Collingwood are clearly the biggest losers in this draft, missing out on pick 2.
If anything they have since recovered a bit with shrewd trade dealings, and nobody would have guessed where they would have ended up this season.
But still... would anyone be happy missing out on pick 2? It's pick 2!

And at the moment they again only have a single pick next year so absolutely have to nail it. They dont get the luxury of the 2nd best kid in the country being a Father/Son next year I assume.

Ummmmmmm…….I doubt it particularly when 1. We already offered him a contract, and 2. We would select someone like Callaghan and then get Daicos as well for practically nothing matching a later bid.

You really didn’t think that through did you?
You are very confused. North will pick the player they rate highest. Nobody will give Collingwood a second thought.

They'll still get Daicos though, so I guess in that view it's the same outcome with that pick 2.

They could have had Daicos and that pick 2 this year.
I wonder how many players Hawks would have traded for a Daicos and pick 2 with the players they had tried to move on.

All in all I see what Collingwood tried to do, last season and this. Sometimes you have to play the cards you get dealt.

But they would've had to use it on Daicos anyway so it's a moot point.

The biggest losers were GWS and every other 2022 finalist/pretender who falls short of winning next year's premiership and will forever wonder why they didn't trade in one of Hawthorn's A-graders who were supposedly being shopped around.

Hawthorn doesn't lose anything from all of this. We'll continue to be a struggling team next year in rebuilding mode. 12th or 13th... 16th or 17th... Pfft. It's all the same to me. Our senior leaders will continue to show the way for the kids on our list, which is important, so I'm pretty happy they'll all be back next year.

Remember all the trading which the Hawks did from 2009 to 2013 which helped them win 3 successive flags? Who has done anything like that in recent times? Melbourne did bloody well to bring in May, Lever, Langdon, Brown, Hibberd and Tomlinson. This was a major reason why they dominated in 2021 and won the premiership. They have the deepest list of quality players in the comp. They are a fair way ahead of everyone else.

But aside from the Dees, I look at the lack of activity from the other Top 8 teams and wonder what the hell are they thinking? They must have enormous faith in their current senior players and fringe players. The teenagers which they select in this year's draft are not going to help them win the flag in 2022 or 2023.

I don't think north will bid on Daicos even if pies had pick 2.
I reckon they would've. Making them cough up pick 2 would have a much bigger impact on their drafting than a handful of late picks which are unlikely to amount to anything.

Collingwood would have had a trade lined up with someone like Richmond just in case it did happen

It's taken 4 years for Cerra to become a "Cerra type". To say that they or Carlton will get the same player with pick 6 is wishful thinking. If every club was in the position of Carlton to acquire Cerra for pick 6, they would have done the deal without question. Cerra is a very good player now, with the potential to be a star. Will be sadly missed by Freo.
I think Cerra is fine. Not sure about him being a star. But with where Carlton is at, could a Mitchell in the midfield and a potential young gun at pick 6, with more cap space be a better option for them? I think Mitchell is better than Cerra right now. Maybe will be for the next 2 or 3 years. In that time, they have another top draft pick with 3 years under his belt. And that cap saving could be invaluable to bring another player in next season.

Just another opinion which I think makes sense.

Of course. The fact is no club would allow a free hit at another top 3 pick. Particularly when it had been announced he has signed a deal already.
There would be no risk of North losing JHF.

We wouldn’t have let Mitchell go without some sort of 1st round pick

I'm amazed they've escaped the media wrath to be honest.

I guess our non-existent 'fire sale' was of more interest.

The free agency pool was nothing to write home about this year and we had little flexibility because almost all the older guys were contracted.

Most of them are OOC next year and we will be clearing a heap of cap space to attack a better FA pool then like we did in 2015..this year was always going to be quiet for us.

JHF will lose 10K though and the mantle of No. 1. The latter could be a good thing, although would depend on his personality.

Just in case your missed it (30 September 2021):

I am very confident to state here and now that Horne-Francis will have a better career than Nick Daicos.

Doesn't actually matter who goes number 1 really at this stage, right now Thilthorpe from the Crows showed more promise/potential than JUH on last's form at AFL level, but eventually I am fairly sure Ugle-Hagan will be a better player than him.

Daicos was only ever going to the Pies anyway, and really North have very little to gain by picking him at 1 anyway, especially if they want Horne-Francis to stay beyond 2 years.

If they finish around bottom 3 next season, they pretty much have only their first rounder to play/trade with

Not a solid position to be in.
That is again factually incorrect. 3 x 3rd round selections in addition to our 1st.
And we may well trade our pick 27 for a future 2nd round if a bid for Daicos doesn't come in the first 2.

Do you get your footy info from listening to Adam Cooney?

You're a very funny guy. Or not very smart.
