the ball between 15m-35m, he misses the depth to kick it and they come off on an angle. His full kick is fine, but his touch kicking is terrible, I dunno, every time he got it yesterday you just think "turnover". He can improve it, he will, he'll just cause about 50 more games of pain with it though.

We expected he could use the ball though

Has used it well at times but still very prone to Turnovers at the Moment.

You be sure that is something that should be worked on a lot over the Next Pre-Season

I agree with you on that, but I don’t think he warrants a senior selection. If you can’t kick you can’t play.

Well then Majority of Collingwood Players would not be playing then

When he turned the ball over a half back which resulted in a goal he was watching the ball off his foot instead of watching where Seedsman was running towards. That's a sign of somebody that has no absolutely no confidence in their field kicking, players usually don't watch the ball off their foot when in general play.
Not sure if this is correct. I am not saying your wrong but I think you are. The golden rule of every sport is to keep your eye on the ball. This is not just some used up tired phrase. It is the golden rule and makes a huge difference. I doubt in football you would look where you are kicking it at the moment where the ball hits the foot.

THIS... should be so f@ckin obvious no sh$t Sherlock no brainer to anyone. The game is called FOOTball and the most important skill in the game is KICKING. AFL seniors is not an Auskick clinic for players to learn how to kick. Hawks seem to know this. Adams has potential IF he can become a competent AFL standard kick... he needs to prove this in the VFL NOT seniors.

Well lot of our Players seem they might have to taught by AUSKICK Coaches

Adams will be fine when he tidies his disposal. He was fine by foot at GWS before he was recruited. His confidence has been shot by being played out of position, starting as the sub , but mark my words the kid has talent and will be a terrific replacement for the ageing workhorse Luke Ball in years to come. I would say that more the problem is having Goldsack and Blair as starting forwards contributing nothing to the scoreboard all year so we only have a couple of options in Elliot and Cloke as a result. Reid will certainly help long term and so will Fasolo who knows where the goals are and has X factor about him. White has been a major disappointment and along with Lynch is not the answer. Look at Hawthorn as an example who have at least 4 dangerous forwards and we have been sold a crock about the value of Blair and Goldsack to the team. If you cant hit the scoreboard as a forward at least occasionally then you have no place in an AFL team, especially ours. You need to be able to score not just have 3 tackles and 8 disposals a game.

yeah I think you are always supposed to watch the ball onto your boot at the moment of kicking.. that was always drilled into me back in the day.. no doubt some players are so talented they don't need to though.

I agree.

However I still think there are options above Adams for the back line that can kick, better.

Well Adams is a Inside Mid and Playing him in the Back Line is a Pretty Stupid Idea

so he can only play one role? one position?.. another reason for him to play VFL.. learn to kick.. learn to play multiple positions as is required of a player his size.
