I agree, but at least one person has called it a road already.
I love English pitches they give balance and the Duke ball is a mile better

That was exactly in my thoughts as well. And the pitch, don’t forget to complain about the pitch.
Yeah, always preferred bowling with it, leaves some nasty fonts in your bay though.I love English pitches they give balance and the Duke ball is a mile better
Cummins said he'd have bowled first too so I'd say he wouldn't have been that surprised.I'm not sure Cummins could believe he was batting first after losing the toss, while condtions were tempting gee bowling first in a one off test final was a huge gamble - that obviously failed.

It started in the 90's
Mark Wood is going to be bouncing him targeting his body. He hasn't looked comfortable with it
I don't wanna be a Debbie Downer but Trav needs to work out how he plays the short ball before the Ashes.
Perhaps just go the S. Waugh method and don't play at it, England will be all over it.
I mean it was only the 5th time he's lost the toss as Test captain and 2 of those were at Rawalpindi and Galle where everyone would have obviously wanted to bat first. The other two were during the last Ashes and going off the Cricinfo commentary at Brisbane he said he'd have batted (England chose to bat) but didn't really mind bowling first and at Hobart he said he'd have bowled which England also did on a greentop but again said he didn't mind losing the toss as he was 50/50.He always says that, though.
I don't think he really means it; he's just trying to show solidarity with a fellow sportsman.
Came here for the comments still potting Trav after he proved everyone wrong yet again.I don't wanna be a Debbie Downer but Trav needs to work out how he plays the short ball before the Ashes.

You think that's what I'm doing? Batsmen are always working on technical aspects of their game.Came here for the comments still potting Trav after he proved everyone wrong yet again.

Mind you, irrespective of the state of play, over rates are pathetic and something that really needs to be addressed by cricket authorities. It's getting worse. 23 overs for the entire 1st session should not be tolerated.Good days play and you can guarantee they turn to over rates or the pitch.
think if any opposition captain is stupid enough to bowl first, you say you would have as well. Want him to think he made a good decision and encourage him to do it again in the future.Cummins said he'd have bowled first too so I'd say he wouldn't have been that surprised.
Compared to what they played in in India…Mind you, irrespective of the state of play, over rates are pathetic and something that really needs to be addressed by cricket authorities. It's getting worse. 23 overs for the entire 1st session should not be tolerated.
As for the pitch, having not seen it myself, I was sucked in by both captains saying they would bowl first, and further sucked in by India leaving out their best bowler. It's a growing trend in Test cricket that I'm not liking, they see a little bit of green and get all excited.
Opposition teams often go with 5-6 in the deep after a while anyway while someone like Head or Brook is batting well. But that just makes it easy for them to farm singlesThat’s a good point. The Travball/Bazball style almost abuses the traditional test placements square peg round hole type stuff.
I think if they had a match fit Bumrah in the team, maybe I could understand to a degree, but you wouldn't say that Indian pace quartet was really all that menacing. Shami and Siraj bowled some useful seeds in their early spells, but Yadav in particular bowled rubbish.Compared to what they played in in India…
No arguments here - you know what you are going to get at The Oval - the fact that Tests are usually played at the back end of the season is a deadset furphy. The hype over the grass clearly sucked them all inI think if they had a match fit Bumrah in the team, maybe I could understand to a degree, but you wouldn't say that Indian pace quartet was really all that menacing. Surrey are clearly the best team in the ChampionshipThe side that batted first has lost all three County games at The Oval this year.
On 13 April, Hampshire won the toss and batted, and were 6/114, before recovering to 254. Surrey ended up chasing 247 in the fourth inning, with the loss of just one wicket
On 11 May, Surrey won the toss and bowled. They had Middlesex all out for 209 in 67 overs, and Surrey ended up winning by 9 wickets.
On 18 May, Surrey again won the toss and bowled. They had Kent at 7/118 before an 80-run 10th wicket partnership got them 278. Still, they were all out on day 1. Surrey pissed it in, winning by 10 wickets, having to chase only 58 for victory.
And last night, at 3/76 just after lunch, bowling first didn’t look like such a bad idea. I think the decision to bowl was fine, they just bowled worse than they should have, and we took advantage.
Also can't create a backfire on you, if you say you were always gonna bat and then get rolled for 80 then you look like a dunceYep when im captain and lose the toss, ill always agree with the winning toss captains decision. puts doubts in their minds as to whether im genuine or not.
Quite like punter, gives good analysis.Hayden
