Review Winners? Losers?

Doubt many will have us as winners due to the low key nature of our trades, but I am very happy with North's dealings.

Hrovat, Williams and Ahern have cost us two picks we wouldn't have used anyway and a swap of 3rd and 4th picks. We go into the draft with 11, 32 and 33, and will have a pick in every round in 2017.

Think Eagles did pretty good

Has to be Hawthorn. Landed both of the big fish we were after and left the club in a very good position for next year's free agency bonanza by moving on some veterans in a way that won overwhelming respect from the football fraternity. Look to have rejuvenated the list in a single draft period despite the system being set up to drag us back to the field.

Saints the big winners in terms of pure value. Not sure if they improved their list in the short term though.

Fremantle is my tip for the best trade period. Followed by Melbourne.

Hawthorn is about the middle. Gave up a lot but got a lot back. Need to judge this one in a few years.

Big losers -

Adelaide and Geelong.

Tigers trade period summary:

In: 2017 1st round, Pick 27, pick 56, 2017 3rd round, Prestia, Caddy, Nankervis
Out: Pick 6, 2017 2nd round, Pick 46, Pick 64, Deledio, Tyrone

I reckon that is a pretty solid trade period.

Freo, Saints, Melbourne and Richmond are the biggest winners
Port, Geelong the biggest losers. Collingwood could be seen as a fail too.

Winners:

Fremantle have done well here.

St Kilda have added some polish and really strengthened their draft hand going forward.

Richmond. Surprisingly so. Have really added some quality, whilst maintaining a reasonable draft presence.

GWS. Manipulated their draft position really well, and have added quality to it's best 22.

Carlton. Got it's target players, survived a raid and still maintain a strong draft position.

Not bad:

Essendon. KPF for peanuts and got the deal for Hibberd they wanted.

Melbourne. Lots of talent in, but not too sure about the draft sacrifice.

Losers:

Hawthorn. Shocking decision making. Paid way too much for a wantaway player and significantly damaged the ability to bring in quality youth.

Gold Coast. Embarrassing really. A Chairman should not be commenting on list management decisions.

Adelaide. A failed raid, and lost Lyons for what should be considered unders.

No Geelong, Jade? Their trade period was pretty bad imo.

Can't be considered losers. Regardless of Coch's comments, they really made bank. 4/6/8/10 + plus Hanley, Witts and Lyons. Big winners.

I'm torn on Port's trade period.

We did 1 of the 2 things we wanted. Getting into this draft was obviously target. 4 picks within the top 31 which is a strong hand to have in what looks like a deep draft.

On the other side we didn't clear Lobbe, Hartlett, Ah Chee or O'Shea off our list which hurts us in the long one. Really the only one I'm upset they couldn't move on is Lobbe given Trengove moving into the ruck with Ryder.

I think we drew level this year. Not disappointed with the trade period but not overly stoked either.

Still room for 2 delisted free agents if they desire so a KPF would be nice to help Dixon and Westhoff

How we went really depends on whether you rate Smedts, Caddy, Vardy, Kersten.

Some might say we got rid of hacks, some might say we lost young talent.

Caddy a BIG loss, Kersten will hurt, but Smedts and Vardy aren't worht much in my opinion.

Time will tell but we added Lewis and Hibberd for pick 29 essentially and then traded in Pat McKenna and 51 from GWS for 57 and 59 and
He was a former pick 23 that we actually traded to GWS in 2014 for Sam Frost and 2 picks used to get Oscar Mcdonald and Alex Neal Bullen
So we essentially got 5 players for picks 57 and 59
