Will Minson MUST go

Watch the Hawthorn game. Gilbee was the only one who was properly kicking out of defence and penetrating Hawthorn's zone. I doubt we would've won if he wasn't playing.

Well spotted. Sure he has been playing below his normal standard but still one of our better players overall so why drop him before others and who would replace him and all the others nominated for the axe????

Eade needs to make a big call at the selection table this weekend and send a strong message to the rest of the playing group, just like Ross Lyon did with Dal Santo a couple of years back. I'm looking at the likes of Hahn, Murphy and Gilbee, just not good enough!

You watch the Hawthorn game and tell me that Minson's 3rd qtr was not one of the main reasons why we got on top.

Agreed, mind you Saturday's performance has made it a little hard to support Will's inclusion in this week's team.

Rather than calling for his head in order to improve our team (I don't believe dropping him and picking Roughead / sticking with 1 ruckman will improve us at all), I suspect that giving Will a run in the 2s will get back his confidence and mongrel. I have seen him play in the 2s (albeit Werribee) quite a few times and he is a dominant force on the field in a way that Roughead has yet to do.

In saying that, I agree with the comments above that our team seems to be lazy and allowing him to kick and try to do the intricate stuff. Hudson rarely does anything more than a handball as he usually has someone running off him. Our lads should afford Minson the same treatment (as most ruckman in the league are)...

Minson has played probably one quarter of good football out of a possiible of 16 quarters.. Thats not consistency and shouldnt be regarded as good enough to hold down your position. You can spin it in as many ways as you can but the reality is that he's out of form and needs to work on that.

The problem to that is that the dogs dont have a third ruckman ready that can pick up the slack, and yes Roughead is a way off yet. So its a catch 22.

Most of our team were terrible in the 2nd half.
But, No more excuses from people here regarding the Soyboy.

Minson must go along with Hill, Hahn, Gia and Moles.

in Roughead, Johnno, Aker, Jones

You blokes must be kidding..
Yes his OOF was terrible, but his apparent missed kick on the HBF when he had one target to kick to (an insipid murphy) in and around 5 BL players because eade decided it would be a good idea to playu with no forward line the second half, come on guys...hes never gonna be pin point with his disposal, name one ruckmen who is?

More importantly, have a look at 5-6 ruck tap outs that were perfectly placed onto cooney, boyd and crosses laps.. The bloke is our best ruckmen without a doubt (tap outs im talking) and gets lynched because he goes and finds the footy unlike huddo and, im admitting, at times gets ambition mixed up with ability..

Simply needs to be told when in open space look for a hand ball option..

Was in our best 8 players against both the pies and hawks and was servicable last night minus his horrific OOF which by no means cost us the game (they had 18 more scoring shots remember)..

Quit all the lynch parties and watch a) the bulldogs game and then b) the willi game and see the minson is still miles ahead of roughead ATM

yes I agree our clearance work was appalling. He won the tap many times to no avail.

but apart from being a great ruckman, minson does some pretty stupid things.

You're preaching to the converted - I actually posted that I think he should get dropped to get back confidence. He is clearly more capable of being in our top 22 and being effective than Roughead at this stage, we may as well give him a run in the 2s.

I don't know what spin there was?

5 outs and 4 ins would leave us with 3 on the bench

Definitely drop Minson, probably Moles, maybe Hill, but Hahn & Gia just need a stern word from the coach.

Would like to see Roughead & Jones debut, but Jones will be given more time at Willy.

We really miss Ward. Wood could do with game time but he's also unavailable :(

I don't actually think it's Will's skills that are holding him back.

In my opinion he's too big... He's carrying to much mass and it is affecting his vertical leap/speed.

You look around at the premier ruckmen in the league and they are considerably leaner... Cox, Ryder, Sandilands (whilst heavy, he is relatively lean, but his height is always going to win the tap out), Natanui, Mcintosh, Jolly.

Aside from the boundary throw-ins where he usually stands his ground, he gets killed all over the park. At marking contests the defenders regularly spoil the ball because he hasn't got the lift required to get up.

Not sure where Will is going with his footy to be honest... See how he goes at Williamstown.

There was alot more to that story than on field performance. Will doesn't screw up off field.

Will is making a couple of shocking mistakes a game and does get me fired up but he has really become a scapegoat this year. He misses an easy goal and gets bashed by coach and supporters alike. Other players miss sitters and no response.*
Will gives away a stupid 50 a week and gets the drop to Willy threat. Hargrave ( one of my favourites) gave away 2 on Saturday - no comment. *

Will is making mistakes putting himself in strings of possessions with running players he shouldn't be part of. This shows he is getting involved in games more but is still no Dean Cox or Luke Darcy.*

Roughead showed good signs in NAB Cup but didn't do much other than ruckwork. He missed goals just like Will and got less possessions than Will gets. I don't think Roughead will add much at this stage but Will may need a week of VFL to get his confidence back. And have a break from the bashing.*
