He didnt say it directly. He implied it by saying that a) he loves Melbourne (the city that is) and b) he's considering not nominating for the draft this year.

In the article it said had him quoted as saying that school would be a priority for next year and that he wanted to stay in Melbourne to finish year 12.

I'm going to try and find that article a little later.

There is a further subplot involving Watts, who has given up an Australian Institute of Sport's basketball scholarship to pursue a football career; namely that Watts, a year 11 student, will remain in Victoria next year regardless of who drafts him. He is committed to finishing VCE at Brighton Grammar, and would stay in Melbourne in the event that the Eagles or Dockers selected him.

No big deal IMO

Take the best available player - if that is the key forward then so be it.

Last thing we need to do when rebuilding is to start drafting for need over best avilable talent (especally when the best available is a key forward)

In a possible blow to clubs looking for a young key forward, Watts said he wanted to concentrate on his Year 12 studies next year, and felt completing his schooling while finding his feet at an interstate club would be difficult.

Watts, 17, only recently chose football over basketball as a future career path, but said he "loved" living at home in Melbourne and was no certainty to nominate this year.

"I really haven't thought about it the draft or where I'm going, I haven't even decided whether I'm nominating or not yet," he said.

"Obviously school is a massive (consideration).

"If you happened to get picked up by an interstate team and you're still doing year 12, it can cause a few problems, so that's a big concern of mine. That's about as far as I've thought about it really."
